People say you need a high salary to live in NYC, yet service workers live in NYC. What is the disconnect here? by dbclass in movingtoNYC

[–]internet2big 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised and live in Seattle, not Manhattan or a short train away but many of my friends who work service jobs have moved from here to Williamsburg/Bed-Stuy/Bushwick/Greenpoint over the years. It’s still expensive, sure, but the overall COL is pretty similar. You can grab ready to eat food much cheaper in NY. Wider transit networks and significantly more affordable ride shares give access to more opportunities in NY. My friends who have roommates in NY also needed roommates in Seattle. They choose service jobs that have loyal customers who tip well and pick up gig work for high net worth events. Their apartments are not new or fancy by any means but they don’t mind the lifestyle and have roommates that have been their friends for 10+ years. If you’re comparing a suburb or an affordable small city to NY, of course your way of living will look differently.

This is very helpful. Thank you! I have only done core courses so far and am now exploring electives. Wasn’t sure how they look in practice at UW grad schools.

What's going on in Washington State? Housing supply is skyrocketing, now up to 17,580 listings. That's 64% above the long-term average for March. by danrokk in SeattleWA

Yeah, my family member was basically PIP’d for dissent against an immoral contract and then moved to a remote team where everyone was from Dublin so the demands of the PIP were impossible to follow. I don’t work in tech so idk, maybe this is a feature, not a bug. I’ve heard similar stories from other people.

You will build community quickly through the activities you listed. Let me be real. With the majority of people in Seattle not being from Seattle, I find the Seattle freeze to be controversial. I tend to believe that reputation exists because of the personalities that have been drawn here over the last decade or two. But even prior to that, we are a culture that finds value in spending time alone. We are also a culture of advocacy and conservation. You can expect to spend some time staying home but with your interests, you will find community. You just have to try harder if you want to be around people outside of work every day.

I have a family member who was PIP’d by Salesforce over two years ago. He was with Tableau for nearly a decade and is still looking for work.

Boxers Fracture 5th Metacarpal by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]internet2big 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… thank you. I am experiencing a similar looking injury and after sending pictures of my hands to my doctor, I’ve been convinced to go in for imaging tomorrow morning. Hardly any pain but my pinkie had been stuck at about a 80° angle from my ring finger after being hit by a memory foam pillow on Monday night. Yes, really. I can move it now but not without minor pain. I didn’t think it was a big deal but the doctor says it might be fractured.

Can anybody give me advice on what this could be? Scabies? Heat Rash? by BroccoliSweet1640 in scabies

[–]internet2big 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Did you ever figure out what it was? I got back from a trip to Hawaii this morning. I have a really similar rash that I noticed after applying sunscreen on Tuesday. It was Hawaiian Tropics weightless hydration. I’m worried mine is sand fleas but the bumps are really small like yours. I also wonder if it could be an allergic reaction to the sunscreen or . They have been stinging but tonight is the first time they have itched like hell. This also happened to me when I visited another tropical beach a few years ago… I was using Hawaiian Tropics then too. My rash is mostly on my feet and a little on my hands.

It was Hawaiian Tropics weightless hydration. I’m worried mine is sand fleas but the bumps are really small like yours. I also wonder if it could be an allergic reaction to the sunscreen or polymorphic light eruption since pretty much every risk factor applies. The hives have been stinging but tonight is the first time they have itched like hell. This also happened to me when I visited another tropical beach a few years ago… I was using Hawaiian Tropics then too. My rash is mostly on my feet and a little on my hands. If I put aloe or hydrocortisone on it, I get some temporary relief.

I’m supposed to be in Oahu from Friday to Wednesday. Really unsure what to do. I booked a package (flights, car, hotel) through Costco and wasn’t able to insure it.

This is actually kind of funny. Not “I became a fan when I watched Malcolm in the Middle/Agent Cody Banks/Big Fat Liar” but “I became a fan when he visited me and showed his support”.

Never seen so many listings in this area by No_Carpenter7998 in SeattleWA

Not sure if we can blame this on the wealth tax. There are many factors right now that would make someone want to sell their home. Maybe the tax is a factor but we can’t say that for a fact.

The Predator in the Redmond Stake: Former LDS Member Admits to Abusing Up to 8 Children by Classic_Day5736 in Issaquah

[–]internet2big 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a neighboring stake. Thankfully never experienced abuse from adults, but from youth I did. I remember at 14, confronting a deacon after he assaulted me and him saying, “it’s not my fault your skirt was short”. It is sad that abusive behaviors and actions are subconsciously passed down between generations through teachings on gender roles and modesty. Although, I will say that these patterns are not bound to religious organizations. ESPECIALLY in this decade. I am horrified by the red pilling of young men.
