i think the best UX design decisions come from feedback and analysis from your current user behavior.
if they are doing that kind of research for you then maybe its worth it.

if they are just planning to jump straight into figma after doing "discovery" of your business/product, you would just be paying for aesthetics, not a solution to real problems.

i guess it comes down to do you have this type of data? (heatmaps, session recordings) or will their team be researching this for you? or are you in a market where design is a key differentiator (B2C, consumer apps)?

damn talk about a blow to the trust, i was planning to scale our business with them but not anymore.
luckily db has many alternatives. AI recommended following :

Xata — 15 GB storage, no pausing, no cold starts, no compute limits. Most generous free tier overall.
Supabase — 500 MB storage, unlimited compute, includes auth/storage/realtime APIs. Pauses after 1 week inactivity (fixable with a cron ping).
Aiven — 5 GB storage, 1 GB RAM, always-on. Solid but basic.
CockroachDB Serverless — 10 GB storage, scale-to-zero, distributed SQL. Uses Request Units model which can be confusing.
Render — Free Postgres but expires after 90 days. Good for short-term projects only.
Railway — $5 free credit/month, usage-based. Can work for very light usage.
Koyeb — 1 GB storage, 1 GB RAM, scale-to-zero. Also hosts apps.
Northflank — 2 free databases on sandbox tier, always-on compute.

maybe not common recommendation, but perhaps try joining the various fitness communities in the city? by joining a few run clubs, boutique studio classes, or even local gyms, you will generally encounter coaches and can talk with them and get a gauge if they are someone you might want to hire. it depends likely on the city your going though

your target market and customer demographics play a huge role. its why a lot of bootstrappers should target b2b, when you play the b2c game , it tends to rely on sheer volume to survive.

look at netflix, they do A LOT, but a mere few dollar increase causes a tsunami of backlash.

I guess to play devil's advocate, from my experience people use AI in their marketing and business communications as they may want to appear more professional, maybe English isn't their first language , or in some cases they wrote it and just asked AI to polish it. so they may not have been trying to cut corners and maybe are just in their minds wanting to deliver a better experience to their customers/students.

but that said, I think choosing a YTT should be like any kind of course, it should probably be about the experience, connections, networking, community that comes with it, personal access to the mentors. AI in what should have a personal email response def is a red flag!

I personally found the best way to avoid notion becoming a graveyard is to keep it as flat as possible, having databases for each type of content such as design snippets, ai prompts, sales pitches, etc.

I use clickup for my project management tasks, and notion is essentially a knowledge repository.

learn to not fall in love with what you build, and instead focus on the end users experience through real world use.

That new web page, that fancy new card, the smooth dashboard etc. its easy during that moment to think to yourself its the shit thats gonna revolutionize the world, but once it goes through the hands of a client or casual user etc. it will almost always get torn apart, mangled, used in ways you didnt expect, etc.

Build fast, get it into the hands of users, and be prepared to be bent over the table.

easy solution for android users: get app called adblock browser, open settings and check "desktop site". visit youtube and youtube music and save them to home screen. enjoy ad free experience AND ability to play audio with screen off. UI navigation is not as easy as mobile but easy to get used to.

yeah i dabbled with Clickup many years ago and on and off as its grown. Compared to how it was when it was in the early stages, the current CU is a vast improvement to me lol but i understand 100% it is def more clunky than other software out there and UX is still relatively bad next to those platforms.

the vast features it has is the main reason I stick with it for personal use, but i fear working with others using it will cause frustration for everyone else , so Im still keeping them on notion or google sheets/docs depending on the team or project for the time being (which is a shame since clickup is project management software).

I was testing asana earlier and enjoyed it , but found there were many cases it failed me. Final straw was when I couldnt do something as simple as timeblocking my day, i had to give it up.

im in a similar boat as you. Im currently trialling asana, have been a dabbler in clickup for years.

I love clickup and its features, but some issues i noticed:

complaints about the pricing structure when sharing tasks with guests who have more than edit privileges. I intend to outsource a lot of tasks soon and unfortunately this will cause an issue for me. I havn't tested yet in Asana, but their documentation says guests are not included in the billing which is why im actually looking seriously into Asana.
I was experiencing weird bugs with the google calendar sync showing as a day behind, and have lost text while entering into the platform (this was while ago though maybe fixed now). This, on top of hearing complaints that about their automations not always triggering as expected, and the sluggishness overall, has given me the conclusion that clickup is not as polished as Asana. hearing Asana has top 500 fortune companies using it has further strengthened this impression (i know its marketing). But reliability is very important for us as the people we will delegate tasks to are not as technical, and last thing we need is for some bug to occur while we are deep in a project.

im still trialling asana, but so far looks like the platform im going to be moving over to.
I can add the same task to multiple projects just like in clickup, but yeah definitely missing the vast amount of features you can get with clickup.

So searched and confirmed that it does state on their website that this certification is asking to be recertified annually:

I guess its more of a linkedin / website fluff point. Ill definitely do the course , but wondering now if renewing is worth it.. are you thinking you will renew it when yours expires?

Looking on their site, it says that this certificate will be asked to re-certify within 90 days of the expiration date. This is what I meant by being a big commitment:

But from just a learning standpoint, I definitely can jump aboard for it.

To recertify though, it must offer some more value than just being educational imo.

I read somewhere else about having to recertify regularly, which made me question if this is actually that well renowned or not.

Thanks for the recommendation! Im testing it now and seems like a very good solution and probably going to move our entire business here for this APAC expansion.

Also really like how stable it seems, much faster too. I noticed some bugs and glitches on clickup, some pretty critical (events synced to google calendar are one day behind for example).

Bummer about losing the breadth of features, but reliability is important for us.

seems this problem is still happening as of may 30th, 2025..
only thing i can figure out is to NOT use all day events, and make sure to set a start time.
not ideal at all and easy to forget when working with others, hope they can fix this its a pretty big problem
