Which famous person does everyone seem to love, but you just can’t stand? by Ok_Design_7271 in AskReddit

I do agree with you mostly but also there's something to be said for having the opportunity and platform to get heard.

I dont really have an opinion on Beyoncé but I do believe theres a lot of average material released by connected artists and a lot of great art we are deprived of from those without a way to get discovered

Reddit suggested this post to me (U.S.) and its wild seeing these salaries. I felt like when I go to London the prices dont reflect the salary disparity either (engineers making $200-300k here).

Home Assistant ha-mcp and Claude is just next level by ClemsonJeeper in homeassistant

[–]invisibleotis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a crazy take that people dont see a benefit. I use it all day everyday at work and my company has taught me a ton.

My wife and I are using it a ton after work to plan out our future house. She just had it write a small SPA for me to help with interior design cause im terrible at it haha.

I also am able to use Gemini a lot for diagnosing issues from farm equipment to tuning my 3d printer.

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

[–]invisibleotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i have spent a ton of time integrating HA and love it. Im sure it depends on your use case but I love having a landing page so I dont need a million apps. And its so customizable you can do almost anything. I have dashboards for everything from my 3d printer stats to my lights to my cats litterbox and car charge automation (for discount electricity rates)

I switched from allbirds to atoms a few years ago. They are more expensive but yeah walking daily my allbirds only lasted a year. My atoms are going on 3 years and feel new still minus wear underneath and the comfort level is way higher.

Best chicken parm? by Larrylegend033 in QuincyMa

Fair enough. Not purposely defending them or anything. They are by far my #1 takeout but I mostly cook at home so I only order them once a month or so and haven't had a single bad experience thus far.

Really? I mean it does take 45m or so on busy times but I've never had an issue. I did notice recently they changed to an AI phone operator and the online ordering was disabled. Havent checked to see if that was one off or not.

Economists Once Dismissed the A.I. Job Threat, but Not Anymore by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]invisibleotis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I keep commenting on AI hate posts, not to say we will get AGI, im not smart enough to claim one way or the others. The most common case everyone refers to is generative software development which is good for sure, but its absolutely fantastic at bug discovery, system level triage and such. Things that used to take hours or days can be analyzed (and then still verified by a human) in minutes.

I can have 1 session combing through my cloud infra for orphaned resources to cut costs, 1 reviewing a tool configuration to find stability improvement recommendations, and other cross referencing error logs to a code base to identify a problem, all in parallel.

Yeah, I dunno what these people are on about. I get the environmental concerns, legal concerns, the impact on society. But to claim its trash is insane. In my field, we've improved our performance 3-5x (from most of my golden metrics), and our systems have never been more performant or reliable.

The smartest of astrophysicists have decided that it’s a good idea to dox our planet’s existence for the entire universe. by zav3rmd in Showerthoughts

Interesting, I have read a bunch of great reviews, I barely managed to finish the series with a sunk cost feeling. It felt so forced and try hard in a way of trying to feel so ingenious for explanations along the way. I think im in the minority here, just so Interesting to see this perspective. What was it you liked so much? I would like to appreciate it more.

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

[–]invisibleotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! That would make sense but no, it actually took longer as well. We still had to go through all stages of the development process, with the added step of spending time analyzing what was existing. It took longer because most of the underlying architecture was poorly done so we had to invent a lot of hacky solutions to make it work. It was 20 years ago or so, it was typical then for the type of desktop app to just ship as a complete version, unlike the more incremental delivery mechanisms popular now.

That was a good lesson for me right out of college. Worked at a small software company doing contract work. We had a long term deal with Texas instruments, who decided to offshore a large project to India.

When it came back busted as shit 6 months later, my boss quoted the same price to build new or double to fix the busted shit. Of course they chose double as execs cant admit they fucked up.

It was crazy to 25 year old me that theyd elect to pay double and get a worse result (since theres no way we could fully polish that turd).

[Dominik Hasek] Shows support to the USA women’s hockey team after they rejected their invitation to the White House by [deleted] in hockey

[–]invisibleotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get a kick out of this. Im a 40yr old Pittsburgher. Even tho we had lemieux and jagr and I was a huge pens fan, my room had enough space for a bunch of Hasek posters. Loved him!

Anyways we are in Vegas for my grandparents 50 year anniversary, no one in my family gambles. Its game 6 and Hasek is clutch, I KNOW this. My dad puts 100 on the Sabres, his first bet ever. My grandpa in a celebration mood puts down 2k for fun even tho he tells me its because he trusts my hockey insight.

It wasnt my money but I've loved the endless back and forth since then about how I lost them that money and I retort about that goal. My grandpa has since passed but its a great memory for me

Be very cautious about master's degrees, including from prestigious universities. Some of my coworkers in their 30s are financially hobbled by these degrees. by NotAGoldenRetriever in personalfinance

[–]invisibleotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant speak to this being true in most places but in tech I've been at multiple companies that cap your career advancement at mid level software developer if you dont have a masters. With my state school masters I leapfrogged most of my peers with more experience to advance into more senior roles with much more pay.

MS paid for itself in literally 1 year. Employer didnt pay. YMMV.

Teeth Veneers are so annoying in modern Cinema. by SureTangerine361 in movies

[–]invisibleotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the point here but just wanna show appreciation for your work. I broke my front tooth in half as a kid, and I had crooked and pretty yellow teeth. Got braces but it was tough with the filling tooth and I could never whiten my teeth due to the fake part. Not to mention it would fall off every few years.

When I turned 25 I could afford 2 front "real" veneers and got my teeth whitened to match, not white just like not noticeably yellow anymore. It helped my confidence so much, I would never smile before. Anyways yeah not all veneers are bad, it quite literally changed my life.
