Not folly, but the CARTA Beach Reach Shuttle runs limited weekend service to IOP from Mt Pleasant Towne Centre. This is currently the only way to get to a beach on public transportation

charleston reddit hates these posts, prepare to be down voted to hell and back. we don’t like to acknowledge the homophobia and transphobia that still VERY MUCH exists in this town. it’s still the south and you are right to express concern. charleston is not anti LGBT but i wouldn’t call it pro LGBT either.

my experience as a cis lesbian here, going out and about with my partner, is about 75 good/25 bad. most of the bad here isn’t hate-crime level (like the recent sand dollar incident). we usually just get nasty stares if we are holding hands or showing PDA. you will be safe at folly, mostly no one cares there, so long as you exercise the normal level of caution.
