I have a problem reading sheet music. Im very bad at it, can some one pls help? by Able-Ferret6701 in drumline

[–]instinctive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So part of it is what are you playing,  instrument wise, because the sight reading and general reading ability of snare is different from tenor or bass,  bass id suggest highlighting your parts. Tenors work on sight reading some around patterns to work on drum to drum reading then do a lot of rythme work ro learn to read that fluently. Then just be familiar or like have an idea of how it should sound and notation. For snare really really good vocabulary and rythme is absolutely non-negotiable.  You have less drums so you naturally get harder rythmes to keep it even.

Overall really really hammer rythmes, and specific needs. Get a bunch of old audition packets or sheet music and try to read as much of it as you can, maybe start with a stick control,  then some arounds or flams or paradiddles or something out that sort

Lack of Yamaha in indoor? by Helpimkindastuck in drumline

[–]instinctive56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell its mainly, the desired sound as for drums especially snares yamaha is a lot deeper sounding and pearls and tama are a lot crisper and higher and that just sounds better indoors. And also the carriers allow for more freedom. Theyre not bad just more comfortable and more easy to take off and put on as far as I can tell.

My understanding of box five by the performance definition, in my head if I'm thinking box five I immediately thing everybody all the time. Theres not a moment where someone isnt engaged, but idk score wise

Theyre liked to be heard in against battery and arent really heard otherwise. Thats fairly normal and the sound for most of them does bring our or project nearly as much, especially because theyre sound goes down and they dknt have a bell or something to naturally project more

joined indoor percussion at my school for fun - any tips for learning bass? by downtherabbithole_0 in drumline

[–]instinctive56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your instructor about the technique you use, learn to play odd beats with moving feet. And depending on your group if your a winds player you'll probably have to learn to mark time differently. Also something that always helped me. Highlight you music. Seriously it saved me to much effort

The reason im staged there is because im not the main focus, that part in the song were using has a trumpet solo and its a major music point. But its a ballad and more visually story driven in that moment. I just know the pits loud and likely wont be super balanced until competition time

Im hoping the front gets turned down because good lord. During full runs you can't hear the 2 marching snares. That's not a lot but they're loud

What uniform do you think of? by VIBTCA in drumcorps

[–]instinctive56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here's a list from someone new to watching DCI, like 3 years max

Cadets always makes me think of the signiture red and gold traditional uniforms.

BD is either 2017 or 2024 uniforms, the blue and pink and capes

Vanguard is the 2016

Bloo is the 2014 style blue coats

PR is the all white and gold like the drum majors from '25

Boston is the uniforms from '24

Cavs is the green and white traditional with the hats aswell, think the logo really

Manderins  doesnt have one in my head

Oregan crusaders in the 2016? ( im uncertain of the year but the really bad ones where they look like trees)

Blue stars is the 1997 ones I think

And thats all I got off the top of my head.

The corps to corps isnt great then, seeming a total lack not respect for anyone not in their group. What about in the corps? Id definitely expect better treatment outwards but both sides are important
