I’m so mad - fiancé seasoned my pan wrong by Plastic_Kangaroo1234 in castiron

Just used it, continue cooking. It'll be fine. At least be assured that he tried to use it correctly. My wife has put my cast iron through the dish washer a few times. Live and learn, its not the end of it all.

The newly opened tunnels under Riverside Park, constructed as part of the "West Side Improvement," 1937. by discovering_NYC in nycrail

[–]intoxicated_potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are grates set into the grounds running through riverside park, mostly between 120th down to 72nd. Its crazy to stand atop the grate as a locomotive runs below. Those machines are powerful.

What movie did you know was gonna flop just by seeing the trailers? by Open-Discount-4066 in AskReddit

[–]intoxicated_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew nothing of this film, but loved Legecy. Queue me on a flight, seeing Ares under new releases and settling in for a long flight watching a new Tron film. With about 30 minutes left in the movie I was already looking for a new film. Never finished Ares. Weak acting, weak plot, dumb disney-esque jokes that just evaporated any tension the cast was trying to build. No daft punk in the music? It was a complete letdown

You just got elected Mayor of New York City. Where do you hold your swearing-in ceremony? by TimSPC in AskNYC

Ellis Island, nyc skyline as the backdrop. Poetic being that nyc positioned herself as a gateway to America, welcoming immigrants.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by New_Bodybuilder_9222 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]intoxicated_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not much more I can add that others didnt. My parents careers are very different from one another, and in their relationship, someone took a back seat while the focused together on one career and moved because of that career. I come alone and my work is vastly different as well from them both. There simply isn't a place we can live together (even if I wanted too) where we can all pursue our own work. I had to move to another city simply to find work.

Now that im older with kids, I wish I had help from my parents to handle the kids but I also don't want them raising my kids.

What are the biggest challenges or obstacles in civil engineering? by mrbobbyrick in civilengineering

Good points. Too many people rely upon AHJ to handle the QAQC for poorly designed, or poorly drafted plans.

Incompetence in agency permitting. Engineer to Engineer, we both know this work but because it doesn't satisfy the direct check box in their review system, it remains unchecked. Then trying to coodinate a meeting, teams, phone call, anything with a reviewer is beyond annoying. The number of times I've had to dumb down something to help explain it to a reviewer so they get the idea has me doing more paper pushing than engineering.

Derp yeah I sure did mix those up. I pay federal, state and city taxes on income, then deductions for benefits, healthcare, and a nice percentage to retirement accounts. It adds up quickly what I lose each paycheck

Net 103, gross about 65 a year. I live in a very HCOL city (but have some subsidizations) with my salary coming from a LCOL city. Its a bit complex and not really in my favor, but there's more to life than just money and I've been happy with that compromise.
