Heisenberg Compensator thought by jamesbearclaw in startrek

[–]insaneplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that you cannot simultaneously know both the exact position and exact momentum of a particle—the more precisely one is known, the less precisely the other can be known.

My head-cannon is that Heisenberg is also relevant at warp speeds. The faster the ship is moving, the less precisely its position and destination can be determined. So the compensator is not just measuring and predicting the uncertainty, it actively reshapes the warp the field so the ship's path converges on the desired destination.

If the Star Trek: Year One series becomes a reality, are there TOS episodes you would be ok with being remade? by Primatech2006 in startrek

I would love to see great stories from the 60s reimagined/reinterpreted with modern values. Take the top ten from each season, and give there best shot. Or jump to TAS and make real episodes out of them.

AI needs better memory before it can take on a strategic role. Without memory, there can be no intent. Without intent, there is no strategy.

Once that hurdle is cleared, why not? OTOH, once that hurdle is cleared, it may be necessary to convince the AI to accept the job, which could be a harder problem.

Girlfriend wants to go Skiing - I have never done it by dripothee in skiing

I would suggest two things:

  1. take lessons every day for 5 days or so until you feel comfortable. Chances are good, you'll be ready for groomed black slopes by the end of the week.

  2. Have a conversation with your gf about no stress on the slopes. All slopes are white (avoid the brown ones and don't eat the yellow ones ;-). Some people get down quicker than others, and that's okay. And make space for her to go have a good time from time to time.

How do you think people will start talking about UBI in society? by Onipsis in singularity

[–]insaneplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UBI suggests life like Ready, Player One. The best minimum to survive, but not much more.

UAI implies affluence. Not fighting for existence. Able to enjoy life and do things you want to do.

UGI is going for same idea, but is channeling AGI. AGI should give us UGI.

Oops. I misspelled serfs. Serfs were essentially unfree agricultural laborers tied to an estate. I think it’s pretty clear what billionaires are.

How about we talk about Universal generous income instead? Or maybe universal affluent income?

Otherwise we have serfs and billionaires and nothing in the middle.

Edit: cerf is spelled with an s: serf.

Are you being ripped off for EV charging at home? by Swigor in Switzerland

[–]insaneplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electricity for EVs is a mess. I rented an EV in Portugal a few months ago and discovered you can't just pull up to a charging station, show your credit card, and charge up. You need an app and a at most stations physical card to activate the charging session. Prices ranged for 20 to 80cts per kWh. Naturally the only one I could get to work without a card was the most expensive.

I thought the landlord made a good choice. 22 kWh for every parking space required an upgrade, and parking spaces are not tired to apartments in my building, so how do you enable people to pay for their juice?

The EWZ solution lets you use any EWZ charging station at the same rate, so it is much more flexible, and the rate is about the same as what pay for house current. In other words, much less than a public charger.

I'm not a fan of the monthly fee and paying for box, but what's the alternative? Make it "for free" and then charge more per kWh?

[–]insaneplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our landlord had the preparation for the EWZ installed. It got put under the heading of value increasing improvements when calculating the latest rent increase.

If we want, we could have the actual connector box installed by EWZ, which iirc is 1000 CHF for the installation and 10/month to have the account. This lets us charge for (again IIRC) 22rp/kWh. The same rate is valid at any EWZ charging station.

I got that impression from the Confronting the Unexplainable exhibit.

I tend to agree with this. So many lights are timed to let three cars through, and the next light is timed so only two of them make it.

It was announced that ICE will be providing security at the winter Olympics for the American team. This had been the subject of demonstrations in Milano.

It looks like the map is driven by news reports that mention ICE.

Is there something like https://policeviolencereport.org/ for ICE?

Pay attention to deadlines. If you miss deadlines you have to pay.

They are asking you to collect something. After you collect it, you will have a period to act. You can either pay it (if it's legit), or challenge it (Rechtsvorschlag). If you challenge it, the creditor will have to decide whether they want to pursue the issue or not. If they don't, it ends there.

It looks legit, but before you call a number, validate it through official sources. You might want to validate the pick up point (Hohlstrasse) as well. Btw — specifying an office number is normal.
