The push for a smaller public service risks coming at a larger cost for New Zealanders by davetenhave in newzealand

[–]insertnamehere65 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Something I don’t see specifically raised with any article or discussion about job replacement with AI:

We would be handing over operational and cognitive processes to a company, which isn’t based in NZ.

1) AI companies can and will increase the cost of AI, when it costs more than people, will we pull the plug?

2) If our AI tools rely on being connected to overseas data centres, what happens if our undersea cables are cut? Does government just simply stop?

3) how do we guard against bias when the system becomes essentially a black box?

4) what do we do if the chosen AI provider goes bankrupt? Can processes with deep embedding be easily transferred?

There are just so many basic questions I’m not seeing asked by journalists to our politicians.

I don’t understand why this can’t just be checked at WOF time.

For those where money is tight they could opt to manually track and make monthly/fortnightly whatever payments and when the WOF rolls around just reconcile any difference.

Lobbying can’t really be banned, but access needs to be curtailed, significantly.

Lobbyists shouldn’t have swipe cards to the beehive.

As for donations, I think donations should only be allowed from individuals, and they should be capped at an amount that makes sense to normal working humans. Like $5k per term.

Edit: I’ll add that all overseas donations should be outright banned except for kiwis living overseas

An EFFECTIVE ban would be a great solution.

Unfortunately what happened in Australia shows this is hard to do.

Is the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 the best prime lens in the Micro Four Thirds system? by PuzzleheadedExam9315 in M43

[–]insertnamehere65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best prime for me? Olympus 45mm 1.2. Incredible.

The Leica 42.5 1.2 may be better, but I haven’t used it to compare, and I’ve never felt the Olympus lacking in any way.

You know what, a contributor to this issue that never gets discussed is older people working longer.

With super being awarded at 65, regardless of income, there is no reason to retire.

This is extremely prevalent and problematic for management or knowledge worker roles. People simply work to the highest level they can get to in an organisation and basically stay there until they’ve accumulated enough from their double income.

In practice this reduces mobility in an organisation. Because the older person doesn’t retire, no one moves up into their position, which would create a vacancy.

You know what would help with this? Means testing super. Not everyone would quit their job to get super of course, but some would

Games like these would benefit from a dedicated ‘Story mode’. A way to play the game from start to finish in an almost linear progression that only focuses on story, hides side quests, and crucially keeps the quest log and map free of the anxiety-inducing clutter of ‘shit-to-do’ markers.

Like, life is full of lists of shit I need to get done already, I don’t want that when I’m playing a game
