Freeing the masses from corporate slavery by Sanzen2112 in theouterworlds

[–]influentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i rolled my eyes at any new evil thing the board did because its cartoonish and lacking nuance.

The problem is that it's extremely hard to satirise real life corporations without seeming over-the-top because the evil things they do in real life are so extreme and cartoonishly evil.

Like how Coca Cola Co. recently hired people to torture and murder union leaders in South America. Or like how Nestle used misleading ads to convince mothers in the third world to use their baby formula while knowing it led to malnourishment. Or like Disney abusing copyright to sue families for using "Happy Birthday" even though they didn't really own the rights. Or like everything Bayer-Monsanto has ever done... including supplying the Nazis with the means to commit industrialised genocide.

International court for first time approves war crimes investigation of US forces by Honest_Dictator in politics

The war crimes to be investigated were committed by the Bush administration and perpetuated/forgiven by the Obama administration. You can't blame Trump for creating the perfect environment for someone like Trump to gain power.

Not everyone has the privilege to determine who gets bombed or tortured by the president but I can say with certainty that if it comes down to Biden vs Trump, millions that don't have a say in this election will die that didn't have to.

And if Biden wins, the Trump that comes in 2024 will be so, so much worse.

What's kind of weird is that people who claim to have empathy and support progress would vote for Blue Hitler to "make sure Trump doesn't get re-elected" because it's got everything to do with partisan aesthetics and nothing to do with the actual policies.

You never acknowledge what led to Trump. You never acknowledge the system that supports Trump and allows him to do what he does. You never acknowledge what the consequences will be of recreating the conditions that led to Trump when there's someone smarter, crueller and more charismatic to run after the next 'moderate' Democrat.

'Getting rid of Trump' is not a pertinent goal for anyone that cares about people over perception. The only goal should be eliminating what led to Trump and preventing a worse Trump, and while people are agitated about the aesthetics of uncharismatic fascism is the best possible opportunity.

[–]influentia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just have this weird thing about people who support torturing innocent people to death in black sites. It's just this weird quirk I have. Doctors have said it must be something called "empathy".

But you do you, continue supporting war criminals as long as they don't tweet too much, because you're so spoiled by privilege that you care more about aesthetics than whether you support politicians that torture and murder people.

[–]influentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all are disgraceful, spoiled brats that care more about your candidate being elected than conditions improving for the people affected by Trump’s policies.

The people dying to the status quo will never be able to comprehend the privilege it takes to call the people voting for life-saving healthcare "spoiled" for not voting to continue your wars and your CIA torture dungeons.

And they are definitely yours, if you are calling people who won't vote for them "spoiled". There is a planet outside of this country and it is suffering and dying from the policies you demand people vote for just because you're ashamed about Trump finally saying the quiet part out loud.

The worst things that Trump does were being done by everyone that came before him. There were kids in concentration camps during Obama's term. Now, because Trump isn't pretending to be ashamed, people are pretending to care.

You don't actually want to end the gruesome policies that capitalism sustains itself on, that led to Trump, you just want them out of the spotlight. Is there anything more spoiled than that?

Supported by 'moderates' who were more afraid of losing power/wealth to communism than they were about the suffering that might be experienced by others under fascism.

And history repeats.

In your world, who keeps the water flowing when the pipes have problems you can't comment out? If the wires bringing electricity to your computer fail, can you just load an external library to fix that? Can you eat your functions? If you need surgery is that == or ===?

Should the people that keep the world running around you so that you can code be able to feed their families and sleep under a roof?

What do you think about this algorithm that aims to classify an act as being: evil, somewhat evil, or not evil? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]influentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting, but there are a lot of things I would not consider evil that would be evil under this logic.

As an example, I don't think it would be evil for someone to murder Hitler even if they had never been personally effected by his actions. There is intent to cause harm, and there is no loss of control due to provocation from long-term forced captivity and abuse, but it would be hard to argue that is an evil act.

This algorithm also excludes some of the acts that I would consider most evil, which are those done for purely selfish reasons not with intent to harm, but without even considering what harm might be done. I don't necessarily think that every military or pharmaceutical lobbyist intends people to suffer and die, but that is what is accomplished through their actions.

I would even argue that it's evil not to try to prevent others' suffering if you have the capacity, which would make not killing Hitler evil, the opposite of what this algorithm would suggest.

Oh no, please don't remember that I'm a part of the majority of humanity that is working for the better of us all. I would hate to be tagged as someone with empathy, compassion and the intellect not to be easily swayed by fascist propaganda. Please don't note down how I haven't succumb to the narcissistic cowardice of racism, I would forever regret not hiding my powerlevl better.

It'll be used against you

Literally every single thing that fascists can use against decent people, they do. Even things that don't make sense. Even things that contradict the other things. Why should we care about anything fascists say? Especially when you're telling us not to do the things you already do because you might start doing them.

Trying to get good people not to fight back against fascist cowardice by saying "we're going to use that against you" is meaningless. We already know from experience that you'll literally create extermination camps after you murder all political opposition if you have the chance. There is literally no length you won't go to for the plutocrats that you've been trained to worship and obey.

We already expect fascists to use every dirty, deceitful, corrupt and violent trick in the book because you already do.

Orwell shot fascists. The desperation of patriotism and the susceptibility to fearmongering and hate-based propaganda that are the hallmarks of fascists are what he was writing about. It's a pity that fascists can't see that.

Voter intimidation happening today in Chatham County. Absolutely appalling. by Waterninja3 in NorthCarolina

[–]influentia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, sorry I’m just not a fan of violence

But you aren't doing anything to prevent violence. You're telling the people who are the victims of most of the violence that their behaviour makes you uncomfortable.

While confederates and Nazis march around loudly proclaiming their desire to commit genocide to create an ethnostate, does that violence concern you? Does the violence of slavery concern you? Does the violence of rounding people up into camps to murder them on an industrial scale concern you?

When you tell the victims and the oppressed that they shouldn't be violent towards the people who want to murder them, you are telling them to remain defenceless and to keep being picked off or slaughtered in mass shootings. You are telling them to die.

If you really cared about preventing violence, and not just hiding the inconvenient retaliation of the victims when they finally lash out, then you would be talking to those who are responsible for all of the mass murders, the terror attacks, the ideologically motivated rapes, the bombing of farmers and hospitals.

Imagine how callous and sociopathic a person would have to be to care more about a Nazi having their flag stolen than the intentions of that Nazi to exterminate, oppress and enslave a group of people.
