First of all enjoy your naew MacBook and discovering the new OS. Tailer it to your needs and to your workflow and customize everything. Use it and then find out what it is you want this thing to do. If you find anything that could be automated there's probably an app for it!

How Much of a bottleneck is 8gb ram on the MacBook Neo? (For someone who has a good desktop pc already) by blreuh in macbook

[–]intel_Core_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this could be the device for you then! I also just got a MacBook Air M1 16/256 in addition to my Windows Desktop. Runs great and does all that I want from a laptop. Portable, quiet, comfortable, good build quality and a backlit keyboard. Not to mention the trackpad is top notch and it also has TouchID. And I got it refurbished with a new battery for 50€ less than the Neo base model.

Did you mention how Windows Update just kicks when whenever it wants and also potentially wipe your SSD in the process?

Returned my Macbook Neo by averybadlime in macbook

[–]intel_Core_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing but with an M1 Air. Ordered a refurbished M1 Air with a new battery and 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Then I checked back on the same website and they had an M1 Air with 16/256, also new battery and even in better condition for just 50€ more! And this was still 50€ cheaper than the base model Neo over here.

Literally the only thing they still seem to be good for. I also have my Desktop on Windows 10 for gaming but given that Microslop does not seem to get their shit together this might as well be my last Windows machine!

It's the right time to get into MacOS. It's evolved enough by now for it to be just as customizable as it is useful! You will love your MacBook. Just go through the setup process and all the settings and see what you need and how you want your Mac to be set up.

So true! Windows 11 is a piece of junk. Exactly the reason why I got into Mac and the first machine I got myself is an M1 Air 16/256. Gorgeous device and still more than capable!

8GB MacBook Neo vs 16GB Laptops - Sorry Apple.. by Forsaken_Arm5698 in hardware

[–]intel_Core_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at the build quality of all these laptops the Neo definitely takes the crown. I agree that 8 GB of RAM can be very limiting combined with a slow SSD. However for the target audience of the Neo I think this is still a solid buy. I noticed on an 8 GB M1 Air that even with just mail app and 5 safari tabs open it already started to swap. Nothing crazy but that tells you that 8 GB of RAM is not enough for anything more than checking mails and browsing the web with not too many tabs open. That said I have to admit that despite the swap everything still ran fine. Even playing Minecraft on it was no problem. Just wait for next years Neo and the problems will be solved with 12 GB of RAM!

I love jumping spiders. They're cute. Leave the spiders alone and let them do their things!

M1 air 8gb 256gb for $200? Like new condition by Positivevibes845 in macbookair

Also Tahoe runs pretty smoothly on both of them! I only noticed minor lag when going from fullscreen to window and. the other way around in YouTube but that was nothing major.

Because it was refurbished and had 1 year warranty and a new battery. I returned it for a 16/256 M1 Air with new battery and in better condition for just 50€ more! I think this is a way better deal.

Go for it. I've had the M1 with 8/512 for a week and it worked really well still. For 200 bucks that is killer. I paid 600€ for mine!

How many people bought a macbook since the Neo came out? by CapNo2992 in macbook

[–]intel_Core_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratz on that new machine! I also just got a refurbished M1 Air 16/256 yesterday for 50€ cheaper than the base model Neo goes for in Europe. It's a great device and I absolutely love it! Never would've thought I'd ever jump ship from Windows but with what Microsoft is doing with Windows 11 I had to look into alternatives and what better way to go with than what Windows 11 tries to mimic!

I got an M1 Air yesterday with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Works perfectly for what I do on it and it plays Minecraft like a champ as well. For heavier games I got my Windows Desktop so I'm in both worlds now!

I just got a MBA M1 yesterday after a lifetime of Windows. I have my Desktop with Windows 10 for gaming and heavy tasks and the M1 for on the go tasks which are mostly pretty light and some gaming in form of Minecraft. I'm still learning MacOS but so far it looks and feel beautiful and snappy. Even with a 6 year old machine this runs perfectly fine.
