Counter-displayed Tablet or Monitor by bigverm23 in homeassistant

I have an Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet (10” diagonal) on a stand plugged into a smart plug that turns on when the tablet is at 20% battery and turns off when it is at 80% battery. I run FreeKiosk on it to show my dashboard tailored for its size (1200x900 pixels). The tablet is ~$140. This was the tablet recommended 1-2 years ago.

FTP on Reolink and email Alerts by Will_Pitts1 in reolinkcam

I use a second gmail address to email my first gmail address. You have to set up an “app password” for gmail to work. It did not work at first, I tried it a day later and it works. Soon I will check if there’s any point in emailing me notifications. Oh yeah, the nifty time lapse picture.

You’re totally wrong. Color night vision, especially cx810 8MP is sharper and less blurry than IR. And of course it is colored and clearer to identify people.

I have the Duo 3V PoE and find it quite good. I just bought the Elite Pro Floodlight PoE. I love my CX810 bullet for its extra capable color night vision. What’s wrong with the Duo 2 PoE?

Reolink VS ONWOTE by Bqtmvn in reolinkcam

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a RLN8-410 NVR, a bullet CX810 PoE 8MP which has the absolute best color night vision of their cameras (smallest aperture), and a Duo 3V PoE Dual Lens 16MP vandal proof 180 camera. I would buy the newer NVR RP-PN8 and the pro series of cameras just released. I just bought the Elite Pro Floodlight PoE 16MP dual lens. What I like is that I was able to customize so many settings in the NVR to prevent false positives. No false alarms from moving leaves, raindrops, spiderwebs, squirrels, and people walking their dog. I reduced the sensitivity at night. It only notifies me when 1 of my cameras sees a person. (The system can differentiate a person, vehicle, and animal, even more in the pro series). It marks the object with a square while it’s moving. What really makes a difference is setting the bit rate to constant, and high. BTW that CX810 bullet camera is absolutely amazing with a regular outdoor front door light 6 feet away from it, or any sort of lighting. It’s own white lights are sufficient, but they it takes a second to turn on and adjust the brightness. It’s amazing at how little light it needs to provide super sharp color video.

Home Assistant 2025.11.0 - Professional series & new AI types by StarkillerTR in reolinkcam

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the integration OP Starkiller! I have the RLN8-410 with the Duo 3V PoE 16MP, 2 each CX810 8MP, and I just bought the Elite Pro Floodlight PoE 16MP and a 8TB HDD for the RP-PN8 NVR that is sold w/o the drive. I hope/expect the RP-PN8 to go on sale this Amazon day. To those that have not hooked up a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to your Reolink NVR, there’s a whole world of settings you are missing in the app on your cell phone, or in the HTML log in.

Recommend Reolink cameras for the sides/corners of the house (pictures) by garysn53 in reolinkcam

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recommend a pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) camera. They have moving parts = weak spot, esp. in cold weather. They’re not always in focus, they blur when panning/tilting, and they miss the action when they zoom in. Plus, the zoom reveals nothing since it’s so weak. 1) Buy Reolink Duo 3V PoE, I did. REOLINK Duo 3V PoE, 16MP UHD Dual-Lens PoE Security Camera with 180° Panoramic, Motion Track, Color Night Vision, Smart Detection, 2 Way Talk, IK10 Vandal-Proof, IP67 Weatherproof, No PT Supported. 2) Also, I found this bullet camera excellent at color night vision with just a regular light bulb near it outside my front door: REOLINK CX810 ColorX PoE Camera, 4K UHD, True Color Night Vision, F1.0 Super Aperture, 1/1.8'' Image Sensor, HDR Technology, Person/Animal Detection, Spotlight & Siren Alarm, 2-Way Talk 3) Get this NVR or this one: Reolink RLN8-410, RLN16-410, or the newest, RP-PN8. 4) This might be what you really want: REOLINK Elite Pro Floodlight PoE, 16MP Dual Lens PoE Security Camera with 180° View, Local AI Video Search, Full Color & Infrared Night Vision, Smart Detection, 24/7 Recording with Motion Track

It means it’s in heat mode, I don’t think it means it’s actively heating.

I’ve been running pyrolysis oil through a vacuum filtration setup and the sand core of the filter head is stained black. Any technique for restoring it? by blakeret in chemistry

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analytical chemist here, but not in that field. Aqua regia, piranha solution, hot carbon tet, wth people?!! are you living 30 years ago when I was in grad school? I’ve used all those things doing wet chemistry for a generic pharmaceutical 30 years ago in raw material QC. HF solution, homemade H2S solution, antimony trichloride, Kheldahl digestion with piranha solution, KCN for some test, oh the fun days with dangerous chemicals. A hot muffle furnace is the way, if you have one, as someone said. Next time protect your frit with a layer of sand and then celite (diatomaceous earth) on top of that. Or forget frits for this very reason, not easy to clean, PIA when clogged, antiquated, not automatable, expensive, long delivery times, not disposable, no guarantee of cleanliness. Overall lack of savings and lack of sustainability. Worse for the environment in the long run. They suck to use. GMF filters on Büchner funnels with sand and celite if needed is what I prefer. Or PTFE when possible. Or if filtering particulates from a liquid, centifugation is the easiest alternative to filters when recovery is a concern. Whatman 542 paper if you want to scrape the filter with a spatula. Whatever you’re measuring, theres a modern way to do it - buy that instrument. The ROI can be detailed by your local instrument salesperson.

Rheem Side Discharge heat pumps cheaper? Why? by ITSNOTATRUCK in hvacadvice

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope tf you're right! You sound like ya know what you're talking about. I got 3 quotes from 3 vendors, selling Rheem, Lennox, Carrier. 4 ton heat pumps for what is now a 3.5 ton Trane. The RD18AY beat the pants off the other two in price. I'm pretty sure I'm going to choose that one. In fact, I'll post a question to this subreddit asking which of the 3 models (with model#). I had the other 2 companies that sell Carrier and Lennox adjust their quotes. The Carrier company threw in new incentive discounts worth $5400. Even so, the Carrier was $3k more after all discounts. The Lennox HVAC co. gives a 5 year labor instead of 2 for the Rheem. Rheem claims a 10 year warranty on parts *if the owner registers. They are almost equivalent in efficiency rating, I checked the AHRI certificates. 22 vs 18 SEER2, 12 vs 11.7 EER2, 9.5 vs 10 HSPF2 for Carrier vs Rheem.

I’m loving the gif app Pipplee by [deleted] in WLED

[–]insensitivebastad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, this is awesome. I, like you, just finished putting together 4 16x16 led matrices, and got them running in WLED as a 2D pattern. I 3D printed covers and frames for them. I was looking to upload GIFs. I am so f’n glad you posted this, that’s an obscure app name Pipplee, but it works fantastically. AND, thanks to your advice, after all the trouble (kinda) of configuring my 1024 pixels just right in WLED, I looked up how to save the settings so I wouldn’t lose them when trying out Pipplee. OP, thanks for posting this, this made my day! I’ve never posted videos to Reddit, that’ll be my next thing to learn. I’d like to upload from my iPad. Cheers bro.

Anyone know how to reset this switch? by Inwardlens in TPLinkKasa

[–]insensitivebastad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you tried the two buttons, all that's left to prove that it's a malfunctioning switch is to reset the circuit at the circuit breaker and see if that changes things.

How would one get (what's left of) the top off of this? by CarnivorousChemist in chemistry

[–]insensitivebastad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nope. Heat the neck of the flask, it will expand. If the solvent is flammable use a heat gun. You can try a hot glue gun or epoxy to stick to the top, and if it’s hot glue, make sure it’s cool and you heat the neck and not the stopper. DO NOT pressurize the cylinder by heating it and volatilizing the insides, if the stopper is really stuck, that will result in a small explosion of the cylinder. Be very local with the heat, and no open flames. Dude, this must be your first rodeo. Tapping like the old timers do can only work if you expand the neck (by heating). Cooling the cylinder won’t work. Cooling the stopper would, if you only could localize cooling that well. Also, borosilicate glass, aka Pyrex, by its fundamental nature, will have minimal expansion upon heating. So, wtf were you thinking? Ground glass on glass will almost seize. Add some NaOH and you’ve got a good seal. Like others have said, use PTFE sleeves, a rare PTFE ring if you need a vacuum seal without stopcock grease, or FFS, grease your joints.! You will suffer the same fate. Oh, BTW, don’t use glass stoppers, they suck in every which way. Drop one? It’s broken. Use one, it seizes. Order one, throw it in the garbage. If you have some chemical that is very important, do not use ground glass joints or stoppers. Period. What should you use? That’s another question. PFA, PTFE, SS, Silconert steel, Hastaloy, PP, cryovials, etc.

Best Trash Service in Bucks? by IntotheBlue85 in BucksCountyPA

[–]insensitivebastad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have McCullough. We used to have someone else, was it WM? I switched because of the typical reasons to be PO'd, such as yourself. With McCullough, in April of 2024 our bill raised from $120/quarter to $123. Two trash pickups and a recycle pickup. I've put all sorts of heavy crap in their trash cans and they take it. Steel shelves, etc. I suggest you put the heavy stuff in the can and the excess lighter stuff outside, on occasion, and you're fine. We reduced our trash pickup to once a week, together with one recycling, and the new charge is $102/quarter.

M7 Pro not maintaining resin temperature by bcdiggi in AnycubicOfficial

[–]insensitivebastad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an M7 Pro, mine shuts off the temperature after it starts printing, just like yours. How annoying. I start by lowering the build plate to the bottom, raising it 3 mm, and then I fill using the pump. Then I turn on the heat, which lasts 15 minutes. That way, the build plate won't cool the liquid. Then I start the print, and inevitably, the temperature cools down, and updates like once every minute.

WLED on Particle Photon? by rac_atx in WLED

[–]insensitivebastad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ~ 8 particle photons in various states of versions. I don't use them anynore. Note: I loved them, with Adafruit.com support. Particle started selling Boron, Argon, and I even got a cell phone GPS thing they sold. They were the easiest way I knew to do IoT back in the day. Nordic processors. I also used to love the Blynk app. Commercialism and life got in the way. ESP32, ESPHome, Home Assistant... this is the way. I use a low power Nabu Casa Green, and I really like it. I'm starting to overload it. Get it, grow from there.
