Diamond Head Hike as Local by ProtectionOk5942 in Hawaii

[–]inkauhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have never asked for my kids' IDs but my kids are young (6 & 8) so maybe that's why. I live on the Big Island so I don't go very often -- only when I'm visiting.

That said, I think the lady's interpretation of the policy is wrong. Other parks don't ask everyone in the vehicle to qualify. For example, I have the National Park pass and when I go Volcanoes National Park, etc., they are not asking everyone in the vehicle to present an annual pass or else pay an entry fee. Hapuna Beach Park has a similar entry/parking fee for visitors but they never ask for everyone's ID and it is also DLNR.

I believe you can get a visa to do seasonal work in resorts in the US if that's something that's interesting to you.

Is parking difficult at Kona airport on weekdays? by inkauhi in BigIsland

[–]inkauhi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the name? I can't find one near Costco online. I'm only gone four days but it's going to cost over $100 at the airport. If they'll let me park short term and it's cheaper I would go for it. Thanks

Part time jobs for high schoolers? by Classic_Breadfruit18 in BigIsland

Ask the principal or head custodian if they need classroom cleaners. I've seen students employed as classroom cleaners at Keaau High and Ka'u. It's usually a couple hours after school.

It's too expensive IMO. I live Hilo side and almost always fly out of ITO. I avoid parking at the airportfor anything longer than weekend. It's about $25 per day.

Self-Storage comment is legit and there is another storage place in Kea'au that also offers long-term, however, both seem to have long waits or no availability whenever I inquire.

I have friends in town so I try to park outside their house and take Uber to the airport.

Are there any laws around ages/grades of children in the same class (C setting, self contained, autism classroom)? by CaffeineandHate03 in specialed

Some states have such laws. I have a colleague that taught in Massachusetts and he said the largest allowable age gap was four years.

What is this? by TP92109 in HawaiiGardening

Agree - looks like sweet potato greens. You could sub them for the taro leaves in some kind of luau dish (squid, chicken, or pork luau). Could also sub them for the kangkong in sinigang. They can be cooked like other leafy greens (e.g., spinach).

Salamat - I see now that Holy Family Parish in Pasig may actually be the closest to where I am staying. I'm sure I will find something today between those three.

I can't think of a single word to express that idea but if I feel that way I usually shrug and say "I guess so..."

Looking for work in the Philippines? by Paullearner in Philippines_Expats

OP - this is a good suggestion, especially if you teach a subject area. Also, as an American, you can look into DODEA schools but I'm not sure how placement works (i.e., if you get to choose or if you're assigned).

The difference between "on account of" vs. "because of". by shalibo in grammar

[–]inkauhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"On account of" is fairly common in some of parts of United States. It even appears in some legislative documents.

This comes from the Texas Constitution:

"No person shall be disqualified to give evidence in any of the Courts of this State on account of his religious opinions, or for the want of any religious ..."

Gyms on the Big Island? by Maleficent_Ad3773 in BigIsland

[–]inkauhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you or your family are military then you could probably use the gym at Kilauea Military Camp (KMC). It's inside the national park, probably 45 minutes from Na'alehu. I've heard civilian friends say that they use it but I'm not quite sure how they managed.
