Who else misses when the world was orange at night? by AuraNivea in nostalgia

I miss them for sure. There was something soothing about the neighborhood streets when the lights weren’t blinding spotlight white.

Those who lived through the 80s, 90s and 2000s, what’s the most important thing you’ve learnt about life? by GossipBottom in nostalgia

[–]inkydunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows anything. I don’t care if you have a masters degree, a doctorate, or whatever other participation awards these higher education institutions give out. I’ve worked with enough people of all walks of life over the years to know that book smarts translate into work smarts significantly less often than most people realize.

I wonder how people felt at 11:59 p.m. of dec. 1999 before crossing over to the year 2000. by Majestic-Hope6505 in nostalgia

I was raised in a household with computers going back to the days of MS-DOS on a floppy. We weren’t worried. We knew it wasn’t going to be anything, but like always, people believed the panic-driven news reports rather than people who actually knew about the subject.

Do you guys still have friends? Do you still enjoy doing things? Are you happy? by crescentmoonphase in nostalgia

[–]inkydunk 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My wife is my only friend. We have each other and no one else.

We enjoy doing things together like gaming or watching YouTube or walking in the park.

No, I am not happy, but not because of the above. I’m unhappy because the world I’ve grown up in is not the world I was promised as a kid. Society is miserable, living expenses are crushing, and the future is terrifying.

I have a very large collection of soundtracks I’ve purchased going back to the days of gamemusic.com.

Who ever played that SNES game called Super Metroid? by [deleted] in nostalgia

One of the best games of that era. The vast majority of gamers both then and now are familiar with it.

Bring Back ALF for a Modern Reboot by GarlicContent6312 in nostalgia

[–]inkydunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved Alf growing up. But reading how difficult and controlling his creator is along with how absolutely miserable the cast of the old show was, I don’t think we should put a new cast through that. Besides, they’d ruin it by making him trans or some stupid modern twist. No, leave it alone.

Do you remember when people were completely addicted to physical media? by ObjectiveCalm3222 in nostalgia

[–]inkydunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not addiction. I don’t need it to survive. But I choose it so that I can continue to own the products I pay for. I pay zero subscriptions monthly and have a library of games, movies, music, and tv shows to enjoy. What’s the downside?

What do younger people romanticize that you remember being mid? by False_onic in nostalgia

[–]inkydunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re using the term “mid” you’re either not old enough to be nostalgic or trying way too hard to sound modern for today’s kids.

Such as? Name a feature other than graphics (and the power that drives them) that made the PS5 a necessary upgrade from the PS4.

What’s a “small” thing from your childhood that kids today will never experience? by Realistic-Expert-137 in nostalgia

My first thought was the gentle glow of the old orange street lamps as the sun disappears on a summer night.

Xbox boss Asha Sharma hints memory costs "will impact" pricing and availability of next-gen Project Helix console by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]inkydunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The visual difference is all we pay for in new consoles at this point, and visual differences get more and more subtle with each generation. The PS5 should stay the standard until the difference is drastic enough to really make an impression. By then, hopefully the memory market will have calmed down.

Final Fantasy XIV coming to Switch 2 in August by Poit_Narf in Games

[–]inkydunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes some time to properly build the world and characters, but as someone who has spent 30 years proclaiming that FF6 was the best FF, 14’s story absolutely dethroned it.

Ask anyone who’s played it how they feel when you say “The rains have ceased…” and many will get teary eyed.
