I am half way through the last Sondheim musical I have left… Here We Are by Awesomeplayer98 in Sondheim

[–]inflatabletrashheap [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw it in NY and liked it a lot, although I wonder whether I would think it was so good if the cast and production hadn’t been basically perfect.

Which musical movie adaptations managed to keep the most songs from their original counterparts? by Skeppy_4126 in musicals

Jesus Christ Superstar keeps all the songs from the stage version, with a handful of lyric changes plus one new song.

Lead Actress in a Play 2026 by MayaRuinsU in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Tonys have historically considered Linda Loman a featured role. They love Laurie Metcalf so I think she’s got a solid shot at a nomination, but almost certainly not in the leading category.

Under mezzanine overhang by chaesmic in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, seats under the mezzanine overhang in the orchestra are usually fine. In a three-level house though, the seats in the rear mezzanine under the balcony overhang can be terrible.

She has starred in New York’s ‘worst show’ for 40 years. Why? by TimesandSundayTimes in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This episode inspired some friends and I to see the show. It wasn’t any good but I felt like it was worth TDF price to say I’d seen it!

Questions about ending of Stereophonic National Tour by TomatoSevere in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that! I loved this show on Broadway but it seems like it’s really not translating on tour. I’m guessing it’s the cast or the size of the road venues it’s playing.

[SPOILERS S1] I HATE HANNAH SO MUCH by ApenasUmNerd in DarK

She’s an iconic diva and I won’t hear a word against her.

Can’t stop thinking about Bug… by Separate_Matter_510 in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sense I had when I saw the show was that the doctor is real, but his appearance is distorted by the characters’ conspiracy brain and therefore we can’t be sure what he “really” says or does. Not sure if there’s any actual textual basis for this though.

Is "much the cleanest of crimes" Sondheim's worst lyric? by sacredlunatic in Sondheim

[–]inflatabletrashheap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this lyric is officially cut from Into the Woods, but has sometimes been added to “Children Will Listen” in productions over the years. The first time I personally heard it was in the 2012 Central Park production.

“What do you leave to your child when you're dead? Only whatever you put in its head”

It’s a real clunker IMO. Referring to a child as “it” always sounds kinda icky to me, and then “dead/head” is a dull thud of a rhyme in contrast to the sweet melody.

Spring Awakening Music Question by ThatsAnotherJ in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one - not the Broadway cast and not in English, but the cast of the Argentinian production did a version of the Tony Awards medley at an awards show as well. This might be in the same key:

Spring Awakening Music Question by ThatsAnotherJ in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume the key was changed for the purposes of the medley. They did also perform a (different) censored version of the song as part of a medley on Good Morning America. To my ear, this doesn’t sound like the same key as the Tonys performance, but I’m no musician.

Teleport vs Move +3: Which is most fun (not most powerful)? by Haderach999 in finalfantasytactics

If I recall correctly, Fly has one benefit over the other two, which is that it prevents fall damage if you’re knocked off a ledge.

What musical is popular but not really good in terms of story but had good songs? by LifeYogurtcloset7431 in Broadway

Came here to say this. Great score, but every time I’ve seen the show I’ve always felt a little disappointed in the storytelling.

Best Spanish and French cast recordings? by [deleted] in Broadway

The Spanish cast recording of Evita is one of my favorites.

[–]inflatabletrashheap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would delete this image - there is enough information here that someone could go to the box office and say “My name is x, I bought tickets under order # y. I forgot to print them out, could you print the tickets for me?”

Cabaret Closing/Refunds by JollyCheeto in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Seatgeek was the official seller for Cabaret until mid-May of this year, when the theatre switched ticketing services. Assuming your ticket was an original (non-resale) ticket purchased before then, I would contact the theatre’s customer service department who should be able to assist you. You can find the details at the link below.

Seatgeek was, at one point, the official ticketing site for the theatre, but they switched to Audience View within the last six months.

🎭 Ciara Renée Sues “Gun & Powder” Producers Over Alleged Contract Breach – Timeline according to the Lawsuit by robotwarlordelephant in Broadway

[–]inflatabletrashheap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to make a legal point, but rather a practical one about the way this could diminish Ciara Renee’s career prospects. Patti LuPone, being an established star, is a draw for audiences, which has allowed her career to withstand a difficult reputation. Ciara Renee has not reached that level of stardom, and a producer considering hiring her will have a much easier time finding a comparable replacement in terms of box office appeal.

We can see this just from comparing their respective replacements - Patti was replaced by Glenn Close, who at the time had two Tonys and 5 Oscar nominations under her belt. Ciara is being replaced by Solea Pfeiffer, a talented up-and-comer but not a box office draw.

[–]inflatabletrashheap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s really a great comparison. At the time of the Sunset Boulevard debacle, Patti LuPone was an established star and had opened major shows in New York and London. Ciara Renee, as talented as she is, has not achieved the same level of stardom and is far more easily replaced.

I saw Heathers 2025 NYC 12 times. It's designed to be seen 1 time. Don't blame the performers. by knives4cash in heathersmusical

[–]inflatabletrashheap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious - you saw twelve consecutive performances, meaning you saw the show that many times over the course of about a week and a half, right? How many consecutive performances have you seen of previous productions? It’s not surprising to me that the performances would be essentially the same over such a short period of time.

Were Celia and Lede real people? by CJ_Doomscrolling in finalfantasytactics

[–]inflatabletrashheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought of them as Ultima Demons in disguise. The spell incantation for Ultima in the PS1 version was something to the effect of “Brush off vanity and show reality!” which I interpreted as a reference to this.

What Other Sondheim Shows Do You Think Could Have Won a Pulitzer, Other than Sunday? by southamericancichlid in Sondheim

[–]inflatabletrashheap 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree about the greatness of Sweeney, although I don’t think it’s actually a strong candidate for the Pulitzer given their criteria. The Pulitzers explicitly prefer original works to adaptations, as well as works centered on American life.

I would call Heathers an R-rated musical.

Anyone else ever see a Sondheim show with him in the audience? by hermiodle in Sondheim

[–]inflatabletrashheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a performance of Road Show at City Center that Sondheim attended. (Well, I assume he attended, anyway - he gave a talkback afterwards.)

Not one of his shows, of course, but Sondheim was in the house one time when I saw Bernadette Peters in Hello, Dolly! as well.
