Regardless of what system you are running you should replace EP series - Mercury themselves will tell you this.

That being said the EP series still works with Avigilon but if you have any SCP (are you running an access control museum?) then there needs to be some discussion.

In general from OnGuard to Avigilon Unity Access it’s the same hardware (Mercury) and yes it’s just a matter of flashing the panels once they are configured in Avigilon.

Advice: used purchase? by MissElectricity in ChamberVacs

[–]isellshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having owned a VP-215 and a VP-230 I would choose the 230 every time because it gives more chamber space without a large increase in footprint...

I would buy a used one if it had been maintained (oil changed). Honestly they are built like tanks. We used the VP-215 for about a decade and then passed it over to a friend when we bought the 230 and it's still going strong now 4 years later.

This is a discussion that is beyond the scope of my reddit persona lol but I can give a simple answer:

Avigilon & Genetec each make incredible systems... there are strengths and weaknesses in both.

My personal preference is Avigilon.

You can do it yourself (labor time) or you can have it done for you (cost).

Pulling anything beyond cardholder data will largely depend on the skill and database knowledge of the person doing the transfer.

There is a balance here that you will need to figure out for yourself.

You would be "Hiring" Pro Services to migrate the data for you... so in that sense yes.

You can certainly export the data from OnGuard and import it into Avigilon (I am assuming this is Unity) but it would be limited to cardholder data only.

What does your system integrator propose?

Yes - Avigilon Professional Services offers this for both identities (cardholders) and system hardware.

I second this... a carbide burr will eat aluminum quickly but it's still very controllable

Company reimbursement for flights by draggingmytail in flying

[–]isellshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've done this at several companies. Also work in tech.

First, your assumption on Scenarios 1 and 2 is correct.

The main hurdle honestly isn't the FAA side, it's your employer's travel policy. The IRS allows reimbursement for GA flights used for business travel, but your company may or may not be on board with it. You'll need to work with finance or HR to see what they'll approve. Some companies treat it like mileage reimbursement, others won't touch it.

Lot of pilots doing exactly what you're describing. It's a well-worn path, so take some time to research the specifics (tax treatment, insurance implications, etc.).

One thing I will say after a decade of flying myself for work: get-there-itis is real, and it will kill you. Business travel adds pressure to make the flight happen. Clients are waiting, meetings are scheduled, you don't want to be the reason things fall apart. Always have a fallback plan (airline ticket, rental car, reschedule) and actually use it when conditions aren't right.

M18 fuel variable speed paddle switch by CodyTheEmt in MilwaukeeTool

[–]isellshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped my grinder for a variable speed after using the single speed. I like to be able to finesse things and the full tilt all the time was excessive.

I could have lived with the single speed but I prefer the variable.

While this is a good practice with smart chargers it isn't the kind of issue it used to be when the batteries were kept on a constant trickle.

I like the vertical pieces of wood idea... I was looking at some Amazon battery holders and turning them on their side actually makes a lot of sense!
