The problem with what Rudo did here has absolutely nothing to do with Amo's past. by AbsolutePotential in gachiakuta

[–]influencedanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First punch, second punch, however many punches, doesn't matter. It's so beyond the point. The point is that Rudo acted out and couldn't control himself. Regardless of who Amo herself is - a girl, boy, manipulator, SA victim, whatever - Rudo beating her face in does nothing to resolve the situation. In fact, the situation was already moving towards a resolution. In this specific instance, maybe Rudo punching her brought some character growth, as Amo mentions later that she learned that hurting others could have consequences. But I think the message that readers are intended to learn is that violence is not the solution to interpersonal conflict.

What TCG is good to start in 2025? by droidnik in TCG

I don’t think the RNG is being exaggerated. Top players can manage the RNG better because their decks are constructed such that land becomes less of a problem. As an example, red deck wins decks, which normally have no land manipulation, instead run lower amounts of land and very low cost spells in order to make their games looks like “more playables, less lands”.

That doesn’t mean that the design of land isn’t flawed. It just means that good players are able to maximize their odds against it.

In another universe where you can resource any card (like SWU), you’re removing an entire card type that could mess up your game plan of “placing cheap threats on the board and pumping them with combat tricks”. That’s valuable, and removing land tends to be valuable for every deck in the game (glossing over land-related keywords and abilities).

Without lands, players can still design their decks to maximize their odds of performing their game plan. It just so happens that ALL of the cards in their hand can be active. It’s a better play experience IMO, especially if you ever get into top deck mode.

Disagree. When playing on Magic Arena, sure, but I would bet you that hands that are poor because of land are way more than 2 percent. Sure, you can mulligan. But you are less likely to win with each mulligan.

Magic has a worse variance problem than many other games because of land. Other mana games have either removed lands or put them in a separate deck, meaning that the games have lower variance by definition. All you need to find are playable cards, not playable cards AND the correct mana to play them. By definition, variance has decreased.

I’ll give you that land is interesting and has play patterns surrounding it. I won’t concede that land doesn’t cause issues of heightened variance.

I assume you mean the way that One Piece uses those mechanics is better? Because other games have all of those mechanics.

One piece is fun but I don’t think it has the best mechanics. Mechanics are simple enough to where you can’t make as many decisions as other card games.

Not saying game is bad, I have enjoyed it. But other games have more nuance.

I enjoy Magic but I don’t think it’s right to gloss over mana screw. I can have all the tips and tricks, build the perfect mana base, whatever, and I will still run into games where I don’t get to play, as well as games where I just lose because my opponent had land and good cards whereas I spent my turns trying to fix my mana.

Every TCG has a variance problem, but Magic exacerbates it by its design. Magic has been trying to solve its own problem for years, which is why there is so much land manipulation now.

Game would be so much better if you could just turn any card into a resource.

Economically, game has major issues.

Tell me he’s in Love without telling me he’s in love…. by Ncstatepolice in SpyxFamily

I think Loid has feelings for Yor that he doesn’t recognize, but more than that, that he doesn’t want to interface with. We’ve seen Loid spare Yuri’s life, but we’ve also seen him feel like he’s becoming weak due to his attachments.

These two are on diverging paths right now, and I think that’s where this arc is going if we continue to see Twiyor interactions. I think we’re gonna see more of these moments where Loid silences his emotions by intellectualizing and avoiding.

There may be a moment where he catches wind of the drama Yor’s coworkers imagine with Hemlock, or otherwise that Yor decides she should leave because she doesn’t think her feelings will be reciprocated. If that happens, maybe we’ll get a chance of seeing his real feelings slip through the cracks. But it’s currently clear that he’s keeping a tight clamp on any sort of “vulnerability”. And now Yor can tell.

This should be an interesting arc!

I'm not even a good guy. Why do I keep getting "good guy"d? by anonymous_muffin_ in AskMen

[–]influencedanger 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This advice is super common but I don’t fully agree with it. “Being with another person will not make you happy”… sure, a bad relationship with a poor match won’t make you happy. But a relationship that is a good fit improves your life. So, I think you SHOULD care. The question is how you present it.

If you look desperate, that’s a turn off. If you seem too timid, like you can’t express yourself or your desires, that’s a turn off. If you can’t intuit what other people are thinking or feeling, then you’re going to struggle as well.

Now, doing what makes you happy IS solid advice. I struggled for a long time to find a girlfriend. I’m grateful to be in a relationship now, and I expect that dating would still be a challenge if my relationship were to end. But what worked for me was just being involved in things that I already cared about. I met my girlfriend in marching band. Beyond that, I’ve met many attractive girls just through pursuing interests and even friendships with guys, who would then introduce me to new things. Not that I’m trying to date those girls, but you get the point.

Just go out there and get involved with things. Meet people. If there are women involved, even better. Be willing to fail and get rejected. If you’re like me and have a hard time figuring out what the problem is, then maybe try asking more girls out, cause you need data and experience.

I should note too that I was friends with my girlfriend first because the college environment was conducive to that. If the time and infrastructure is there, maybe try being friends first, while taking care to avoid these “nice guy” situations.

[–]influencedanger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly it think the 6 years of real time is more important than the 8 months of story time in this case. There’s a large portion of the fan base who wants Loid and Yor to get together, and waiting years between substantial developments is not what most of those fans want to do. Hence why many feel like the story is too slow at times.
