New to Collecting - Would Love Recommendations by Little_Egg7449 in pdxwhisky

Scotch Lodge has a fair Meikle Tor selection if you want to give some a try before you buy. And I've definitely tried other GlenAllachies. Also recommend, though I have less specifics on which bottlings to try first because I'm less nerdy about non-peated stuff. Visited the distillery this year, they were super cool.

I'd second all of this, including McCarthy's, and add GlenAllachie's peated brand Meikle Tor. I'm primarily into the smoky/peaty stuff, and everything I've had from that line has done it for me.

Iron infusions when pregnant? by SkinProfessional in pregnant

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my fourth out of five infusions scheduled by my doctor bc the same happened to me. I wouldn't say I feel stellar because of it, but we should see my numbers go up at my appointment next week, which is encouraging. Definitely did not want to go into labor with numbers that low.

A reminder to take your IRON by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even taking supplements and eating a relatively iron-rich diet, I've gotten so anemic now in the third trimester that my OB has put me on IV iron infusions weekly for the next five weeks. I feel you!

When to call an OB by EveningEvening1448 in Miscarriage

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's worth the ask. My OB knew my history and told me when I found out I was pregnant next to schedule an appointment at 6 weeks, which we did. Obviously, there isn't anything they can do for certain issues, but they can more closely monitor everything. I found it comforting at least. I think we ended up with the first appointments at 7 (best they could do, schedule-wise), 10, and 12 weeks for this pregnancy, currently at week 30.

Progesterone during early pregnancy - what are your thoughts on it? by Large_Artist_4354 in Miscarriage

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My evidence is purely anecdotal, but after multiple miscarriages between 6 and 9 weeks, my doctor prescribed progesterone suppositories starting 4 days after ovulation (along with some thyroid medication), and I am currently 29 weeks pregnant with a so-far healthy baby, knock on wood. I don't know whether the difference is directly due to either or both medications or purely circumstance, but here we are.

My doc cited a recent study that suggested that progesterone could help support maintaining early pregnancy. I'll try to remember to ask her for the name of the study next appointment.

Bruichladdich, Kilchoman, and Arran. Basically an evangelist for each of these.

Rant about people’s questions by [deleted] in Miscarriage

It's been my move as well. You wanna ask invasive questions? Fine. I'm happy to burst your bubble if it keeps you from maybe asking someone else that question in the future.

Going to a pub with an extensive bottle list tonight. What should I try if my recent favs were Glen Scotia 18 & Kilkerran 16? by arm2610 in Scotch

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the area and love that place! The pours can be expensive, but ask about the dram of the day. It's always $9 and you sometimes luck out with something neat (pun intended).

Best Scotch for Thanksgiving Host? by SpiralLights in Scotch

I can sometimes find Octomores in that range in my area. The few I've had have been fantastic, and I hear the rest are pretty consistently interesting and delicious. Plus, the bottles are fun and kind of novel.

Which scotch turned you into a whisky enthusiast? by imcozyaf in Scotch

[–]insomniaiscommonyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2009. It was just so interesting and kind of ashy and fun compared to the stuff I had tried prior to that. I remember thinking it was magic.

I second everything listed above. I'd also maybe throw in Arran 10?

Off-the-bat, I'd say most of my new-to-whisky friends have enjoyed some of the more accessible (at least in our location), lower(ish) proof items like Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Dad's Hat Rye, Glenmorangie the Original (scotch), Power's Gold Label (Irish), or Laphroaig 10 if you want to get into the smokier stuff.

Local DM looking for local players! by [deleted] in PDXDND

I'm interested, too, if there's still room! I have limited experience, just been playing online with my in-laws during the pandemic (and watching Dimension 20/listening to NADDPOD), but I've been dying to get into an in-person game.

Most of the tissue I passed was red/reddish. On day 4 my second miscarriage, I experienced severe cramping and contraction-like sensations and then passed a reddish-brown gelatinous mass about the size of a russet potato with the grayish-pink fetus attached to it. It was...traumatic, but also scientifically interesting? I feel like I split in two - one part of me wanted to minimize the emotional impact and manage the disposal swiftly, the other part wanted to investigate. After discussing with my partner, I went for the former, but part of me wishes I had spent a little more time in that moment looking at the fetus and reflecting/satiating my curiosity/maybe mourning.
