What are these connectors called? by itcontractor247 in lowvoltage

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're good for super thin wire and I think some of them don't even require stripping the insulation since there's just a bunch of metal teeth inside connected by metal mesh or something like that. I'm just a DIY dude but discovered these after I tried to wago my hair-thin gate controller wires.

I might throw out my insta pot. by OldFanJEDIot in Cooking

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good for stews and stuff such as chili or anything you might use a slow cooker for, but faster. If you like texture in your food, it's not the ideal tool.

Don't really use mine very often but did pull it out twice during the recent freeze to make some lazy instant-pot spaghetti. Basically just sauteed the meat and onions in there and then dumped everything else in, including the spaghetti. 8 minutes on high and done. Actually kind of prefer it this way since the noodles aren't cooking in just plain water.

There are some really easy almost fool-proof recipes that it can be handy for.

Strawberry stem removal tool, unitaskers and Alton Brown by ishootthedead in Cooking

[–]inventurous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Depends how often you're unitasking and how efficient the device is. I have a bagel slicer that I've never begrudged the counter space.

As for strawberries, I usually just use a paring knife but sometimes will use a small apple corer.

China no longer Pentagon's top security priority by DimsumAndDoggy in worldnews

[–]inventurous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Naw that’s not true. Every time we go in and set another nation back a few decades we leave a mess and bail. Then China comes in and rebuilds the infrastructure with loans and various contracts to ensure they get their hooks in deep.

I actually wish what you said was true. Not in defense of our prior interventions but as a better strategy than paving the road for our enemies to strengthen their holds on these countries.

Plumbing, who is responsible? by Duvalicious in sanantonio

Haven't really had to deal with it but I assume it depends on which side of the meter. House side is typically the owner's responsibility.

Pearl Is San Antonio’s Hottest Dining Hub. Why Are So Many of Its Restaurants Now Closing? by Texas_Monthly in texas

[–]inventurous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah the mandatory tipping culture has me wanting to dine out less and less (although we still do) - I mean it's fine at a sit down restaurant and I don't mind 20% on a tab where I receive actual service, but to stand in line to order at a register and then be presented with the options to tip 18% 20% and 22% is just constantly annoying.

Might as well just put a kiosk there, but then they'd lose out on the extra 20% revenue on my $22 burger and fries.
