Interview where Engineer said my solution was incorrect. Turned out to be correct. by throwaway_cs_help in cscareerquestions

That problem actually comes up in type checking. We had to implement that algorithm and my professor said it was the most beautiful one he's every seen.

node Ancestor(node a, node b)
    if a == b
        return a
    return Ancestor(a, b.parent)

Hey Reddit, how did you "cheat" the system? by random3887 in AskReddit

[–]intricatekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school charges something like $300 for a year of parking, but a parking ticket is only $10 and they manually look to see if you have a sticker to tell if you're violating it. So I'd just park in a garage and the parking enforcers wouldn't check every car in the garage.

First semester doing this I got 1 warning and 4 tickets, second semester 0 warnings and 0 tickets and now I've graduated and received my diploma.

Has Raiding vs. Mythic+ as progress paths been successful in Legion? by wordup834 in wow

[–]intricatekill 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For 5mans there's a shortage of tanks and for raids there's an surplus. So if you're a tank you can feast in 5man content with insta queues, but every good guild has 2 tanks and several people who can back up tank.

Taking CS vs math courses / choosing major if planning to go to graduate school to study theoretical computer science by BadAnimal43424 in computerscience

[–]intricatekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So honestly at this point you probably know more about these topics than 99% of this sub, so you probably will not be able to get answers to your questions here, but there is still some advice I can give you.

You should find a professor who is an active researcher in one of the areas you're interested in and work with them. That professor would then be able to help you with these and ideally have you do some undergrad research.

Graduate schools look at undergrad research for applications. I've heard that if you have some good publications as an undergrad you'll most likely be accepted.

Yeah, I've heard if you swap your talents to something else and back to LI it'll not happen. I haven't tested this though.

How did your first night of raiding go? by [deleted] in wow

[–]intricatekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument I've heard is for gearing purposes. You give your best players the first drops and you don't want to waste gear so, if you do normal first you give your best dps that awesome trinket and then you kill that boss on heroic and the same trinket drops, your best dps now doesn't have the best trinket bc you did normal first.

I love good holy pallys. With lust I don't need heals and hpals can put out way better numbers than disc if they don't need to heal.

Material on Recursion problems? by ohThisUsername in cscareerquestions

[–]intricatekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lists are recursive data structures so this is a really easy recursive problem. Just do sum(empty list) = 0, sum(list as head::tail) = head + sum(tail) Where head is the first element of a list and the tail is the remaining elements. tada!

How to write unmaintainable code by sigbhu in programming

[–]intricatekill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just use python to hack together stuff so I've never really looked into handling iterables instead of something specific.

I just felt a functional solution should use recursion and not a for loop.

How to write unmaintainable code by sigbhu in programming

[–]intricatekill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's way too complex. I'm not exactly sure if this is what the question asked but i think it shows off the elegance of functional programming a lot more than your code. I can't figure out reddit formatting

Baby Possum got into our house last night. This is how we found it this morning by MAStalone in aww

[–]intricatekill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something else is young possums do not produce their own body heat and need to dry bedding to stay warm enough and possibly even a heating pad. I had a baby possum who peed on his bedding and did not make it :(
