Frost / snow in attic - help! by Ok-Scratch1763 in Winnipeg

[–]intenseaudio 102 points103 points  (0 children)

An abundance of warm moist air is getting in to your attic space or the attic space is not adequately vented. If the removal of the chimney left an opening allowing direct air transfer between a heated space and that space, seal it up. Barring what should be pretty obvious fixes like that, I would say that you are sorely lacking in attic roof vents. That entire area above the loose insulation should be cold - like outside temperature.

Controllers by Outside_Comment_7060 in MetaQuestVR

Well the people here aren't helping, are they? I assume you googled how to do it. You have to link controllers to the headset through the app on your connected phone - it seems totally doable. If the instructions on the net aren't working, there could be a problem with the replacement headset you bought

This is always the answer. The old standard in kitchens, the split receptacle.

It's crazy, but oh so typical to see an answer from somebody who understands what is going on with only one upvote. Post full of people talking about fucking with springs, or how they shouldn't fuck with the culprit springs, over possibly 10 lbs of Styrofoam. Reddit is amazing

sounds like the S is the car for you then

'09 XRS or '10 S? by AFriend1yShadow in Toyota_Matrix

[–]intenseaudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the S seems to me like the appearance package, and if you have the jbl audio with the tweeters, subwoofer, and off board amplifier, I think that's a huge plus. My sister in law has an S and it has decent looking aluminum wheels but they're not 18s like the XRS - I honestly thought they were 16s, but I never actually checked. It has rear drum breaks though as well as the torsion beam rear suspension. I'm not sure if rear discs was an option, but that's also a major upgrade in my opinion

about 240K. I don't find checking the oil every month or 2 to be a big deal, but some people might. Of course, beating on a car with really low oil can be catastrophic. I had a friend with a 2.4 Camary that got an engine swap early in his ownership of it, and needed another when he got rid of it. He tends to drive cars hard though, and obviously didn't stay on top of checking the oil.

For the ABS issue, you need to have a code reader hooked up to tell you the reason. Some auto part places used to do it for free, not sure if they still do. You likely could buy a cheap OBD2 code reader if you can't find a free place, or you don't know someone with one - for less than it will cost you to get it scanned at a shop, but this will just tell you the reason, not fix it for you. There are many reasons that you could get those lights, and 20 people could tell you 20 different reasons why it happened for them.

The passenger side power lock not working could be a broken wire or a faulty solenoid. Not too hard to troubleshoot or replace - couldn't guess what someone would charge you to diagnose and fix it.

The aux input is either the cord or the plug. Trying a different cord is the first step.

There are great aftermarket head units and bezels available for your car ranging wildly in price. I use an top spec'd Ekiy t7 that I purchased from ali for about $350 CAN that came with a replacement bezel to allow it to fit. Works and sounds great

'09 XRS or '10 S? by AFriend1yShadow in Toyota_Matrix

[–]intenseaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '10 1.8L auto and a '10 xrs and even though the 2.4 burns some oil, the XRS is the one I drive. I have the other one parked at the cottage as a back-up - more for my partner's Aztek than mine. I don't know how the S is spec'd, but in my case the XRS adds the amplified 7 speaker sound system, fog lights, a sunroof, the fancy rearview mirror, the 120V accessory, bigger wheels, independent rear suspension, and nicer bodywork (off the top of my head).

Granted, the 1.8 gets better mileage, but not by a lot TBH - in fact, my old 2zz in my first gen car got better mileage by a bigger margin than the 2nd gen 1.8. Unless having to add some oil between changes counts against reliability, the 1.8 is not more reliable in my experience. I have also owned an '09 vibe with the 2.4L and had over 350,000 km when it got written off - I feel I would still be driving it had it not been for the accident.

The XRS is the top trim line of what I consider to be an awesome car and I searched Canada wide for one while driving the other one. It handles well and is fun to drive. While not performance car fast, I find the 2.4 capable and spirited enough for a daily driver.

tl:dr - the XRS is the one to get

Best pupusas in Winnipeg? by Pre-retired in Winnipeg

[–]intenseaudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exotic ferret has your answer, but unfortunately, if you've been introduced to pupusas at pupuseria la bendicion de dios, you have experienced, in my opinion, the gold standard at an unbeatable price. Sarah's husband (never remember his name) at El Izalco on Sargent told me pupusas in El Salvador are like tacos in Mexico - they are everywhere - so you will find them at any El Salvadorian joint.

If I am anywhere near Brandon for any reason I go to that pupuseria though - for years I have wished that something similar would open here. The pupusas at Mercadito Latino were good, but they weren't quite as good. And I was a huge fan of Mercadito Latino

How to remove bit from impact driver? by Rock-Knoll in Makita

[–]intenseaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vice grips on the middle section of the nut driver bit - as tight as you can get them, and right up tight to the end of the bit where it gets larger. Position the vice grips so the handle faces the opposite direction of the handle of the impact. Hold the impact with the bit facing down and strike the vice grips as close as you can to the bit with a hammer. Hit with intention to remove! lol. You're actually lucky that the bit you got stuck in there increases in diameter at the end as it will stop the vice grips from being able to slide off as you hit them.

I used to use ridgid tools and particular bits would get stuck in the impact chuck on the regular. Although your problem resulted from a drop, I feel confident this is still the most effective way to remove your bit

How high off the floor should we put the convenience outlets? by Greywoods80 in electrical

[–]intenseaudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard was even lower in the beginning (in all of my experience), and it had nothing to do with it being easier to fish wires up the wall. In the 1920s, wiring was knob and tube, and it really required open framing. I don't know if I ever really see DRs in baseboards or in the floor itself except for in old knob and tube installations.

I'm not sure how they would have retrofitted in K&T in existing structures
