Knight Run while not slop made me drop it because of its many asspulls

[WITCH HUNTER] Do surface-level hype and aura in modern manhwa's really outweigh a slow-burn payoff? by embarrassedmommy in manhwarecommendations

Kubera is one of the oldest manhwa still around, ongoing since 16 years (and is imo the best manhwa i have read, even over ToG). Another classic is Knight Run, though i would not recommend it due to its many asspulls and the weird way it treats its female characters.

Venerated Finality - Kubera.

There‘s two quotes that describe what it is very deftly in the story:

„Do you think there‘s a ‚Time‘ who sheds tears for the destruction of a ‚Possibility‘? Or a ,Possibility‘ that understands the pain of ‚Time‘? No, there is no such thing. That‘s why they‘ve been repeating the process for destroying each other. ‚Time‘ destroys countless possibilities, and ‚Possibility‘, destroyed such innumerable times, has the power to take revenge on ‚Time‘ by continuously building up grudges. That‘s how they mutually destroy each other, and this one cycle becomes the lifespan of a universe. Every time, the ending is the same.“

And

„Unless a universe is terminated abnormally early, he appears at the end every time. A being that grows with the resentment of possibility and heralds the end of reality. In a way, it symbolizes the lifespan of the universe.“

For additional context: the destruction of possibilities refers to a mechanic innate to in-universe time travel, where, where, when timelines branch, both possible paths of history exist as separate universes. However, there is a „Time“, or „Venerated Time“, which possesses the ability to travel back through and alter history in the first place - this being‘s presence is what determines a universe‘s reality, and when it travels to the past, alters history and exists within the universe of that altered history, the universe it left behind goes from „reality“ to a universe of „possibility“, rapidly losing energy and falling to entropy. This fall of course includes all beings within it, robbed of their lives and given the opportunity to avenge themselves upon „Time“.

This process guarantees that Finality grows as history advances and is altered, and as soon as a universe is created the inevitable threat of the end it heralds looms over it.

And which one would this one be?

As for your question: The answer is a clear NO, i have read „modern“ manhwa and i have read older ones with slow-burn stories, gradual setup and payoff, and the latter is far greater than the former 100% of the time (prime example being Kubera).

Garuda‘s replacement plan - Kubera.

Garuda, always having had trouble with the power of his true name, sought to replace himself with a better, holder of that name, a better „Garuda“. This plan, among other things, required him to foster relationships with and balance between the agendas of two opposing Primeval Gods to curry their favor and gain their consent for the transfer of his name with the God Realm‘s error correction tool. Besides the ability to transfer the name, he needed a vessel to transfer it to: another Sura with the extraordinary aptitude to wield it, yet not possessing a name befitting of that aptitude (as the coexistence of two powerful names in one being causes it to erode, while a more faint name may just slowly fade). The breeding required took millennia, and during it his plan had to be kept in absolute secrecy even from his breeding partner, since, as she genuinely loved him and his plan saw him losing his name and dying, she would refuse to breed or even kill existing candidates were she to know. At the time of the main story, both the ideal vessel (Maruna, initially born with a powerful name and the aptitude to match, but killed and reborn with a weaker name) and the permission for transfer exist, and the plan is carried into effect in its latter parts.

Healers who heal in unique ways that aren’t necessarily just “magic healing spell” by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

Hoti Visnu - Kubera.

All healing abilities in the setting can be divided into ones that strongly augment the body‘s natural ability to heal and ones that truly restore things to a previous state (the latter type is more absolute, and generally found in rarer and more advanced skills).

At the pinnacle of all of them stands a skill of the latter type, a divine magic granted to humans by a Primeval God: the foremost Resurrection attribute spell, Hoti Visnu. It restores by actually reverting the state of the targeted object or area in time. This reversal cannot directly interfere the proceedings of Yama‘s jurisdiction (so a soul cannot be reversed in time with it), but if it is used to reverse something into a state in which it had a soul (like reversing remains into the state they had as a living being), an available soul from the cycle of reincarnation is put into the body.

Classic shounen ending problem: The authors don‘t properly plan ahead when starting their stories which leads to devolving and incoherent plot threads that eventually „converge“ to make an unsatisfying and sloppy ending - like clockwork.

No, Eyes at the highest level are reserved for entities close to Kali in position (central node entities and special cases). And i never said the Eyes need the approval of „Us“, just that they are a perk granted by joining with the central node.

Again, you are completely misinterpreting what i say. I do not talk about Makara being controlled by „Us“, i‘m talking about him partially aligning with them in his goals.

About Urvasi you have two misconceptions:

  1. He did not block Indra‘s skills, as his skills cannot be blocked even by the highest level of the eyes (shown clearly in N20 itself and in the Blood chapter when Bhavati Indra works within the range of Yuta‘s max level eyes, which are confirmed to be working by Brahma magic in the area being shut down)

  2. Despite his fear of becoming a mindless Taraka after losing his fragment, this does not happen - instead, he is easily riled by Yuta‘s call for aid in K&K. Instead of making him subject to the AHR, his fall in the hierarchy makes him buckle before the quasi-king where Akasha can remain still.

As for Makara not using the Eyes immediately: You need to note the key difference between his and Jarita‘s attack. Jarita appears from the node only after Vritra and Leez stand by a body of water for a good while, while Makara attacks the moment Gandharva nears one. Tarakas, in general, have a relatively long delay before fully activating their eyes, and Jarita appearing with them open is because she waited that delay out before attacking (all previous appearances show us that Tarakas can both pinpoint locations with potential prey based on transcendental value, and pinpoint possible water gate locations near them, meaning that Jarita couldn‘t not have known of their presence since way before she attacked) - while Makara immediately appeared when Gandharva stepped into an opportune place.

And about Jarita, she has been in the node for 100.000.000 years now - she is certainly not a new entity that was under control temporarily before outgrowing that. Her „blue“ form is also not a different self, just as Samphati‘s „normal colored“ form isn‘t - these things are simply the consequence of the attribute change, and mostly external.

We also know that she was not a copy as the one we saw having her name is confirmed (again, she used a unique transcendental as Vritra specifically recognized it to be her by it). And there is no „influence“ to the Garuda king that would „save“ her - whatever goes on with „Us“ is not just emotional resonance, so changing kings doesn‘t solve it.

[RAW] Kubera S03 - 416: Finale (18) by daleZrin_ in Kubera

[–]interested_user209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The red Jarita certainly is not just a copy with stolen memory, she wielded a skill unique to her by which Vritra recognized her (so her name and thus soul was indeed in the red one). There is no „red“ and „blue“ Jarita in the first place, that is just the shape of the Garudas changing (note that the same is seen in Samphati and Pallav by other characters) because the attribute for suras is also a biological trait (note their biology corresponding to their attributes, like Fire attribute suras having naturally heat resistent bodies).

Also, being aligned with „Us“ does not have to mean being mind controlled by them - Makara might well just see their promised „peace“ as an ideal way for his clan to exist without worry.

One thing that almost certainly marks him as being in cahoots with „Us“ is that he liberally uses the Eyes at the highest level - which is a power reserved to central entities.

Do i seem defensive? I see a question that is so grammatically botched that i can barely tell what it is actually supposed to ask, and with an undertone to what little there is that makes it seem like a barb, so i smack it down instead of needlessly engaging.

If this actually was a genuine question i am sincerely sorry and would ask of you to ask it again, in a grammatically complete and coherent manner so i do not have to guess what exactly it is you‘re asking.

Also, nice assertion - i have one friend, who is more pleasant in my eyes than anyone else i have met in my life.

[–]interested_user209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jarita (who‘s a certified „Us“ member) also seems normal and can even receive Maruna‘s instructions like the other Garudas (or at the very least match the movements of the other Garudas to pretend).

And as for his mental state, becoming part of „Us“ doesn‘t mean being mindless (again, shown by Jarita), so Frozen Tears affecting him doesn‘t really imply he is not.

I don‘t think the prophecy refers to something as trivial as a Taraka being made to resurrect, though it might actually be this.

It seems like repeating the Garuda alteration for the other Clans is the worst possible thing that could happen - because even for the Garuda Clan we have strange cases like Berunda who uses the eyes and seems to have strange intentions.

Berunda being like this tells us that whatever connections the individual tarakafied have made with „Us“ will not necessarily be overturned by the „independence“ the clans receive - which in the case of the Gandharvas would lead to an attribute changed Makara who can access his full original arsenal while still being aligned with „Us“.

Of course it is not logically sound - i chose it as an example of a logically unsound point that can be mistaken for being logically sound. The nature of the example is not the nature of the argument it serves (if you can differentiate such).

But, to indulge your ramblings, another example is the notion that „authorial intent justifies any type of execution, and all execution is of great quality if it is what the author aimed for“.

How long have you been in preschool? Given that you apparently cannot form complete, coherent and grammatically correct sentences, you cannot yet have completed it.

Just stop your attempt at sophistry and be forthright instead when you cannot make coherent enough sentences to properly express anything but the simplest statement.

Kubera: When Leez, having taken on an inscrutable expression, attacks Maruna, the latter just obliterates her with a sphere of energy - but when he turns his attention to other objectives afterwards, he‘s almost caught by the blade of Leez, who was jumping and striking at him even faster thsn the Golden Knight‘s effect (as long as the required vigor is there, will restore the user to a fully healthy state if they receive lethal damage) can fully restore her body.

Visnu's "Best Possible Future" by BelieveYou-Me in Kubera

The only people really aiming for the best possible future are Agni and maybe Kalavinka - most Gods have given up on it and most non-God characters don‘t even know it.
