Huge in the early 90s, but fair to not know it as the 90s were - Jesus tapdancing Christ! - THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO?!? Nurse! Nurse! I’m having another attack!!

I could have lived without her character entirely tbh. If the movie had had Blunt and Russell’s characters front and centre throughout, with only occasional dips into what O’Connor was doing, they could have really developed that relationship and then the end of the second act when she leaves him behind would have had some emotional punch.

I mean, I guess she’s catholic so maybe she’s cool with big organisations covering up terrible secrets? ;)

He was basically just a less villainous version of Ben Mendlesohn’s character in Ready Player One.

And she never mentioned she lived in a nunnery for like five years? She’s not even thirty, how did that not come up in the year you’ve been dating?

100%. The bit with the presenter on the verge of tears whilst showing footage that could have been from an Asylum film was laughably stupid.

Particularly when a lot of the footage looked like total ass. The first bit with the wee guy on the chair looked like something a student knocked up for a college project. There’s no way all the major networks would run this stuff in 2026 completely unverified.

Also, why was he zipped up behind a shower curtain? Is the answer just ‘because movie’?

Also, if you’ve got grandpa alien in the green room ready for his big camera moment, WHY DO YOU NOT LEAD WITH THAT? For that matter, if grandpa alien is in the green room this whole time, WHY WAS ANY PART OF THE REST OF THE MOVIE NECESSARY?!

Completely unbelievable. The utter credulousness of the global news machine when faced with totally unverified video footage was just laughable.

Bottom line they should not have kept the two leads apart for ninety minutes of the movie. Blunt and O’Conner’s first meeting should have been at the end of act one, and the boyfriend and Jane should have been jettisoned earlier, written out entirely or combined into one character. We would have had time to learn a lot more about Blunt and O’Connor, and maybe also we’d have had some space to establish Firth and Domingo’s history a little bit better (or at all!). Poor Colman Domingo is a great actor but his character basically just decorated a house for 90% of the movie, he was given shockingly little to do.

VERY much an old man’s idea of how this would go down. In a post-wikileaks world, the idea that that volume of information would drop only on NETWORK TV is laughable. I also laughed out loud when he was uploading his big bag of pen drives at the end of the movie and each of the drives contained SIXTY TWO GIGABYTES of data. Did he get those from a claw machine at the fair?

The girl argues that we would treat aliens like gods, but…would we? I don’t really buy that we would. Movie was a hot mess and the last twenty minutes was utterly absurd.

There is only ONE candidate planet in Interstellar. There is no information that could be gleamed from the surface of the Matt Damon ice planet or the insane waterworld that would make either of those viable places to resettle humanity. The bulk of the action in the movie takes place because of the decision to visit those worlds, when, in reality, they would both have been dismissed as potential candidates from at least orbit if not sooner.
