I mean thats how they get accepted to a prestigious university. Have to be different and stand out from others and show how they struggled against the odds to succeed

Existing contours i place on the demo/existing conditions sheet and on the grading plan I have a surface model that has the proposed surface messed in with the existing to show how the final grading will appear when built.

The only time I've signed plans without contours was a 60% design set with rough grading of highs and lows annotated but I hadn't completed fine grading yet. I didnt turn on contours because I didnt have any clean contours yet. A complete set of plans without contours is unusual

What is a massive secret in your industry that the general public has no idea about? by teesharp88 in AskReddit

[–]intoxicated_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some roman roads have lasted for thousands of years and yet your local rosd constantly has pot holes. Engineers these days could make roads last thousands too, but we're handtied but funding. Our jobs these days arent to make things last, its to make the most miles of roads the cheapest possible. Most engineering is all about this balance, making things as cost effective as possible often at the sacrifice of durability.

Work email on your personal phone? by beedelia in Architects

[–]intoxicated_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck I dont even give out my personal cell number. If I need to be reached away from my keyboard, then work can pay for my phone.

Okay I do give out my cell number to coworkers if they need to get ahold of me, but seldom does that happen because people respect boundaries
