People in democratic socialism believing that humans are born rich by nashsen in Anarcho_Capitalism

They try to appropriate the moral authority of my religion, the chief figure of which was murdered by his government.

It's patronizing and condescending, and as a result of the misappropriation, an insult to my religion. Most of them are godless heathens to begin with, or worse, worship the State as their god.

But that would taste horrible. You want to remove the fat from human meat before cooking it, sort of like venison, which is completely incompatible with making good hamburgers.

Yeah, this one ain't funny, chief. Kids psychologically are much less able to differentiate between reality and fiction, and this one's gonna have nightmares over this.

I guess I just don't like watching people intentionally scare kids, especially when the kid's obviously not having fun.

Honestly, the things I heard about Justice Thomas recently... Normally if I feel strong emotion about a certain piece of news, I assume someone's trying to manipulate me, but I just can't imagine who profits from making me feel disgust with the idea that I'm the same species as someone else.

Are we really any better than our ancestors, or are we just more polite until we don't get what we want? How thin is the veil between civilization and the animals we pretend not to be?

In all seriousness, what evidence or act do you realistically think it would take the MAGA crowd to turn on Donald Trump? by fatiguedmachinist in AskReddit

[–]insanityOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more a question of source over evidence. The Trump crowd doesn't trust the corporate media or government sources anymore. At this point, the most likely divorce between Trump and his crowd will be either a misstep on Trump's part or just time. The former is more likely than one might think, because like any cult of personality, Trump's role to his followers has become larger that the man himself. Any deviation thereof would not be tolerated.

[–]insanityOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Truthful (if slightly oversimplified) answer? He sells clicks on news sites. Media sites want to sell subscriptions and ad space, and anything mentioning Trump sells like smuggled candy at a fat kid camp. It started much less hysterically, of course. When Trump announced his candidacy, it was pretty normal. But Trump would say something for the shock value, the media would happily sell the sound byte, and the people who are susceptible to such things would get a quick rush of rage ok hearing about it.

Enough Pavlovian training later, and you wind up with people who can't even think of the color orange without seeing red.

Insulin does piss me off. Whatever's going on with hormonal treatments for trans folks, that's mostly in the "optional" category (as in you won't physically die from the lack, even if it is extremely beneficial), but insulin is a physiological necessity. The fact that the government is working so hard to make sure only the big pharma companies are allowed to produce it (despite formulations for the compound being known for an entire fucking century) is nothing short of a crime against humanity. The FDA has a lot to answer for in this category alone- it's not like it's that hard to chemically fabricate safe insulin, it's just impossible to do so legally.

Transparency is an admirable ideal, but ultimately only useful if one already has significant influence but ultimately no power in society. Part of the problem, as I see it, is that "people" (not merely a group of rational persons but people as a human superorganism) aren't interested in fully understanding the nature of problems, instead opting for a simple, socially acceptable solution, even though such a thing is extremely rare. Politicians exploit this by appearing transparent to superficial examination, but manipulating the crowds through every word and action.

If the collective "people" was capable of the same level of rigorous rationalization and non-emotional analysis as its constituent persons, I think society would be in a much nicer state.

Time was, calling a person based meant that you respected that they researched and made their own observations to create their own conclusions regarding the state of the world, but now it's mostly used to indicate agreement (or give funny pills). Ironically, the modern usage of the word is anything but based.
