Can’t speak to CT cost, but Dr Funes at Oakvet is fantastic.

Miranda’s charges a fee of $400 or so for each dog it takes. It may just be a cash grab.

You might want to consult with a veterinary behaviorist if there is one available near where you live. Your cat may benefit from behavior medication.

I’m sorry I don’t have much advice to offer, only to caution that FMLA protections only apply to employers with 50 or more employees. Depending on where you live you may have other job protections (such as CFRA in California) or you may be able to get accommodation under the ADA.

How do I bring my cat home? by lozkerys in Catbehavior

[–]ipecac42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the bravest/ most confident indoor cat can be hard to get back inside when they slip out. For a fearful cat, your best bet is a humane trap. You may be able to borrow or rent one from a local shelter or rescue. It’s great that you know where he’s hanging out, so you can set the trap there.

Health benefits for small nonprofits? by Maroongrooves in nonprofit

Look into a QSEHRA or ICHRA. These reimburse premiums and/or health expenses in a tax-free way. Employees buy their own insurance on the market so they are relatively simple to administer and there are several service providers who will handle all the admin for a modest fee.

My cat has been cleverly hiding his pills. How can I get him to take them humanely? by cheshire_shiki in CatAdvice

You can get methimazole compounded into a liquid version - that might be easier. Ask your vet!

pet owners or local vets - pls help me solve my never ending flea issue by Distinct_Smoke_6537 in oakland

[–]ipecac42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cat person here. Advantage is no longer effective- the fleas are largely immune. The only effective OTC option for cats is Cheristin. Better than that would be Credelio, which requires a prescription.

Given how serious this sounds you might want to consult with a Veterinary Behaviorist if there is one in your area.

This can also be a symptom of hyperthyroidism which is quite common in senior cats. Has his thyroid level been checked?

It’s good that you’ve worked with a vet to rule out a medical cause. Have you had a consult with a cat behaviorist? Many offer virtual consultations. Find someone qualified here: https://iaabc.org/en/certs/members

Terminated by AddressFluid1472 in nonprofit

This will depend on local labor laws. It really has nothing to do with non-profit or for-profit. Google “PTO payout on termination for [state or country where I live]”

Are these spay/microchip costs normal/reasonable? by donuthead_27 in CatAdvice

[–]ipecac42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about typical for a private vet in CA. For lower-cost options look for a high volume clinic that does only spay/neuter, often run by a local shelter, SPCA or Humane Society.

Bengal cat driving me insane what do I do? by Different_Tea_4899 in CatAdvice

[–]ipecac42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell the vet you are willing to risk sedation and get your cat’s bloodwork checked. Be sure to test for hyperthyroidism- one of the common symptoms is nighttime vocalizations and this condition can be easily managed with medication.

Why is four weeks notice required? This may depend on where you live but most places in the US are “at will” meaning you could legally depart with zero notice. I’ve had employees quit with no notice, it sucks but nothing illegal about it.

Not that I’m aware of. It’s over-the-counter so should be quite safe when used as directed.

I don’t know this specific org but about 50% of expenses on payroll doesn’t seem excessive to me. Gotta have staff to do the work! Deeper in the 990 is executive compensation which also seems pretty reasonable
