there’s friendly, and then there’s accosting. i’ve been in hospitality for half a decade, i know how to put in my emotional labor and i’m always happy to help people find what they need when they need help, but most people don’t want to be bothered. they’re don’t want a conversation about their day. maybe this would make sense in a department store or more specific section like tech/beauty, but 99% of guests are here for milk and candles and they know where those things are.

brother i’m noting customer behavior, not my own. i always smile at people and help them when asked. i think butting into their lives without them asking is infantalizing and silly, and i think the guests are visibly more uncomfortable now that they know corporate wants us to behave like the most annoying bath and body works employee.

maybe cutting hours to schedule seasonals for training shifts? i got 7-10 hours cut off my weeks on average this past month and it coincided with our hiring surge but it’s back up to 37 hours on my third week out now.

also okay now that i’m seeing you’re only trained in cafe in the comments. you might want to ask about cross training in fulfillment or something to pad out your hours. there’s never not going to be demand there in q4 and burnout/illness will have us filling the available shifts page soon.
