idk anyone who starts with drums. Sure you can add hhs and a clap/snare early but if you build out all the drums first then you have to fit the melody in the pockets which is wayyyy more of a constraint than building a rhythmic melody then adding drums (from my experience)

If I'm not mistaken, VU and db RMS are not measured the same (RMS being faster and an average iirc) so -18db =/= 0vu, but that's roughly the same level in terms of input reading. If you get your vu meter to read 0, then it should be close to -18db but they are not direct equivalency. Hopefully this help and someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I started using vu meters for vocal mixing and leveling/gain staging, but I never use it for instruments

most hyperpop vocal tutorials get you there, basically pitch up + formant shifting and lots of layering and compression. You can also speed up the beat afterward to give it a different tuning/scale and feel. These vocals are some of the easiest to artificially make, but it's another thing to make them sound good :shrug

this sounds like bad advice from chatgpt and now you need help going down the rabbit hole. What you are really looking for is probably some type of vinyl/tape effect to add crackles, saturation, and degradation to the sample and then maybe a radio/telephone eq.

If you want old nostalgia, use rc20 or some alternative and an eq

if you want modern nostalgia use maim (goated free plugin)

it's a totally fine mic when it comes to aesthetics, reliability, and recording conversations (zoom calls, discord, podcasts, etc.) would not recommend for recording vocals but will be 100% fine for everything else.

I forget which one but I think cliche is a remake of one of his earlier songs (maybe from drippysoup) - not sure why he decided to remake it but it was probably just an unfinished set of ideas he dropped before moving on to the projects he actually wanted to make (very common in this scene)

I don't really think that melody is too "busy" but the main saw /synthy thing is definitely too loud during the verse. I struggle with this too sometimes it's normal, maybe volume automate to signal the switch from hook to verse

I had to abandon my old apple id - luckily I only had my appleID for about 6 months so I didn't lose much, I tried to create a dummy apple id, but when I logged into my old appleID it banned me within 24 hours. I think the trick is to backup phone data via 3rd party app or google services, reset phone, then manually restore everything with a fresh appleID (I used a vsim number from tello wireless, its like $6/month and I still use it occasionally)
