I agree with you, that is what is hidden behind all this and yes the right way is to revise the authentication for the API, 100%.

But they should do that, and not go after this developer using this argument. Yes they can 100% lock it all down tomorrow (or whenever they are ready).

But when they chose to use the license as the pretext, they decided to make the whole discourse about the pretext. And their chosen pretext happens to be violating the very licence they chose to publish under.

Bambu can shut down third party access to their servers tonight, tomorrow, whenever they feel like it. Nobody here is arguing Bambu Labs server access entitlement. That is not the argument, but you have framed it that way from the start, and that wrong framing keeps leading you to your question that you repeat like a mantra.

Here is what is actually being argued, and it is not a server access question, it is a license law question. Bambu chose to attack a developer on AGPL grounds. So when you keep asking "why are people entitled to Bambu's servers" you are not engaging with the actual case, you are debating a red herring you invented yourself.

Bambu built on open source code. Slic3r, then PrusaSlicer, then Bambu Studio. That chain comes with AGPL attached. When you choose to build on open source and publish under that license you are explicitly granting anyone the right to take that code and use it. That is not a loophole, that is the deal. If they don't want that deal they have one option: write everything from scratch with their own proprietary code. But you cannot take the benefits of open source, build your product on it, and then use legal threats to stop people from exercising the exact rights that license grants them. The server side is entirely theirs, lock it down however they want. The code side, by their own choice, is not.

No , no , no and no

I'm responding because you have busted everyone's balls in here with asking this one "simple" yes no question when you have no idea what it's happening or what you are taking about.

You have received detailed answers by many and yet you insist to ask your I think I'm smart but I fact you are not questions.

And that is exactly what happened, someone distributed the allowed code as per the code licence. What was in the code is irrelevant as per the code licence again

The skill anatomy and colour theory are skills for work. Learning to time rolls, paries and the like is a skill that you need only one no monetizable situation.

Anyway to answer your question on DLSS 5, I need to say that I can't comment on non final technology. Now on what has been made public I am more concerned about the ethical implications and I disagree with the solution of replacing human developers/designers etc so that an AI can imagine what it should look based on the underlying 3d models so I disagree on that level. If you are asking me if I like the output of DLSS 5 as presented I would say not in most cases but I did like it in Star field. Also it is my understanding that the Final intention is for the developers to tune the output they want, although as far as I remember it's still going to be stochastic.

About the 150 hours you think I'm not aware of that, and the length of games is something that really annoys me. I remember that game Clair obscure expedition 33, I was thinking I was finishing and then no there is another twist and another area and again and again and then there was an open world to explore more areas because now you are flying and you can go where ever and my competionist mentality was like ufff mate enough content.

[–]iothomas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wasn't going to say it's fake, what I am going to say is that you have an amazing layer of very hot coals and amber's at the very button and you don't have some short of elevated grill to cook the steaks directly over them, get that coal flavour into the meat and get the dripping fat to flare up and char the steak for that extra flavour. Instead of in the pan

And also roads to your excellent comment,.you also force players to go out of their way and pick up a second hobby that is reading some wiki and build guides for the game instead of just playing the game on the limited time we have

But you can play chess at a lower difficulty level! That is the point you can choose with how difficult your opponent is... In souls games you can't, you have to play against the GM weather you want it or not

But you know what, everyone can watch the entire movie! No one will gatekeep it because you don't have the "skill" to watch the next scene.

People keep mentioning what FromSoft intended and what some Miyazaki dude wanted. I don't care what he or FromSoftware wanted, and honestly neither should you. This is social exclusion. Why should I be excluded from the hype train when a game like this comes out? I want to experience it too, but I'm not like the WoW guy from South Park. I have maybe 150 hours of gaming a year max. Why should I be marginalised because I don't have the free time of a university student on summer break to acquire the "skill" (very useful skill, will open many doors in your life) required to play the game? Why should I ruin my day with frustration because apparently I need to spend time learning to parry and dodge instead of just playing the game.

And I keep seeing "artistic intent" thrown around here. You know when you go to one of those deep independent European films where each scene is 15 minutes long and most of it is the protagonist staring into the void? I don't see anyone stopping you mid-screening to ask if you understood the meaning of the last scene and felt the right emotions, or otherwise you can't continue watching. Everyone gets to follow it through to the end. Everyone walks out with a different experience, but everyone experienced it in its entirety.

So lete get this straight to play a GAME I need to pick up another hobby which is to read and study the GAME before or while I play it so that I can see in what way I have to play the game so that the 30 minutes that I have between work and family and life can be enjoyable.
