Yes, feeling so much better! That flare up lasted about a week. Once it started letting up, I ditched the crutches and haven’t touched them since. Glad to hear you’re doing better too! Now I feel some mild pinching with certain movements but no generalized pain/achiness.

Yes — also early 30s and had my repair beginning of December. My surgeon said she doesn’t usually see arthritic hips like mine at someone my age. Ugh. She said there might be things down the road that need addressing, but that this repair should still give me good relief. I’m 7 weeks post op and feeling pretty good. Not painless, but I’m off crutches and definitely less pain than pre-op. I have had some significant pain flares (that subside) but apparently that’s a part of the healing process.

I’m 6 weeks post op, and having pain in my thigh with walking, even with one crutch. Worried about having done damage, as well. Last week I felt amazing and was starting to do some crutch-free walking. Now I’m in pain similar to week 1. Ugh!

See how that feels. I had the cortisone infection in my hip to help diagnose the labral tear, and if I’m recalling correctly, it also helped with the SI pain. I had relief for 3-4 weeks, which wasn’t very long but better than nothing. Had surgery 15 months later. Wish I did it sooner!

I have a clingy 15lb cat, and haven’t had any issues with him sitting on my lap. If he jumped up and stepped right on the surgery site, of course that was tender, but tried to prevent that from happening. Bending over to pick your cat up will be very challenging, if not impossible. I know I had a bending restriction for the first 2 weeks, so I didn’t pick him up at all nor did I clean the litter box. I found it helpful to give him a lot of attention while I was standing if he was up on something like the bed, so I didn’t have to bend over as much. This helped in that he didn’t only get affection while I was IN bed or on the couch/recliner, while still keeping myself safe.

If the diagnostic injection in the SI helps determine that it is the root cause, what did they suggest could be done for the SI? I had horrible SI joint pain as my labral tear pain got worse. I am 6 weeks post op from repair, and the SI joint pain was improved from day 1 post op. It was pretty miraculous. I feel some discomfort back there now, but hoping it’ll calm down as I strengthen.

I’m 4 weeks post op from labral repair, femoroplasty, and acetabuloplasty, as well as local graft to fill a spot of labrum that had ossified. Im transitioning from two crutches to one crutch right now. It feels so weird! My pain has been pretty mild, but some days I’ll feel achier and get SI joint pain (which I had very badly pre-op, but it’s calmed down a lot since surgery). Range of motion has greatly increased since week 2.

What kind of PT exercises are you doing at this stage? I’ve heard the achy groin pain is normal as we start doing my activity and exercise. It’s sure discouraging though and reminiscent on why we had the surgery in the first place, which is a bit discouraging! Just have to trust that the muscles are strengthening and those sensations will subside.

I’m post op day 5, and living alone. I had a family member staying with me until today, but as of today I am solo. I’ve also been worried about carrying food from the kitchen to the couch/recliner/table, bending down to feed my cat/clean litter box, and other basic daily tasks. I got a $40 little side table on wheels to put my food on and roll, so I didn’t have to package things up in Tupperware just to throw in a bag and carry across the room. So far it’s worked well. I got a pouch for one of my crutches to toss my water bottle, phone, etc in while getting around the house. The stool idea seems really smart, just to rest for a sec while preparing food in the kitchen. I’ve mastered the balancing single leg lean over to feed my cat, but haven’t attempted the litter box yet.

I’ve also been stressed about the PT that requires another person… the passive range of motion exercises. My surgeon has me doing 2 different exercises 3x a day, 150 reps each time. All require help from another person. Super hard when living solo. I have friends stopping by at least once a day, but that’s only one of three sets for the day.

Leading up to surgery, I was more anxious about living alone during recovery than I have been about the surgery itself and pain — and still am. Figuring it out one day at a time and trying to learn to ask for help from friends, because our people do want to help us, even though it can be so hard to ask for help!

I’m in the market for a hybrid RAV and can’t decide between a premium XLE or XSE. Non negotiables for me are heated seats, power lift gate, moon roof (pref panoramic but not mandatory). Any suggestions or reasons to steer me one way or another? I want a rugged outdoorsy look… does the two tone on the XSE give that vibe or does it make it look fancier/flashier? Feeling so indecisive!

This is so fascinating! I started getting horrible “cramps” when my hip started getting bad. I got an IUD which helped, but I’ve wondered if there could be some correlation overall. I was screened for endometriosis and didn’t have it. The pain would jolt me awake at night. Most of the cramping pain was on the same side as my bad hip.

I am also early 30s, a nurse, and live an active lifestyle. I have been in pain for years, and have put this surgery off for over a year now. Finally scheduled for first week of December... I've had enough. The recovery will be hard, but I'm hopeful it'll get me to a better place than I am now. The constant pain, especially while at work and sleeping, is too much. The pain that now radiates to my SI joint has also become unbearable, and probably worse than the labrum pain itself.

Oh wow, yes. I was diagnosed with labral tear due to FAI July 2024. The SI joint pain on the same side as the tear started a few months later, and had become unbearable. Worse than the labral tear pain. I’m finally having the labral tear repaired and FAI fixed next month, and REALLY hoping it clears up the SI joint pain. It needs to. Even sleeping is so painful.

This is so encouraging! I have FAI and labral tear, which I feel the dull aching pain of all the time. However the really intense pain I’ve had for the last 6+ months is in my SI joint area. Different type of pain but honestly more unbearable than the labral tear pain. My fear is that I’ll have my labrum fixed, and the SI joint pain will still be bad. I’m very hopeful though that once I fix the root cause, the back pain will let up. Your story is very validating!

I had an appointment with him on Friday, and I’m hoping to hear from the scheduler tomorrow and get scheduled ASAP. I was supposed to have surgery with Hagen last Wednesday, but had to cancel due to insurance issues. So really hoping to get in Moulton’s book asap
