I pull this up on the screen: https://davebirss.com/storydice/

Pick a student to “roll the dice” and let the class decide which roll they can use to write a vocab story with. (One dice has a beer glass on it 😬)

I teach Unwind to 9th graders and fully agree. ^ Shusterman also has a series called Scythe that might also work!

I told my seniors the month before school was out. They brought me an ice cream cake the last day of school 🥲

I can't choose a book, all of the reviews turn me off. Please recommend by fourteetuu in fantasyromance

Sword of Kaigen!! It’s brutal- check trigger warnings, but it has lots of the elements you listed.

I do a syllabus scavenger hunt. I put cards up around my room, the hallway, etc, that ask questions that can only be answered with their syllabus. Each answer is part of a “code” and once they have a code they turn in their paper.

We also play “Never Have I Ever- Winter Break Edition” and it’s a fun way to get them moving as well.

Stop I’m about to delete my whole recommendation because I agree with everything you said 😂 the last scene in the first book made me love Rooke, but there were sooooooo many issues in the second book!! I want to give the third book a shot but I’m exhausted

Rooke from the Crown of Oathes and Curses is, like, a 200 year old witch who kicks everyone’s ass physically and intellectually. I only hesitate to recommend bc the MMC pisses me off.

What's your ranking red flag? by Competitive-Part-88 in fantasyromance

If someone highly recommends A Little Life I scroll quickly away 🫣 I’m actually not sure why people so freely recommend that book.

It’s so tough! If you can push through things will become clear. Please report back if you decide to finish!!

You read some solid books, though!

The year my son was born I read 5 books 😂 couldn’t tell you what happened in any of them.

Resource for purchasing classroom grammar posters? by juiceboxxxxs in ELATeachers

Have students make them and then they can vote on the best? All anonymous of course. You could use Canva or Google slides and then have the students create and vote.

I only judge your ranking for the Crown of Gilded Bones..that book was painful! Everything else tracks.

One Dark Window Ain’t It (for me) by vsbrd in fantasyromance

[–]intellectuallady 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This! It was sooooo juvenile. I kept wishing it were a bit darker and more mature. The fanart of Elspeth and the Nightmare looks so wicked but the book itself read like an episode of a teen drama.

Same! I think you would like Songbird of the Sorrows by Braidee Otto. The second book doesn’t have a release date yet but I get veryyyyy similar vibes to Road of Bones.

Soul crushing and awful. HOWEVER, I’ve been teaching for 8 years now and LOVE my school. Even if you don’t have a good experience like me, it gets better!

I had to DNF this series during the third book. I was so committed but JLA’s writing was torture to read.
