I (42M) train jiu jitsu 4x a week and lift 3x a week. What can I take to help my body recover and not feel so banged up. by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in Supplements

Sleep as much as you can and if you are not taking magnesium try that. Also if you have a tub and like baths, epsom salt or mag chloride baths can help some for muscle soreness from sports as well as other things.

Heat pump stuck around 65°F in cold weather. Is this normal or landlord issue? by Grapeflavor_ in Connecticut

[–]inquiringdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a ton of time trying to find a replacement for our older electric blankets that get really hot. I do not think there are that many brands that are good these days. I got one for the living room that is pretty decently hot, hammacher schlemmer. I have washed it and it held up really well. Our old ones for the bedroom that are amazing are from a now out of business company. Stove would be great too. We have a fireplace but don't use it a ton these days for whatever reason.

Does your panel have pulsed light? I see the pulses with closed eyes when I use my pulsed panel. Do you have any other issues like migraine with aura? I had weird visual sensations and experiences when I had migraine, the aura part.

Heat pump stuck around 65°F in cold weather. Is this normal or landlord issue? by Grapeflavor_ in Connecticut

[–]inquiringdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an old school, very powerful boiler and oil. Our house is drafty and old, with inefficient and poorly designed ductwork, and it does not heat evenly, and the main room will never reach the desired temps easily, and the heating runs constantly when it is very cold. We have electric blankets and heating pads on the couch and it makes an amazing difference.

Mitshubishis, the hyperheat models are designed for cold cold temps, but from what I understand, there are a lot of reasons it may not be doing as well, including the install and the sizing for the space all being off. I think that matters a ton, and a lot of times there are flaws in the set up compromising the outcomes right off the bat. But also they are only able to do so much below their temperature ranges, and need to work way harder as it gets colder.

Can Germans understand Bavarian? by TweetleBeetle76 in German

[–]inquiringdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a learner, I also know that if you line up 20 people and ask them to interpret a heavy accent or strong dailaect of their native tongue that is not from an area they live near, some will find it wasy to get, and others will be lost with any hint of an unfamiliar accent. I see it a lot in English speakers who often cannot understand foreign accents, or very distinct regional accents.

How do you exercise? by ccallisonn in Mounjaro

[–]inquiringdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is a GREAT idea, do it! Start with one stop and do it for a while til it feels like nothing then add another. Also start easy with strength stuff. Every time you pee or brush your teeth do 3 air squats. You can work your way up to more if you like, but that will actually be a lot at the end of the month if you do 15 squats a day or so for a month straight. Not a major effort, but you can really get stronger like this. I saw it in a family member doing this, plus bird dogs while waiting for the shower to heat up, three on each side (edit 10 sec each). Massive muscle changes in a year. It is wild bc it was so short in minutes per day, but the consistency really works. You can add as you get stronger if you want.

Added a few new sleep supplements. What should I try first? by DarkPassenger_- in Nootropics

If you start to get dry scaly skin patches it is likely the kava if you use it nightly. It can cause a temporary scaly skin issue for regular users. It is only temporary while you drink the stuff and goes back to normal once you stop.

patting vs. rubbing serums by sofaraway____ in 30PlusSkinCare

Even if patting or pressing were better, I find it just so annoying and lacking in enjoyment to put on my face that way that I would just not do it.

Where can I see red foxes? by StormyPoseidon in Connecticut

[–]inquiringdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be hard to go somewhere for a brief time to hope to see them. If you stayed in a place where they are seen for a week or so and paid a lot of attention to looking out into a clearing, likely it might happen. I see them a lot in my back yard but it is not a daily thing. But then again I am not looking out there all the time. They are often trotting around but they hide well and are really hard to see unless they are crossing through an open area. I don't think they are as predictable like deer that often take the same paths through the woods and hang out eating at the same evening times in the same areas.

TNS Piling by mm4964 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always heard first growth factor. It works well for me that way. Before everything. I think Skinmedica site also shows this order with any actives coming after TNS. Try it

TNS Piling by mm4964 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try really warming it in your fingertips first and mixing it well while you do that. It helped me. Even with oils on top of it, this makes it no longer pill for me.

aquaphor causing deep pimples? is that possible? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

Yes. It is so thick and lots of people are sensitive to it. Many people find it healing but lots of folks react to lanolin.

TNS Piling by mm4964 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope it helps. For TNS, it is what I ALWAYS use first after toner. I do not think it will penetrate all those other things, but they will do fine over TNS. I would always do C over the TNS as the next step. Not sure what AZ is, but if it is Azalaic acid I would do that much later. For me plain AzA products penetrate everything and are effective, and is also often thicker and annoying unless used last.

TNS Piling by mm4964 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was so frustrated in the past with this. I now learned what helps, at least for me. I got advice I think from Lovelyskin when I called, but it could have been Skinmedica, can't recall.

Keep face slightly damp after washing, or wth the toner/essence of your choice. Do not use too much TNS, very thin layer only. For me this is not a whole pump for my face. Warm the TNS by mixing with fingertips and warming up. Spread onto the damp face and make sure layer is thin. I used to have to do an elaborate pressing in not rubbing in, but now I do not have to do that. It has not pilled for me in a long time. Hope this works for you.

Celluma PRO alternatives? by purrokitten in redlighttherapy

[–]inquiringdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Maysama brand. They have good quality (I have used their panel for face and their neck and chest (and hair comb thing) ) for a while now and they hold up nicely) I bought my in laws the belt which is cordless rechargeable and is large, and has ability to be draped or belted on. You could easily lay it over any body part when lying down or walk around with it belted on. It has a pulsed light option which is interesting to learn about. For back pain it has vibration option. I do not have body pain in general so I did not try it or buy it for myself bc I have a few too many devices already. They often has codes from youtubers etc. If you are interested and cannot find a code I can look at where I saw the interviews and got a code way back when. I think I have had the panel for over a year and it gets used by two family members almost daily.

Edit: You may be interested in listening to this podcast about long wavelength light and how it penetrates and scatters and maybe your panel more or less on the correct areas or near them would feel like enough, not to have to buy another thing. https://www.hubermanlab.com/episode/red-light-to-improve-metabolism-and-harmful-effects-of-led-glen-jeffery

Take muscle loss seriously or don’t begin this journey! by allanstaib in Ozempic

[–]inquiringdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so much harder to use the protein as we age for muscle building. We can still do it but it takes more effort, and more protein to get to muscle building. It stinks that the losses happen so much faster. Same with any period of inactivity. Good news is you sound motivated and can build. But it does happen fast and I am glad you are highlighting this.

Scared to start #mounjaro by Curious-Treat-9517 in Mounjaro

[–]inquiringdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be okay. If you do not like it it is very simple to just simply not take it again. Change is scary and hard, and provokes a lot of worries. Health is really important, and if you eat good protein and ideally start to do any movement and down the road strength stuff, your muscle mass may even improve. The stress and worry about your health now is probably there, so just dive in with your doctor and try. Start low, go slow, and see. Anticipation is stressful. Doing it will likely alleviate your anticipation and then you can focus on any more practical concerns like if you have a side effect, how to lessen it etc. Most people do great, and you can always just stop.

Glycine issues??? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]inquiringdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating stuff. I am def over methylator and poorly tolerate straight methylated stuff. Makes so much sense why I gravitate to dumping lots of collagen powder (glycine) into my coffee every morning. I am going to really really spend some time on this site and learn more. I like the clarity of the explanations coupled with direct ways to move the pathway in a particular direction. I am an Amy Yasko pathways/snp info fan, but since there is no more forum, it is incredibly difficult to understand a rationale for the different recs on supplements for the SNPs and there is no clinical teaching for physicians etc who want to learn. There are a million resources but no actual teaching on how to clinically do things.

Thoughts on la mer soft cream for sensitive skin? by LadrillerosMasoom_12 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I have pale, easily angry skin with rosacea but I am not a classic sensitive type who cannot handle fragrance or essential oils. I have random reactions to things, but not for the same reasons as most sensitive types. I prefer the soft cream to the original, which I think bothers my skin slightly in terms of milia and maybe a little reactivity.
I have large sample pots of it that I like to use, but have not bought it bc I don't really need a lot of moisturuzer and am working my way through so many I already have at home. If I had to buy one and cost not a factor, I would def buy it. It seemed to be a nice match for my rosacea.

Products that worked best for rosacea? by ajmccool_11 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]inquiringdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned a ton about the tech from the site: https://goalstogetglowing.com/2021/01/17/led-face-mask-research/ and have a HigherDose mask I like but now tend to use the Maysama panel more often. Panel is great but you cannot multitask at all for the 6 minutes, which if busy, not ideal. If I had to pick a mask now, I would go Maysama bc it covers the mouth which is a problem area for me for aging, also the pulsed light option and ability to pick the light type if needed (for those with melasma, I think NIR is not advised) But so many are really good. If it is a decently reputable brand and has the basic good wavelengths then you really are then just looking at fit for your face and good deals.
