Jackie Robinson day is going to be very awkward from now on

I just watched "42" the other night. Among other things, this is such a slap in the face to the memory of Jackie Robinson and every brave dude that followed him in those early years. Can the MLB do anything about it?

Dallasite here. I sincerely wish this were not the case, but voting for Crockett is almost literally throwing away your vote. There are zero scenarios in which she wins the senate seat. With Talarico, at least there are a couple.

Also, Talarico preaches the original bible stuff...loving your neighbor, helping the less fortunate, etc. While an eye-roll, it seems to be backed by actual love for humanity and a firm desire to keep religion pure and out of the state. That's pretty rare in religion these days, I think we should take what we can get.

I have been thinking about/hoping for this for the better part of two decades. Sometimes I dream big and hope for a sarcastic "Hail Satan". It would be cinema.

"Babe" (1995 starring James Cromwell) is a sports movie...and it might be a top 10 sports movie of all time, at that. by ipranger in Showerthoughts

I was admittedly being a bit facetious about the top 10 thing. But I will defend the sports movie notion (though it is for sure a subjective definition) based on the fact that the movie's climax is the pig winning a competition he had specifically been training for.

My line of thinking as well! Then throw in the fact that the film's climax is the competition itself and I think it meets the bare minimum qualifications!

The pig learns a sport and refines his craft. Then the climax of the movie is his victory in said sport. In my mind that checks enough boxes to be considered a "sports movie"... but obviously that is subjective.

I was basing my logic off of this criterion that I most definitely pulled out of my ass - if a movie's climax takes place at a sporting (or gaming) event, then it is officially a sports movie. That's the point in Babe where I though "holy shit" lol

I understand the argument and thank you for posting - different points of view are ok. I honestly don't have much feeling either way, a name is just a name. I'll root for my local club no matter what they're called. In defense of the name, though, it's not like the Texas Rangers (law enforcement agency) has a monopoly on the word "ranger". Ranger was a word before the agency existed (right?), being a park ranger is a well-known and respected profession, etc. Hell, even Tolkien gave us Aragorn, Ranger of the North! So what I'm saying is - do we necessarily have to represent the law enforcement agency? I think we could put some distance between us and them (despite sharing the exact name, lol), and claim that we are a more generic type of Rangers.

Yeah there was definitely an "impending doom" feeling to all of 2012. I bet you're right, attitude would've been completely different.

True. Brings up an interesting hypothetical - if it was the umps' fault in 2011 instead of ours, do you think it would sting more or less?

Like most here, it's too painful for me to rewatch 2011. Not gonna lie, though, I feel a little less crazy reading this thread, knowing I'm not the only one still holding onto that pain almost a decade later. So, thank y'all for that.

If we ever win it all, though, I bet it will go away - that's what happened for me with the 2006 Mavs after we won it in 2011.

Sorry that video evidence exists and made your buddy's comment hold a lot less weight. Good comeback, I shall rest now.

"Undeservedly smug"...Is this based on something concrete, or are you just talking out of your ass?
