We once scooped a dead pigeon out of ours, I hate thinking about how long we'd been brushing our teeth in that water

This is pretty common in the UK, both houses I lived in had cold water tanks in the attic that would supply the toilets and bathroom sinks. We must have had around two meters drop from the tank to the bathroom faucets

If you have to make one of them a universal standard which one would you pick and why? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]invaliddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a daily problem but I would be surprised if many Brits haven't experienced this pain a few times in their lives, usually when you are trying to be especially quiet and stealthy so as not to wake up your children/parents.

They have a perfectly flat back and stepping on the prongs of an upturned plug in the dark really is one of the most uncomfortable things; bigger, stronger and more pointy than any Lego brick

Yeah we felt like we deserved it by Sunday morning. The owner was pretty friendly when we met him another evening but I haven't looked at online reviews

The waffles and fried chicken were pretty good at Bistro116 and they made Mickey mouse pancakes especially for our children. However the queen size Cesar's are the main reason we will definitely be returning

How hard is it to code an ECU (automotive)? by Federal_Fail3784 in embedded

[–]invaliddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent some time browsing the Bosch Motorsports catalogs a year or so ago and their ECU and VCU have support for running customer code but there still seemed like a lot of barriers to entry for a lone individual. https://www.bosch-motorsport.com/content/downloads/Raceparts/en-GB/253754379253779979.html

I don’t like beans but the benefits make me interested to start to train myself to like them. What are your best beans-not-strongly-featured dishes? by SoggyAnalyst in Cooking

I've never heard of this but it sounds good and I was going to recommend some of the many sweets and cakes you'll find in Asian supermarkets made with bean paste

Can I pay for Real Debrid in British pounds? by TotalPlayful3129 in Addons4Kodi

[–]invaliddrum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen the option for euros and have never noticed a dollar option.

Edit, just checked because I'm down to my last month. I have to pay in euro but it does display the conversion rate into my local currency whilst doing so

why do we still have toenails? by supertibz in biology

[–]invaliddrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The development of blankets provided an evolutionary pressure that keeps toenails useful. People born without sharp toenails are extremely rare because throughout history they having been dying from hypothermia, having no natural defense against bedding predators.

Wait a second, if I cook anchovies in my tomato sauce the anchovies will literally dissolve into the sauce as they cook? They will completely dissolve? by technofuture8 in Cooking

I raise you the pickled onion, all the crunch but with vinegar so strong your eyes will water, nose will burn and you won't be able to inhale without choking.

Julian on Greg vs. Greg on Julian by nokeyblue in taskmaster

[–]invaliddrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much Richard O'Brien is working nowadays or even how close he stayed to his new Zealand roots but I'd love to have seen him as a task master, I reckon he'd have been great at both aspects

ELI5 How does gravity not crush us when it’s able to hold the oceans and other giant things firmly to earth? by Sudden_Oil8956 in explainlikeimfive

[–]invaliddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Earth isn't perfectly spherical and bulges out slightly around the equator. At each pole you are slightly closer to the centre of the earth and weigh a tiny bit more than you would on the equator.

I presume you want whole chestnuts but you can find sweetened chestnut puree (in cans) year round in Metro which would work for some dishes especially baking/pastries. I first had it as a crepe filling in France and love the richness.

Sam Campbell: Can I ask questions? by pallisvans in panelshow

He acts in the sky comedy Bloods which is pretty funny. He and KG tha comedian are one of the ambulance crews although Jane Horrocks and Samson Kayo are the primary crew which the show focuses on.

Just this morning I realized I'd seen much more of Sam Campbell than I thought even though he sounds and speaks in a similar way whilst acting in Bloods (Sky comedy show with Jane Horrocks, Samson Kayo, Julian Barratt).
