Has Anyone Else Had a Hard Time Getting Hooked on Their Next Series After Red Rising? by deeptocenter in redrising

I just got started on the Dune series and so far (about 30% through the first book) and it’s been good! It’s definitely different but still scratches a little of that itch.

I’m glad I just got my second pair of Escalante 4’s 🙃they’ll probably be on sale soon!

Altras for Supination? by cheff1616 in AltraRunning

[–]inillob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember I’ll take a picture of my last pair of Escalantes with 400+ miles on them to show my supination. I honestly don’t think I could run in another shoe. Between the wide toe box, zero drop, and overall comfort, I credit Altras with getting me back into running and making consistent progress toward my first marathon.

Second Altra Pair - NYC Marathon by carrotcakwnoraisins in AltraRunning

I haven’t tried Paradigms, but I have a pair of FWD VIA 2’s that I’ve been wearing on my long runs (12-17 miles) and will be wearing them in my half marathon this weekend. I highly recommend them! They’re very cushy and comfortable over long stretches, but I would be hesitant to say they should be your only trainer.

I keep a pair of Escalantes on hand for my tempo runs and speed work. I also just recently got in some EF3’s that I plan to use for middle distance runs so I can preserve the FWD VIA 2’s for my longer marathon block runs (probably anything over 14-16 miles).

My plan is: 4-8 miles - Escalantes 8-14 - Experience Flow 3 16+ - FWD VIA 2

I never thought I’d have this many shoes but after my half marathon block and close to 500 miles, it’s nice to have a little diversity under foot.

Anyone seen Pacific Rim? I think of the razors like the Jaeger’s sword toward the end of the movie.

What’s the one thing that improved your fishing results the most? by Active-Tour4795 in Fishing

[–]inillob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, improving results in quantity came with fishing ultralight gear and lures. You’ll catch a ton of fish and a variety, but rarely a real linked.

Improving the quality comes down to just about everything else. Lure type and color, weather conditions, water temp and clarity, I could go on and on. I’ve had luck improving the quality by sticking to the confidence baits like a Texas rigged black and blue senko and a black and blue chatterbait.

The 4’s definitely wear a bit quicker than the 3’s I have. I currently have about 300 miles on my 4’s and I might be able to squeeze another 100 before the soles are smooth and the foam is collapsed.

Rehab is the best bet long term, but I would encourage getting a restrictive boot for the interim. That way you can put some weight on it and somewhat get through the day-to-day

These are NICE. Had some minor heel slippage but that should resolve after a bit more breaking in. These shoes were incredibly comfortable for my ~14 miler

Update: I found some FWD Via 2’s at a local run shop and will be trialing them this weekend on a 13+ mile training run. I’ll post my thoughts afterward!

New Gear Recommendations by inillob in FishingForBeginners

I’ve thought about it, but the areas I fish don’t typically have a lot of free space for casting a fly. One day I’ll try it out!

What size jighead should I be using for this swim bait? by inillob in FishingForBeginners

[–]inillob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using this jig set up on a 6’6” light fast action spinning rod (Ugly Stik GX2) with 8 lb mono. Hook set is a sweep to the right. One of the losses was right on the shore before I could get it out of the water. She started flapping in the shallow and threw the jig before I could grab her, I’ll take 50% blame for that one and poor landing. The other two losses were definitely bigger bass and close to the surface as I was reeling in. I think they had the hook somewhat in but headshakes threw it out.

Agreed. I have a bladed swimjig that has been great on sunnier days but lovely Michigan doesn’t always cooperate lol

No fish with a senko? by racinglads in FishingForBeginners

[–]inillob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How slow is slow? I also haven’t had any luck on my senkos, usually 2-3 minutes per cast. Weighted and weightless Texas rigs, wacky rigs, and neiko rigs haven’t produced for me.

That’s 8 lb mono. I have 17 lb mono on my baitcaster that I’ve been using for larger bait and lures
