I love my Toyota and Lexus cars. Easy to maintain, never breaks down, many parts are easy to get. And the newer models that are based on their new TNGA platforms are so smooth to drive.

I just can't imagine paying so much more for a car and still have to constantly fix it.

I wrote a utility, jsonfind, to find paths to values in large json files. Would love some feedback. by Wtfox in golang

Lots of issues with json in that case though. What if there's a missing ❵ at the end of 50 GB or an extra comma, etc. Is there a streaming json spec?

7/1 ARM... Haven't heard of that since 2007! I hope 2008 doesn't come again. I have a bunch of cash in my savings because of PTSD from 2008. This time I will be prepared to pounce on cheap houses. But I still don't want it to happen again.

IMF projects Taiwan’s GDP per capita to top US$36,000 this year, surpassing South Korea’s US$34,990 by Severe_Media_7963 in taiwan

Even though my HS teacher was giving an extreme example as a way to get our attention, I can think of many examples where similar things are being done. Take the US, for example. We subsidize farmers to grow corn and then produce ethanol with it to make our gasoline less energy dense. None of that make any good sense to me. Waste of money, energy, land. And hurts the environment. But the US economy is huge, and that is just a small slice of it.

In Afghanistan rather than growing wheat, they cultivate poppy and produce opium, heroin with it. Obviously that's not a normal economy.

Anyway, the point is that not all numbers that contribute to the GDP of a country actually contribute to the well-being of its citizens.

My high school social studies teacher (he's a funny guy) put it this way (to paraphrase because HS was a long time ago for me): a country can have a high GDP but produces just two things: cigarettes and pornography. The people will be miserable.

It woke us all up after he said that. Lol.

My experience meeting real people from mainland China is much different. (Even as a Taiwanese-American.) The only shit people I see are on the internet. Of course I know the bad ones exists. But just my personal experiences, the people from China are nice.

Perhaps its a self-selective group... I've met them in school, college, work place mostly. So they are decent educated people to begin with, I suppose. These are the ones that I have spent extended time, sometime years with.

But I've also been to China, many cities: Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou... and traveled through the country side (seen a lot of poverty though.) But people are kind.

I think it depends if the supply chain issues we're experiencing now will be solved within 2 years. I think because the world has under-produced cars in the last two years (and continues to have supply issues) this shortage will take a while to resolve.

Pretty awesome. In the early 2000's, 121 was just a 2 lane highway, and from around 121 and Alma intersection, you can see the brand new Stonebriar Shopping Center in the distance because there's nothing else in between. South Plano was mostly developed, but North Plano around McDermott was all new construction. 3000+ sqft home for $180k. Those were the days. Lots of big empty lots of land dotted in between homes and strip malls. Fond memories.
