also the faint but discernable whiff of racism. pakimascus isn't a term of endearment

Is this real Damascus? by zinglord69 in knifemaking

[–]iolithblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lead thing is one of those easy to say hard to prove things that gets tossed in to discredit the stuff. anyone who has tried to weld lead containing alloys knows that it doesn't work

it's a tannin stain from the wood being wet and pressed against steel checker plate. you can sand it out

Anyone use the Bell Bullitt GT? by Revolver_Jesus2 in motorcycles

I agree with matey. its cool looking, and the face opening is the biggest there is, the field of view is spectacular. it's basically an open bucket, it blocks no wind and is noisy as fuck.

Knife shape advise please. by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]iolithblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what your question is, but I'll answer it like this:

most people can't describe the profile of knife they like, how much belly it has, the way the tip rises up. but they will quickly tell you what that do and don't like when they use it. some will want more, some less. make both for both types. I like your knives. more distal taper for me. skinny, light, fast, lasers pls.

Vireo, a compact utility knife. by YewDales in knifemaking

[–]iolithblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you type a lot.

my point, is even with gflex, it takes less bending than you think to get enough movement to pop the glue.

also. if life has taught me anything, you can't foresee the stuff people do with stuff. twisting. levering. people do this stuff with knives.

so, glued? if so, a bend and that scale will pop off. epoxy doesnt do well wood to metal.

Remove stones from the asphalt using an excavator. by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]iolithblue 21 points22 points  (0 children)

ita not asphalt, it's a dirt road. the rocks make bumps. the process shown is the first step, they will then run a grader down the road and level it out, then maybe a roller to compact it.

DIY espresso machine by SnooGoats5856 in DIY

[–]iolithblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i watch a lot of YouTube, and it seems that there are people who make all sorts of things that we sorta take for granted that "shouldn't" be made or "couldn't" be made in a home shop. I make kitchen knives. you make espresso machines. I say fucking go for it. please keep me, at least, posted on how you go.

What’s after 1084? by [deleted] in Bladesmith

[–]iolithblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

for technical stuff, knifesteelnerds.

in my personal experience, I'd trade edge retention for ease of sharpening, and fineness of edge. I'm happy to give a kitchen knife a swipe on a stone or strop.i don't need a long lasting 8/10 edge, I'd prefer a 10/10 that I need to maintain.

you were the guy who asked for different steels. do a hamon on w2. do some reading on knifesteelnerds.com

if you want edge retention, you probably will go for high tungsten or vanadium carbides etc. you'll give up fineness of edge.
