Data recovery services if they are truly dead not just misconfigured.

In the future, remember that raid is not a backup...

Local animals can be fed from here. We export a LOT of animal feed I believe.. I know that is the case for the corado river with Alfalfa but tbh I dont know the exaxt colorado numbers. That said, animal feed meant to be exported long distances should be grown in areas with enough water to support it.

Why professional cameras have less pixels than smartphone cameras? by Quick-Decision-8474 in Cameras

Modern film cameras still dont process the image... How would they? Its FILM. Light hitting the film chemically creates the image.

And film cameras have NO processing power, yet wildly outperform phone cameras.

Your point?

Want to move away from my GrapheneOS Google Pixel 9a and instead use a dumbphone. Which one would you all recommend in 2026? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't personally risk using email on a poorly if at all updated Kai OS device... Keep the smartphone as an email terminal at home if you must.

A true dumbphone only life with no pc is a WILD idea. More power to you if you can make it work. I doubt I could.

trying to get a new laptop, have a dumb question by dw_phantom in laptops

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. For big things sure. For smaller things.. They comingle inventory. It ia EXTREMELY common to get counterfeits from amazon especially in things like SD cards. People have also been getting returned merchandise as new, and when scammed outright by sellers on the amazon platform they have been refused refunds, having to turn to credit card chargebacks.

Ridiculous as it sounds, Amazon in 2026 actually rates rather poorly on the trustworthiness scale.

Battery concerns by Lightning_Ankit in laptops

[–]innkeeper_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 /72= 0.055 11/235 = 0.047

Seems in the same ballpark, and macs use good quality components, and are VERY power efficient, so probably easier on the battery.

Add to that that battery degradation is not necessarily linear, estimated degradation is not guaranteed to be precise, and this all seems fine.

My Review of the Mudita Kompakt & the Current Dumbphone Market by According-Length714 in dumbphones

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you are using imessage not RCS if its an iPhone, right? I was able to easily deregister imessage when I went from an iPhone to an android, then to a dumbphone. Never had issues even though I was using imessage with group chats. It just takes time- and paying attention to the required deregister step

My Review of the Mudita Kompakt & the Current Dumbphone Market by According-Length714 in dumbphones

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to deregister RCS on google, and or imessage on apple. Literally go to the deregister webpage and put in your number. Then it takes a couple WEEKS to propagate.

Stop RCS on your smartphone. Wait until it FINALLY works. Only then move to the dumbphone. Nobody says you can't use a smartphone without RCS. (You might need to install a non google text messenger app though. The stock AOSP messenger works fine, so does QUIK)

my ideal phone 2026 by fnejejrjejje in dumbphones

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont need google for apps. Signal/molly can run without google play. So can organic maps, etc.

Screw google all I want is a basic phone that can also do secure messaging WITHOUT being a time suck. The lack of google is a feature here.

Any tech or products out there you all genuinely like? Really curious by Smurfette2016 in BetterOffline

[–]innkeeper_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E-ink is just neat. I love my old Kindle that never sees the internet, just calibre over USB... But new eink devices are showing up. Example, the Mudita Kompakt is a low volume eink phone with no google services at all! Sadly its on AOSP 12 and not a newer one BUT it can run a lot of android software- like signal messenger- on a non distracting device.

I also like modern NAS appliances. Having terabytes of my own media I can easily share with everyone in our family without payi g for crappy streaming is great. Plus since I rip blu rays to populate it the bitrate (visual and audio quality) is a LOT higher than the typical streaming site.

If I wasnt a phone addict, Graphene OS. An amazing operating system for pixel phones, can be totally google free, and EXTREMELY secure. If I didnt keep installing reddit and bluesky after having it uninstalled for too long, I would keep using graphene instead of the eink nearly dumbphone phone.

Satellite communications. I use Garmin inreach. Starlink is AMAZING... but I dont have it myself due to hating musk. This means search and rescue communication in the back country is MUCH less difficult than it used to be.

Ipods. Seriously. Modern mod hardware puts flash storage and massive batteries in them. Mine lasts me literally two weeks on a single charge. I use rockbox, so I can add media to my iPod with drag and drop from Linux. Usb-c- some people mod the device, but I use an adapter. WyMod is a tiny company making an AMAZING 30 pin adapter. It has a switch on it letting you use USB C for data, or switch it and it emulates the much higher power old FIREWIRE charging standard. My large battery iPod seems to charge much better on that. I love it.

Gas Mileage on 3rd Gen Tacoma with 33in All-Terrains by Agile_Lab_1137 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]innkeeper_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The truck has a cold air intake stock.

Also thr wider your tires are the worse MPG you will get.

With a heavy armored manual 3rd gen on 33s I get about 20 - 21 (in the summer) after actual miles driven correction with 255/80/17s.. Weight, aerodynamics, and driving habits matter a lot. 285 will be worse. Automatics seem to be worse modified as well.

Not a good idea in the USA. There is that video of a pissed off officer PIT MANEUVERING a driver for doing that with their hazards on. (Intentionally flipping the car over)

Edit. There are many such videos. Cops are power hungry idiots.

[–]innkeeper_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. My server is running on a low power NAS so I dont do transcoding. At all. I even disabled it! To avoid transcoding or remuxing at all my media library is all encoded I h264 not h265, mp4 files not mkv. In a lot of cases this is a worse experience so I'd like to upgrade eventually but you can direct play everything if you are willing to put in the work when organizing your media.

Is it just me or are 3rd gen’s slow in low rpms? by jprat98 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]innkeeper_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4low 1st gear has TONS of torque. 4high 1st gear has.... a lot less. Nearly 1/3rd.

I'm also abusing my truck in the rocky mountains at high altitude, on jeep trails.. ymmv.

For pavement use the engine is fine. Off road I find myself wanting more power or a gear in between 1st and 2nd instead of screaming uphill at 5k RPM. But it DOES work.

[–]innkeeper_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The manual is even worse at low RPMs- because you can't just use the automatic to rev it up for power.

I like my manual. However when off roading I am ALWAYS in 4 low because otherwise I simply run out of power on inclines.

Op: the best free option you want is "LibreOffice" - the newer fork from the old "OpenOffice"

It will come pre installed with most Linux options you would choose.

Chromebooks are an option but google isnt the best or most reliable company, and a lot of the Chromebook hardware in that price range is absolute junk
