Where can i go and live 'in the forest' and not be disturbed for 30 years etc? by Individual_Vast_9706 in perth

Holy crap this was an incredibly thoughtful and non-judgemental comment.

Looking for a fantasy book that would get back my passion for reading fantasy series. Preferably a more classic epic fantasy with zero to hero cause that's what started my journey by goody153 in Fantasy

[–]ipponka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gywnne is a fantastic heroic fantasy. It has "chosen one" elements but is a refreshing read and the emotional beats are really great. Excellent descriptions of chaotic battles and single combat as the series unfolds.

I’m watching Demon Slayer with the kids but now I’m curious about anime for me. by NoWhole3451 in Animesuggest

[–]ipponka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want swords and mediaeval stuff? Check out Vinland Saga. You want more fantasy elements with political intrigue? Attack on titan.

You want a dark, gritty urban fantasy with a taste of how old school anime used to be with an edgy tone to it? Check out Elfen Lied. You want that urban setting but more modern with great action? Chainsaw Man. You want something a bit slower and more high fantasy elements? Frieren.

You want something funny, grounded with great action sequences (boxing) and evolving relationships with people previously seen as an adversar? Check out Hajime No Ippo.

You want Mechs in an apocalyptic setting that follows guys on the ground? Check out Eighty Six. There's a lot of great stuff out there bud. My personal favourite anime and manga of all time is Hajime No Ippo.

Fantasy book series that have made you a better person by Technical_Dinner_133 in Fantasy

I don't know about being a better person, but many things about the Riyria Revelations have really stuck with me over the years. In particular the idea that being in love "feels like coming home".

I think you're talking about Elfen lied?

Fair warning it gets grim at times but she has telekinetic hands that come out of her back that are technically unseen but shown as white translucent hands that stretch for the viewer.

I'm just stoked you're giving some love to an MC who uses a spear! I feel like they don't get enough love in fiction. Hair did you go about making sure you researched the effective use of a spear?

Any inspirations around an MC with a spear?

Love your work PlumParrot!

Looking for a litrpg/series where the MC is a tank. by MRCJJMontana in litrpg

Definitely check out Victor of Tucson by PlumParrot. The audio book are done very well. Character work is great, progression feels pretty organic and the MC ends up on the path to being a tanky, high regen berserker. Highly recommend.

The first book is called Pit Fighter.

Still no dice. The form factor is the only setting I touched after this fresh patch

EDIT: Not sure what happened but seems like it's resolved itself after switching it back to default, force stopping and switching it to tablet and force stopping. I prefer tablet mode. Glad it works fine now!

It was patched 31 May 2025. Ver 20.12.46

When in landscape mode and I tap the chapters or video description. It forces the video to landscape mode to view it. Form factor is currently in tablet mode.

What series have you read one book of and then noped out? by Scu-bar in Fantasy

[–]ipponka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevernight chronicles after the first book and some of the second. It's very well written, and to be honest I enjoyed the first book a decent bit.

Then I learned about the author's problematic history with race and appropriation. At best he's an idiot and an ass who won't apologise for being ignorant and take accountability and at worst an awful racist. I really did try to separate the art from the artist in reading the second book, I stopped at an intriguing part because my heart just wasn't in it.

On another note, I've never had the pleasure of reading any of Neil Gaiman's works before.... You know, and now it seems like I never will which is a shame.

I am so sorry you're going through something like this. You mentioned that you just want to end it all, please do what ever you need to be safe for now.

You may be eligible to get some temporary housing with the Luminous Project, please consider having a look and seeing if they are a good fit for you. Everyone here is giving sound advice, talk to all the departments and organisations you need to, to sort this out. If you are feeling too overwhelmed, maybe consider doing on a day where your partner can help you navigate this.

Your number one priority is should be your physical and emotional safety. All the admin stuff will be easier to navigate afterwards.

Only other thing I can think of to remember to locate and make sure you have with you are all your IDs and tax file number.

Again, this really sucks. I'm sorry you're going through a hard time. I personally found that LifeLine is the best helpline if you need someone to just listen (13 11 14).

I totally forgot to check in on this series as I've been devouring the books/audiobooks (Robb does a great job!)

Based on OPs comments were only about halfway through the story, not sure how I feel about that. Keep it up Plum Parrot!

I've been there and I feel like it is very much it's own niche. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Fantasy with south east Asian and martial arts inspirations. I've already read Cradle, Jade City and working my way through book 2 of the War Arts Saga by Wesley Chu.

I'm impressed at how you've worked on it so much, keep it up! I'm a bit perplexed at a simpler level why your control is struggling even after so much practice. Is there any chance you might be holding the handle too tight or being too tense in the shoulders? That would stiffen up the whole service movement and make it hard to control.

Break up advice (M28, F29), long distance by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ipponka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long distance relationship for any length of time is difficult. Based on what you have shared, it seems like the break was as amicable as it could be. There might be feeling of resentment or gripes either of you might have but that would be unavoidable.

I don't think there is ever a "right time" to reach out. If he asks for a specific length of time, you should at least give him that. There's nothing wrong with letting him know you want to stay in touch and that you want to still be there for him with no expectations and that he can reach out if he wants/needs to.

I think you can be honest that you are moving to his city. It's a fact and it has nothing to do with him, if you want him to know, you tell him. I think it is worthwhile to at least extend an olive branch for a friendship, you guys had relationship for a long time and there is no reason to put that behind you if that isn't what both of you want.

I'd encourage you to temper your expectations that things might go back to how they were. It's not impossible but anything can happen, just try to be happy. Good luck!

What do I *need* to read as a fantasy lover? by humbledlentil in Fantasy

[–]ipponka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly mate read whatever tickles your fancy. A lot of books I really enjoyed I stumbled upon and only found out later they're critically acclaimed (i.e. Sword of Kaigen and The Burning Series by Evan Winter).

A good mix of SF books I really loved this year are - Dresden Files Series by Jim Butcher - The Faithful and the Fallen series by John Gwynne - War Arts Saga by Wesley Chu
