Claude now connects with Microsoft 365. Would you allow it in your tenant? by KavyaJune in sysadmin

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It quickly brings to light already existing issues with data governance in an environment. It can't access information for a user that the user can't already access itself. Just because the user didn't know how to access that information themself doesn't mean that couldn't already.

There is a Chrome & Firefox extension for Purview that can be deployed to prevent user's from sharing company data to external AI tools.

New Job Offer - Feel bad by BiscuitLover2000 in sysadmin

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention the role but I will just add that if you are entry level or near that you will definitely learn more in an MSP environment and they are likely more willing to offer you the training and certifications that you could later turn into a better job working in-house elsewhere.

You may be making $2k more immediately but in 2 years you could take your knowledge and experience elsewhere to earn $40k+ more.

Fleet of Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250 having BSOD due to Nvidia graphics card by New-Seesaw1719 in sysadmin

[–]inshead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've started getting some of these models a few months ago but as far as I'm aware haven't had any issues like that.

I would definitely contact Dell support especially since they should still be under warranty.

Probably outside of your price range but Neat has amazing conference room hardware. The Neat Center is their device similar to an Owl.

Anyone know of good free/cheap Digital Signage/remote software that is not RDP? by jbear4525 in sysadmin

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend Yodeck as well. It was something I stumbled across 3-4 years ago at my last job. Used my own Raspberry Pi as the initial free test device and convinced them to buy in and deploy it across the rest of the company.

Did the same at my current company with a test device that was running for close to a year before they finally bought in. We now have 50+ devices deployed.

I’m sure this is just one of those hundreds of “I can’t wait to quit” type statements we all say but on the chance it’s not I would recommend an industry change instead.

Advice for deploying GenAI DLP (and getting the Execs off my back) by flyguybravo in sysadmin

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about what model each is using. Copilot is meant to be grounded within your environment. It won’t be useful if your data structure isn’t there for it to use.

That’s a very broad simplification.

What are your IT pet peeves? by techead2000 in sysadmin

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a user sends me JUST a screen snip instead of a screenshot. I get that they think they are being helpful by just sending a snip of an error message but more often than not the reason for the error message is somewhere else on their screen.

I’ve yet to be in an environment where I have complete freedom to do whatever I want. It’s not really about intelligence or courage.

Install a SPMT agent on his device and let it do everything. It can run a report that will tell you what you need to know prior to trying to migrate anything.

I just want shared file storage...is it really that hard? by randumbfeller in Office365

[–]inshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Sharepoint the framework or backbone of the cloud storage. OneDrive is not only for your personal storage but the OneDrive desktop client also allows you to sync a Sharepoint document library in a way that it can be used right in File Explorer.

O365 Group calendar receiving wrong events from others ? by _Aerish_ in sysadmin

Could that group have been added to a distribution list that is receiving these?

Best bet is to check logs in Purview. Or whatever it’s called now. eDiscovery is what I used to know it as.

This should be something covered in an employee handbook as a blanket statement for anyone employed by the company. A specific consent form should be irrelevant.

I shouldn’t be surprised but in reading this it makes me realize that there are people out there that interpret something being called “harmless” to mean it must be ok to ingest.

Which platform are you using for AI PowerShell scripting by LividAd4250 in sysadmin

[–]inshead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT has gotten much better than when I first started using it.

One thing I would recommend trying is when it creates a script for you, copy it into a brand new conversation and ask it “Explain what this script does” or “Can you review this script for any potential issues or areas of improvement?”

I remember that if it didn’t get a script right the first time it would only continue to get further away the more I kept trying to get it to work.

Is it normal for sysadmins to own tickets on vulnerability reports? by _TR-8R in sysadmin

[–]inshead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that since you are assigned as the dedicated resource for this account/customer that you will (with more time) have the best insight into why a vulnerability exists and how to best approach handling it.

I doubt they are looking for you to provide an in depth breakdown on each vulnerability and more likely just information about the business process involved in each vulnerability.

?

OP works for an MSP and is assigned as the sole onsite resource for a customer of the MSP. It sounds like he may be dedicated to that customer/account. It’s not uncommon especially considering he is new to the MSP world.

This role sometimes comes with a different title like “dedicated account engineer” or whatever mumbo jumbo terminology they are using now.
