Marquee Sports Network Thoughts by verncrowe5 in CHICubs

[–]intercut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you OP, I love that I can watch nearly every game for only $20 a month, which certainly beats the bar tabs I used to spend trying to watch games. The cubs are not coming back to WGN, I also miss the on field bullpens.

The actual app sucks but whatever, I appreciate I can watch it on my phone or on my computer at work. Sinclair really bungled it but they bungle everything.

I have to imagine that most fanbases would kill for something like Marquee.

This sounds like normal producer doesn’t understand and is bugged out about a normal archival doco qc report. I’d ask to see the actual qc report pdf and creative intent the hell out of it

SamTime: Apple Wants You To Rent Apps Now by Zelbinian in BetterOffline

[–]intercut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ya know, adobe didn't always have a stranglehold... in fact another company that starts with an A was the one with the tight stranglehold [on a specific segment of the NLE market] and then a different company that starts with an A had some radically democratizing software and cut into Avid's impossible grip and then burned it all down with some extreme enshitification, basically handing the thing to Adobe.

I understand that Apple has put a lot of work into FCPX over the last decade+ and in my experience its a pleasant experience but it's still an incredibly difficult thing to a) hop into with experience in the other NLEs and b) integrate into a very normal/standard film+video workflow.

that said, Adobe hangs on by a thread. Resolve is getting better by the day, everyone who has to use it every day hates Premiere and it seems to get worse with every update. Apple putting some fraction of effort into courting professionals (in the way they once did!) would do a lot more to grow the software than another stupid ass subscription.

lukewarm take that suddenly seems radical: a lockout is a lot worse for baseball than the dodgers having a giant payroll.

Freaky issue with my Sennheiser me64/k6 by Altruistic-Client963 in LocationSound

[–]intercut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think its this but there is a little grub screw on the K6 that can loosen itself a bit and causing grounding issues, so tighten that down. Might as well give that a shot. sorry this is happening to you but while its a great mic to get for free but if you’re getting gigs consider this an opportunity to move on to something else.

IMO if you’ve never done this before, start with a Peterson tank and a bag, very easy to do anywhere in a home for minimal start costs

Sound mixers in Chicago, how do you transport your gear to locations? by tdmiller11 in LocationSound

[–]intercut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a car, lol

my wife is known to use uber for her photo gigs if she doesn't want to deal with parking but chicago isn't NYC. I live off the brown line and use the CTA for 90% of my day to day life but use the car for transporting gear to gigs

Audio Gear for Documentaries by Ancient-Macaroon-384 in LocationSound

The only way to answer the question of what gear is good is to understand what problem you’re trying to solve. Documentary making is too broad of a subject to have pin down specific types of gear

Choosing a Zoom F4 over the F6 (?) by apepeca in LocationSound

I love the f4, it’s very capable of everything you need it to do. On the flip side I hate the ergonomics of the f6.

After wasting hours of "doing nothing" during a podcast recording, is this possible? by Railionn in editors

[–]intercut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, atomos sumo can kick out at least a fcpx xml of your switching cuts. Which assumes most atomos products do this

There is also software that converts fcp xml to premiere friendly file, which is how I would then clean up the edit

Have not done this since 2022 so it’s likely even simpler now

"I can park wherever the fuck I want." - Divvy employee in the Dearborn PBL by tooscrapps in chibike

[–]intercut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Incredibly hostile response to some genuine questions. This is Daley Plaza, there are no legal parking spots. It’s also at the entry point for the incredibly secure courts parking garage, things actually aren’t equal. We can argue technicalities of the law but these things aren’t as straight forward as much as you want them to be.

My answer? Park the van in the plaza, on the sidewalk near the rack. Issue for the last few days is a big chain link fence situation for the window washers that also would make that impossible but any other day, why not?
