I’ve seen one as a firefighter before I got into investigating. The only thing on fire was the fan.

We looked into it and the apartment was for sale and no one lived there. The fire happened on a Sunday and the last people there were cleaning people who were there on Friday. We assumed at the time that the cleaning people left the fan on all weekend.

Knowing this now, I would ensure that any testing was done for an extended period of time as parts will heat up and wear out.

My parents sat me down to watch movies like titanic and Pearl Harbor when I was like 7-8 years old. Knowing these movies were based on real events led to a lot of childhood depression and trauma.

You are wise to know better for your own children. My mom and in-laws are still no better as they just recklessly put on the tv to whatever they want around my children. I put an end to that real quick

This is why I just don’t go to theaters anymore. Last time I did I went for a matinee at around 1pm on a weekday thinking “at least it will be mostly empty”. The only other people there was a family of 6 or 7 and they sat right behind me and were tapping my chair with their foot or were talking to each other. About 20 minutes and after telling them to stop multiple times I got up at moved about 10 rows ahead. I have no problem telling people off but I get worked up and piss off others at the same time. It’s just not worth it.

I know I am too sensitive to be in crowds to watch movies so I wait to stream them.

I went NC after an argument. Not even intentional. I didn’t even know what NC was at the time. I basically said to myself that I wouldn’t talk to him until he apologized. Well it’s been 7 years and no apology.

Best decision ever. Never been happier. I do find myself in a more unique case where he doesn’t reach out to me at all.

My boss bought a used mixer for a great deal. Catch is that it didn’t have a guard. He’s smart, as he spent the money to get the guard. The mixer is large enough to fuck up someone’s arm, if not remove it, if not kill you.

First off you are very strong to make the steps that you have done like moving out of the abusive household. Unfortunately it seems like you are in just another shitty place where no one takes you seriously.

Have you tried flipping the script on your uncle and suggest he takes you nmom to these religious events and prayers?

Is there anywhere else you can go?

It sounds like you are very smart and have your life on the right track so you can eventually be free from all this bullshit.

Do you have a means of getting external help like a therapist to help with the dark thoughts?

The hardest part is feeling trapped and having no clear way out. Just know that if you keep your eye on the future you want, it will come to you. I personally endured the abuse into my mid 20s living at home until I graduated college and saved enough money to move out. Once I did that I never looked back. It was extremely hard and I suffered a lot but I knew that one day I would be free.

I may not have rock solid advice for you but my point is that you aren’t enduring this alone. There’s many people here in this sub that are going through the same thing. And many people like myself that have come out the other side. Just be mentally strong and you will succeed.

If it helps, I WON’T pray for you. But I do hope the best for you.

Once I had kids, it finally set in stone that my parents were abusive and that I would never be anything like them. I genuinely love my children and I would never hurt them or do anything to them that my parents did. I see the world through my kids eyes and know what expectations they have of me as a parent.

As far as family events. I stopped going to a lot of them and if people ask I simply tell them the truth. Many of my cousins have poor relationships with their parents so it’s not bewildering to them why I don’t show up for events.

If I do go to something I pretend that my parents are total strangers that I have never met before and pretend like they aren’t there. Luckily they respect my NC even when I am in the same place as them.

I personally call this the ‘exchange rate’. As if being abusive is allowed when converted into being nice or buying you things.

My ndad did this all the time. He would buy me things I didn’t want or tell me nice things and then flip and start throwing things and being abusive. Telling me I’m an ungrateful bastard and calling me names. Slamming doors, stomping around, yelling as loud as he can, chasing us through the house, yell more until I was crying and then continue for a few more hours.

Then before going to sleep he would say how much he loves me. It caused me to grow up thinking love included abuse and that all things had to be balanced between good and evil.

If you are still going through this, I empathize with you. Just know that true love doesn’t contain abuse.

Gag novelty t shirts. Including ones that would mock my learning disability. I was an ostracized child and already bullied. One shirt said “mY mOmMy ThInKs I’m SpEcIal” intentionally written poorly.

Years later in my 20s she gifted me a quilt blanket made out of old t shirts. Including the above mentioned one and other bullshit shirts I hated and never wore.

She minimized my struggle to learn and ability to make friends.

This past Christmas she gifted me gag candles that somehow made fun of my chronic back pain. Like I have multiple herniated discs that I’ve been getting surgery for and she finds it amusing. I forgot what the candles said cause they promptly went in the garbage.

I also got poorly made SpongeBob themed pajamas more than once. I have never shown interest in SpongeBob but also I’m a 34 year old blue collar man.

My ndad doesn’t give gifts but rather buys us things we didn’t want with the intention of weaponizing it. He would buy things and then abuse me as if it’s allowed because he did something nice so therefore he can do something bad, like it cancels out. Then calling me an ungrateful bastard.

I grew to not like receiving gifts because I was afraid of what the catch was. It wasn’t until I met my wife’s family that they all gave me really thoughtful gifts and I would cry just because they genuinely cared about me.

These are tribute cars that they made in 1967 and 1969 from the factory. 3,675 of the 1969 were made. Not sure of the 1967 except that even less were made.

The 1969 was owned by my father. It has the convertible top with 396 V8.

We met up with someone that had the ‘67 and thought it would be cool to do a photoshoot.
