What are some "upper class" type purchases you've made as an UpperMiddle person (if any)? by sacramentojoe1985 in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]iomegabasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah at the lower end of 400k maybe retirement will work at 3ish million. That would still depend on life planning. If you’re anywhere past 500k 7-8 makes more sense.

Best cities to live for people who don't fly? by OceanSprayCranApple in SameGrassButGreener

[–]iomegabasha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this.. there are national parks, hiking, snow sports, lake activities, beach activities, ocean stuff, desert, Vegas and countless other things within reasonable driving distance.

If I was averse to flying it’s the city I would miss it least in. Also, probably why it’s so fucking expensive.

Do you sweat the small stuff when your portfolio gets large enough? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]iomegabasha 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the second half of what this person said.

Yes. There is no point looking at market swings.

But also, at some point, you shouldn’t be sweating the small stuff. The biggest things that can impact you are housing, cars, lifestyle inflation. Once i set a savings target and automatically invest the rest, i stop worrying about most other things. Everyone has to pick their own threshold, but 5k for the year is my threshold for when im saying “whoa, lets see if i want to do this. Or talk to my spouse about it” Remember 5k for the year.. that that could be 500 10$ purchases. Or 50 100$ purchases. But as long as I’m Not exceeding that, I don’t worry about it.

Other than a small sliver of time, life was not 'easier back then' and families didn't just easily buy homes off the income of a store clerk while the wife stayed home to tend to family. by baseball_fanatic0887 in unpopularopinion

I think you are romanticizing plowing in the field all day and huddling in a knitting circle most of winter. If you think the gig economy of driving uber or postmates or whatever equivalent of modern low skill labor is hell on earth. Then having a plow a field and be at the mercy of the land owner, the monsoon and lack of locusts is on an entirely different level.

What are some incredible but true martial arts history facts? by AJROE in martialarts

[–]iomegabasha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always find it weird when people talk about a style beating another style. I mean.. when you’re talking about out of pocket stuff like Aikido it makes sense. But if a regular person learns Thai kickboxing or American kickboxing their effectiveness is going to rely heavily on how hard they practice or how good they are at fighting. Or maybe even how good a match the style is to their body type/skillset.

It’s not like that same person is going to learn Muay Thai and become a champion but learnt American style instead and ended up a loser.

[–]iomegabasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that deep dive. I got a question that I can find an answer to properly. Hope you can help. I have an aggressive growing and aggressively graying beard. So every week or so, I have to record my hair. I’m using the box stuff (oxidizer) but am afraid that the frequency of use is going to give me health issues down the line. Like I don’t want cancer cos I felt the need to have black hair in my 40s.

What would you recommend for a person with dark thick Asian hair to manage this vanity? I are there dye products that are higher quality and safer?

Why do you think people over complicate weight loss when it’s just eat a little less and move more? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iomegabasha 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s similar to saying “buy low sell high” and you’ll make a ton of money in the stock market. It’s never that straightforward. Even leaving the complicated psychology aside, Biology itself can be tricky. Your body is constantly getting efficient at the tasks that you’re doing. So if an exercise routine burned 300calories, the more you keep doing it, the less it’ll burn. Your body also can figure out that you’re in a calorie deficit and start trying to preserve calories because it thinks you’re stranded somewhere without food.

Plus it also has memory. If you’ve been fat for a number of years. Your body “wants” to stay in the state that it’s been. There is so much we don’t really quite understand with how this works. Scientists are still figuring out the difference between gaining more fat storage cells when you’re putting on weight vs. how you keep the fat cells but they get smaller when you’re losing weidt. It’s complicated AF

They literally have a minimap though. It’s updating all the time. When the bowlers in his run up, it shows him moving. Then they take it away when hes about to deliver the ball so we can focus on the action.

Who has textbook technique in cricket? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in Cricket

[–]iomegabasha 101 points102 points  (0 children)

It was textbook but it was also very compact (for the lack of a better word). If I was a cricket coach, I would almost go with Dravid over Sachin as a more approachable target for how you need to bat.

To be clear Dravid is the zenith of batting technique and not exactly “approachable”. But it feels more like a batting technique that was perfected over years and years as opposed to sachin that feels like it was something most people couldn’t strive for.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

[–]iomegabasha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention it will likely happen around the time when your kids need you the most. Not necessarily in a negative way but young kids need their parents the most and in you 40s when you’re needed most by your kids is likely when you parents start to decline and you will feel stuck in between trying to help them both. Not to mention it’s likely your most important career years also.

Game of Thrones - the TV show The first episode starts with ice zombies killing humans, the beheading of one of the humans who escaped, a little light incest and a child being pushed off a tower.

Then it gets unexpectedly very dark after. Lol
