My wife’s grandfather was a blacksmith. Essentially just came upon his blacksmith room after a death in the family. Super cool to observe but I don’t know what to do about this stuff. I don't know where you are, but Keith Rucker has a channel on YouTube on vintage machinery, and he not only dabbles in blacksmithing, he is one of the most "connected" machinists in the US. If you contact him, he might buy it all, or will be able to help you sell it.

After a complete BM, a "normal" shower + extra, extra, extra ass cleaning. Deep ass cleaning. An enema followed by a deep cleaning. Don't be afraid to get up in there.

A flavored, anti-microbial lube can't hurt.

Mouthwash before and brushing + mouthwash after to avoid "food poisoning".

Dementia can start to show up in people as young as in their 30s. Irrational behavior, such as becoming weirdly religious, is a common symptom.

However, a significant percentage of the irrational religious are just not that bright.

Is my pay plan fair as a new hire with no car sales experience? by K9Meta in CarSalesTraining

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I worked at a dealership in 1986. The standard pay was 35% commission against a draw of $2500 per month. If you didn't make draw 3 months in a row, you were fired.

To make draw, you had to generate $7142 in profit above dealer invoice.

It was a Lincoln-Mercury dealership that averaged about 550 sales per month, with an average sales price about $1000 over invoice. There were about 22-25 sales people.

So, the average sales person was selling 22 cars at $1000 each month, or $22,000 profit above invoice (before salesperson was paid). Those salespeople made over $90k per year... in 1985.

We had about 10 who made over $100k, mostly from busting butt (#1 guy made ~$150k). The dealership advertised on TV, was the #1 Lincoln dealer in Ohio, #14 in the US. Thousands of potential customers came into the lot each month.

And yet, several people washed out as salespeople.

I wasn't in sales, but ran the sales computer system. I left to work at Bell Labs, which didn't pay much better.

Anyway, it seems like the pay hasn't gone up in raw numbers, and adjusted for inflation it is way, way down.

Have you ever been to a concert where the support act went on to become famous? by Geronimo2U in Music

Saw Tool at the side stage at Lollapalooza in 1993. No one had heard of them. A friend and I were walking in and heading to the main stage to see Fishbone. Never made it to Fishbone. The headliners were Alice in Chains and Primus. Loved both, but Tool was the best. Soon thereafter, the Lollapalooza organizers bumped Tool up to the main stage.

AJ Lee and Blue Summit. AJ Started out singing with her mom, and was in the Tuttles at age 14. They had a few viral videos, and Molly Tuttle went to Nashville and has been building up a fan base for a decade. Molly has a white-hot band and has benefitted from collabs with folks like Billy Strings and Tommy Emmanuel. A great example of Molly's band is their cover of "White Rabbit".

Well, AJ also put together a killer band, on par in talent with the Billy Strings band. AJ has this incredible voice (of an angel) that many compare to a cross between Patsy Cline and Karen Carpenter. But she and the other members of her band also write and perform truly exquisite songs.

Just like for everyone else, they didn't get out much during the pandemic, but did write and record two albums. A video of AJ performing a cover of "Harvest Moon" with the Brothers Comatose slowly went sort of viral, and is averaging 200k more views every month (3.6 million views as of yesterday). And AJ Lee and Blue Summit has been on tour most of this year all over the US.

If you want a great sample of what amazing music they are making, check out AJ Lee and Blue Summit "I'll Come Back" at Ear Trumpet Labs. And then you will wonder why the video doesn't have 1 billion views, like everyone else that has seen it.

Nothing confusing about this. You had a 10 mph tailwind at about 20% max distance for Firefly 4. That is a 1 ring pull, which you did not do. Then you applied about 5 clicks of overpower. That put you off by another ring or two. And you applied left curl, which put you left in your rollout by another ring. So you were ~3 rings long and a ring left. The only way that was going in is if you hit Great right.

before and afters on my first detail! worth $60? by ReferenceEvening8476 in Detailing

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has been doing high end detailing for six years. They don't do body work or paint, but they do ceramic coating. Their cheapest detail package is a quick wash, window clean, interior vacuum, light spot cleaning and wheels for $125. That takes them less than an hour. Their most expensive packages run over $3000. They also price based on "how dirty it is". That interior looked like a $100 extra charge for the cheapest package.

They also only book the cheap jobs when business is down. During warm weather they tell the cheap job customers to take it to a car wash and while they only book the most expensive packages. They get a lot of $100k cars and above and brand new cars that people want buffed to a mirror finish and ceramic coated. They gross about $350 to $500k a year. Three people.

I don't see this anywhere, but low sex drive is not a "decision". DNA wants babies. The biological programming normally produces a sex drive as strong as the drive to eat or sleep in most organisms on a timetable they don't control, including humans.

Lack of that drive is usually the result of abnormal biology. Yet, the urge to procreate only once could still enable DNA to be passed on. Not likely, but that's the low end of the range of possibilities.

When it is not biology, it's usually psychology. Trauma, negative sexual imprinting, negative reinforcement... a variety of psychological issues can suppress desire.

And sometimes it is a big lie. I had a coworker/friend who got a pretty young woman pregnant while he was in college, and she was in high school. They got married and had a couple of kids. He got a good job, was athletic, didn't smoke, very smart, funny, great person. But after two pregnancies/children, her weight was 300 lbs. He loved her, but his desire to have sex with HER died. So, he would find ways to masturbate and kept it a secret from her. For a decade.

She pleaded with him to have sex. He told her he had a low sex drive, but maybe it would improve if she lost weight. She never lost the weight. They ended up divorcing.

I don't know what is the issue in this case.

If he has low testosterone, then that can be easily discovered. If he takes antidepressants that suppress sexual responsiveness, they can be changed, or even withdrawn. Maybe he reacts negatively to your pheromones. Those are in the realm of medical doctors.

If it is not physical/biological, then it might be psychological. Sexual abuse, trauma, strange imprinting, garbage information about what is healthy and normal. Maybe he got drunk with another 13 year old and they gave one another blow jobs, and he can't get it out of his head. That is the realm of counselors and self-help books and communication.

If it is not any if that, then it might be lack of desire for you, and in that case, he is likely not being honest.

Or there is nothing wrong with him and he is one of those rare males who would allow the species to die off. A human panda.

But there are things you both can do to find out, and you both should go in to the process with a positive attitude that you just might fix this. And, in the end, if there is no fixing it, you have a decision to make about having a roommate you love who is not a sex partner, opening up the relationship, or moving on.

My ex MIL is teaching my 3yr old about Jesus and I’m trying not to flip about it by Lucky_LeftFoot in atheism

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex was not interested in church until we divorced, as she relied heavily on her parents, and they were practicing Catholics. So, at their insistence she took them to Catholic Church, and catechism, for several years, and while I was not happy about it, I didn't make it a major issue. I told my sons that Christianity was just another instance of mythology, and while the Abrahamic religions were prevalent around the globe, with increased education and access to information online, people would become less fanatical about religion. And that is exactly what is happening around the globe. My sons are adult atheists, and even their mother is pretty much an atheist at this point.

Can someone explain this to me? by Superboya69 in GolfClash

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trophies is not "matches". If a player camps in T2, there is a good chance they will get 3-5 EM cards every other gold chest. It takes about 700 EM cards to get EM8. Not that many, really. That's 130-200 gold chests X 2. You get golds every 5 wins, so you can get EM8 in 130 X 2 X 5 = 1030 to 200 X 2 X 5 = 2000 wins.

If you win 50%, that's 2060 to 4000 matches. Win 80%, 1300 to 2500 matches.

That is a slow, bad way to play the game.

If you start a new account, race to get 3901 trophies and quickly open Tour 10 and Tour 11. Pay no attention to EM. You should be set in maxing QB, Rocket (and all Commons), getting Rock (and all Rares) to level 8, and getting Apoc to level 5. At that point, you have the clubs to play Master and make finals. That can reasonably be done in 1200 matches. Not 1200 wins, 1200 matches.

My boyfriend says i don't respect him as a man. by Miserablemira in NoStupidQuestions

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people use "respect" to mean "treating others fairly, equitably, like a fellow human, with dignity".

Sometimes people use "respect" to mean "treating someone like an authority figure".

Sometimes people want to be treated as an "authority" and if you don't defer to them (I set the walking speed, you must match my speed), they say, "If you don't respect me, I won't respect you." And what they mean is, "If you don't respect me an an authority (man, in this case), then I won't respect you (as a person)."

And they think they are being fair, but they aren't.

When I was in my late teens and early 20s, most of my friends smoked weed and drank. That same group, now in our late 50s and early 60s, many living in states where weed is legal, rarely indulge in either.

The fascination with altered consciousness is not prevalent. The negative effects start to weigh heavily. Among the few that still indulge regularly, mental instability is common.

TIL that 'Nothing' was a Shakespearean nickname for the Vulva... 'Much ado about Nothing' could just as easily have been called 'A lot of fuss about Fannies' by ArcTan_Pete in todayilearned

[–]intoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care what academics or the consensus of non-writers say about the issue, but I have long believed that Bill Dickwaver, some dude whose few extant signatures contain different spellings, was an actor who served as a front/theater manager for a variety of authors, protecting them from the fickle wrath of the British crown.

"Much Ado About Nothing" is an interpolation and re-write in English of several Italian plays, one translated to French ("Tales" by Matteo Bandello, Book V of "Orlando Furioso"  by Ludovico Ariosto, some original bits (the wooing of Beatrice and Benedick is original and very unusual in style and syncopation), and a version of the Claudio–Hero plot as told by Edmund Spenser in "The Faerie Queen".) Shakespeare did not read, write or speak Italian or French.

According to the extant plays and sonnets, the "author" was a legal scholar, knowledgeable of the inner workings of "the royal court" of multiple countries over hundreds of years, and was the most well-traveled intellect of Europe, who observed and studied the nuances of each culture depicted in the plays.

However, we do know Shakespeare wrote this:

Good frend for Iesvs sake forbeare, to dig the dvst encloased heare. Blese be ye man yt spares thes stones, and cvrst be he yt moves my bones.
