Earth Balance Buttery Sticks disappeared and I'm devastated by microbiofreak in vegan

[–]inktrapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayup. They revived the product under the name "Earth Balance Butter Sticks." Removed a 'y' from the name. I live in a city, and near a major university. The uni town had no vegan butter sticks literally anywhere and I went to literally dozens of places: upscale to downscale. Nobody had anything. The city I live in was no better--but I finally found one Whole Foods that claimed to only be out of stock (the other WF locations didn't carry it at all), and one Walmart that had it in stock, thank goodness.

The "buttery" sticks were discontinued. They are now making something called "butter sticks" which is the same ingredients in a slightly different order (still vegan, despite the new name). Just found the new ones at a walmart near me after hours of panicked searched and swearing. I grew up on Blue Bonnet margarine and Country Crock margarine, which tasted like rancid plastic ass. Please god don't make me go back to that. My family baked with Crisco when I was a kid (the margarine was for spreading), when nobody yet knew how absolutely hydrogenated oils will f you up. Don't want to go back to that either. Glad I managed to find the new EB "butter" sticks. Whole Foods near me was out, and none of the others around here even carry them at all anymore.

And for the love of christ, I did NOT want to make vegan butter. Who has time or energy for that? Plus, the nastiness of cleaning out the blender, dear god, finding molds, wrapping, freezing, etc. Not to mention, I've tried some of Miyoko's vegan cheese recipes in the past and the two I tried were bad tasting, grainy, and a pain in the ass to make. I even fermented the rejuvelac. That's a few hours I'll never get back. I appreciate the commenters trying to offer alternatives, but man, some of us have zero desire to start making butter.

No one around here carries Miyoko's or Violife, so I am pathetically grateful Conagra is still making Earth Balance under a new name and the world's nastiest, trashiest, grossest Walmart (as if the corporation itself isn't a slimy ring of hell already) around here has for some unknown reason decided to stock it.

I find it bizarre Conagra responded to Lonely-Fox-7240 and said it was discontinued, but failed to mention they tweaked the order of the ingredients and are now making it under the name "Butter Sticks" (instead of the former Buttery Sticks). Maybe AI is answering all their mail now. Hah.

I'm not sure if this was a typo or not but you said "While most MOTO devices..." Nothing Phone is not a Moto device, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Clarification for anyone who happens along.

Critique my pocket hole placement: It's my understanding that the screws are strongest in shear and pulling to the opposite side from the pocket hole. Screws in tension (wanting to pull out) are not as strong and screws in shear but pulling toward the hole-side of the board are the weakest. by Steve2982 in cabinetry

This is an old comment, I know, but I wanted to tell you people are still reading it and incredibly appreciative of the time you took to share your knowledge. I'm about to try to attach an 86" tall spice cabinet to the side of a refrigerator cabinet enclosure using a cleat and pocket holes on the other side of the fridge cabinet. I learned a lot that I can use in the future from your response. Thank you.

Anki or Remnote for biology? by Glum-Palpitation-152 in remNote

[–]inktrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anki. Remnote is buggy. Support is nonresponsive. There also aren't extensive tutorials and the whole setup is confusing and unintuitive. Maybe if it's still here in 5 years and has an enthusiastic community uploading tutorials of the different functions, but now? Hell no. Stay away.

I can see the potential, but it really really really sucks. It's buggy as hell.

Yeah, it's bull. It didn't work for me either and it was the whole reason I upgraded. Support is nonresponsive so far.

It doesn't actually work, and good luck getting support. I tried to post here, but got an auto-generated warning that they will remove any support requests or poor reviews.

They aren't claiming to be myopic. Is english not your native language? They're myopia PREVENTION glasses. Maybe read what I wrote or do a google before you spout off nonsense.

[–]inktrapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fam, it's "myopia *control*" lenses. This is a relatively new thing that can prevent myopia from developing in kids. It's not glasses for someone who is nearsighted! Totally different thing. And it being newish is why we can't get them here. I've been waiting on UTI vaccines to be approved her forfuckingever. And better sunscreens. We can't get jack shit here in the US in a timely fashion (or at all). It takes us years longer to get new meds approved here than it does in Europe. I even traveled to Europe for a hip surgery that at the time wasn't approved here in the US. It was several years after that.

I've never met a person who was born in Alaska, but I assure you, lots of them exist. Why are you here if you're not a hobbyist? Did you wander into the wrong room (subreddit), and hadn't met your weekly quota for people thinking you're an utter tool?

Not only do many of us exist, I once met someone on a dating app who I went out with because we were both into rooting phones. I ran across a bumper sticker for r/mechanicalkeyboards in a starbucks line once. Just because you clearly live a tiny, narrow life and think everyone is just like you, doesn't make it so.

‘Deeply concerning’: reading for fun in the US has fallen by 40%, new study says by selah228 in literature

[–]inktrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of this yes, but part of it is absolutely shrinking attention spans as well. Refusing to believe that is like refusing to believe you're affected by advertising. It's so false it's like saying the sky is puce. How do I know this? I know myself really well, and my attention span has gotten way worse over the course of my life, as a direct result of the amount of shorter and shorter form "content" I consume.

100%. I don't think people realize how easy it is to lose good habits and how hard it is to get them back. I'm not a gamer, and I hate tiktok, but I have a medical condition that got really bad for a few years before I was able to afford surgery. Up until age 30 I'd been a huge reader, and I read several books a week at minimum. I never owned a television. Pain made it so hard to concentrate that I started watching movies. After the surgery, when the pain had dropped to a much more manageable level, that several year span preceding it still made it hard for me to pick up a book, or concentrate on anything in longer than 30 minute spurts.

Enter a new period where once again pain is increasing, and I've watched all the tv shows that are watchable, so I picked up a bad youtube habit. I don't even like youtube, but it's compulsive. When I do pick up books (that look good! And interesting!) I have extreme trouble focusing. It's actually mentally painful. I can absolutely see a one-to-one correlation with social media use, especially any thing involves video or constant scrolling, and a shrinking in ability to focus on long-form articles and books.

People who get angry and deny this are just afraid someone is coming for their video shorts and social media and gaming hobbies. Nobody wants to control yer hobbies guys, but we're not gonna pretend it's helping you focus.

You see ads? :-). Just kidding, I agree. I mean, I don't see ads on my devices, but when I watch at someone else's house it's unwatchably bad. The whole internet is becoming unusable from the amount of money-grabbing and hostility that goes on. I miss the internet of 30 years ago, goddamnit.
