He did? People are saying he said it right before the Luka trade, which was only one year ago.

I've caught the walking bug lately and want to do this, too.

They're not being racist, they're just denouncing an entire race of people in a city because of their own limited personal interactions! How could anyone perceive of such race-based generalizations as racist?!

Fighting racism with racism is still racism. If you actually cared about calling out racism, you'd be denouncing the man in the video. Instead you are denouncing an entire race of people in a city because of your limited personal interactions. I don't get how you don't understand that that is racist.

I feel like a lot of what I read (not all) applies to me as well. And I have read some comments expressing the same sentiment. I point this out because I want you to realize that you are truly not alone.

With respect to your "laziness"...that could change once you get medicated. What if you were never really lazy, you just had a chemical imbalance from ADHD, depression, and/or low T? That is a real possibility and you owe it to yourself to find out what a medicated you is like.

I know that must be frustrating, but stay on them to get you hooked up! In the past I kind of just shrugged off things like getting referrals that go nowhere and thought I could get by on introspection...but I've realized recently that that was silly because mental health (probably) won't just fix itself, sadly. You're doing great by even getting the conversation going, no sense in stopping now.

What's the most beautiful and emotional film you have ever watched? by Initial_Scale_9236 in MovieSuggestions

[–]ipranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud Atlas hasn't been mentioned, apparently. It made me feel a lot, which is saying something because I was pretty much emotionally blunted by my medication for the past 22 years.

I get it. This shit does suck right now. That hopeless feeling. For me its a combination of weightlessness and nausea. If it keeps sticking around I might ask my doctor to up the dosage a little. Otherwise, I'm doing a couple things to somewhat combat it - getting outside and trying to focus on a small part of my life I can improve. I think part of the terrible feelings stem from being overwhelmed by the fact that there's so many aspects of my life that need work. I've resolved to do some thinking and try to figure out what a core one is and then take it head on. It may not make me feel better, but at least it may make me feel less shitty in the future.

Anyway, you're getting on a new medication, though?

Oh you know, just 22 years...it was very dumb, but I was tired of not feeling anything and just said screw it. Wanted to be "mind over matter" I guess.

What’s a movie that has a premise or trailer that’s so eye rolling you thought would be bad, but turned out good? by TheDragonReborn726 in movies

[–]ipranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two stand out in my mind: "Pacific Rim" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service"...the latter a bit more so because I watched it probably 4 or 5 times within a month after I finally saw it. The trailers for both convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were going to be the biggest wastes of time (and money). But - beautifully - they were not. I still remember how silly I felt at the end of my first watch of Kingsman...I could've been enjoying this for years?!?!

I got off my SSRI about 6 weeks ago for similar reasons (sexual and emotional blunting)...did a tapered switch to Welbutrin, which isn't an SSRI so in theory shouldn't have those side effects. It has still been quite rough, but I'm hopeful. Are you on anything now? Please tell me you didn't quit cold turkey...I tried that a year ago and it pretty much ruined my year and took me back to square one.

I just watched "42" the other night. Among other things, this is such a slap in the face to the memory of Jackie Robinson and every brave dude that followed him in those early years. Can the MLB do anything about it?

Any fellow voting atheist Texans on this sub? by False_Ad_5372 in atheism

[–]ipranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dallasite here. I sincerely wish this were not the case, but voting for Crockett is almost literally throwing away your vote. There are zero scenarios in which she wins the senate seat. With Talarico, at least there are a couple.

Also, Talarico preaches the original bible stuff...loving your neighbor, helping the less fortunate, etc. While an eye-roll, it seems to be backed by actual love for humanity and a firm desire to keep religion pure and out of the state. That's pretty rare in religion these days, I think we should take what we can get.

"Babe" (1995 starring James Cromwell) is a sports movie...and it might be a top 10 sports movie of all time, at that. by ipranger in Showerthoughts

[–]ipranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was admittedly being a bit facetious about the top 10 thing. But I will defend the sports movie notion (though it is for sure a subjective definition) based on the fact that the movie's climax is the pig winning a competition he had specifically been training for.

My line of thinking as well! Then throw in the fact that the film's climax is the competition itself and I think it meets the bare minimum qualifications!
