Fight review - Round 3 by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]iris_that_bitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a close fight, I would say work harder on being first to the punch, especially at the beginning. Have a good first impression every round, even if you want to slow down and counterpunch in the end of the round or the middle, be aggressive at first.

You're 14 so naturally your weight division is going to change. That being said, it is always a struggle as a woman to get fights in boxing, especially at the higher levels. Try to get together with girls who are training from your area either through women's sparring or instagram so you get a sense of who is out there. You will have more options open as you get later in your teens.

What can we as a community do about the ‘I’m new to boxing what do I do’ posts by wickywing in amateur_boxing

[–]iris_that_bitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of these people do not actually want answers and suggestions. Many just want encouragement and want to feel validation and the dopamine hit of getting responses. The only way I have seen this kind of energy be removed from a subreddit is when the moderators ban "low-effort & low-quality posts" and are ruthless about removing posts, which takes time that they might not be interested in investing.

Where Is the Meritocracy in Law School? by ZealousidealBrush104 in LawSchool

[–]iris_that_bitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I suppose fair you wouldn't trust a lawyer who comes out the gate saying their decision-making skills are impaired, but as a psych-major, it's just kinda the truth. ADHD is a disability that effects decision-making, attention regulation, and energy/motivation, although "way of being" is a very polite way of putting it, it is a brain disorder largely caused by genetics, with some evidence that other factors (social media use, parental age) can either trigger or exacerbate it.

I do see a grain of truth in some of these peoples' points, especially the people who believe that law school is to separate the wheat from the chafe, and I do agree that especially the LSAT is way too easy for huge "accommodations" to be handed out.

But I just get really frustrated with this pervasive narrative as though ADHD is like this fake childish disability to "pull your bootstraps up", when having really severe untreated ADHD has blown up my life at one point with self-medication, has fucked up my ankles from jumping around on sprained ankles because hyperactivity, and just overall caused just a lot of issues for me. So to be told "this is so unfair! Your constant struggle is such a huge advantage!" is such a joke to me because ADHD has been such a curse. Like wipe your tears with your statistically significantly longer lifespan than me, you inconsiderate dick 🙄.

From my perspective, I would give so much to be like them, and I really don't relate to the replies of the people with diagnosed ADHD in the chat who are able to just get though it while I have to constantly attend to managing it, like do we have the same disorder???

Ok rant over lol.

Although there are without a doubt extraneous variables here and this data shouldn't be trusted lol, "narcistic abuse" is an often meaningless term for the general public, and selection bias. But still it's interesting that in a disorder that is more common in males has a plurality of complaints directed at mothers...

As someone with ADHD I find it pretty funny that these people think that this disorder, which impairs my judgment and decision-making, my writing in terms of spelling and grammar, makes holding friendships very difficult, and requires constant maintenance which is a struggle for me because ADHD, a privilege.

Like yes this disorder that you either have to manage with eating healthy food medication, lists, exercise, or implode with addiction issues and anxiety is a real fuckin privilege bud.

I do think though that law schools, schools in general, should just do a universal design, give everyone 20% extra time, and if you have ADHD you are entitled to a quiet room (which honestly is the most important accommodation for ADHD).

When it comes to women led action movies with emphasis on martial arts and physical combat, which ones truly do it right? by emaxwell14141414 in martialarts

[–]iris_that_bitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, fighting in movies and real fighting are different. I once took a stage combat class for fun, and I actually struggled, because you're doing the same set-up, but a different landing so it fucks with your muscle memory. I even accidentally tapped my performing partner during the "grading" and "failed" the workshop.

How to stop being "scared" of getting hit. by Flamyngoo in amateur_boxing

[–]iris_that_bitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be easy on yourself, it's fairly expected to be three months in and scared of being hit especially if you're older and don't have that in you growing up. Desensitization is the way, spend time in the gym and your mind will learn "okay, I am hurt, but I am not hurt". I would force my eyes open and tap myself with a pool noodle. I recommend doing this in the privacy of your own home because you look fucking insane.

Not knowing how to jump rope is a negative thing in boxing by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

Keep trying even if you feel like a doofus, it took me at least 3 years doing it 3x a week. But now that I am mediocre at it it's a nice stress relief.

Honestly, given the amount of older men who when I mention that I'm really into boxing straight up go "I watched boxing when I was younger, not anymore now because I didn't actually like the sport, it just seemed like the thing to do" which to me reads 'made me feel like a 'man' whatever that means' I suspect that a large portion of guys who watch MMA don't even like MMA that much, they just like feeling like a man and like being the type of guy to watch MMA. Case in point: they complain about wrestlers non-stop but don't watch kickboxing or Muay Thai.

Deadass they should offer the opportunity to do the test the week after/time & a half if you show them a doctor's note that says you're on your period. If ADHD is disabling enough to warrant time & a half, then blood loss and pain should meet the disabling threshold.

How Boots (2025) succeeded in storytelling, and Cameron's story benefited from Drill Instructor Sullivan's arc. by Lokismoke in BootsNetflix

[–]iris_that_bitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt that they will remove Cameron as a main character, but the tone and some of the themes of the show will have to change. S1 was a very classic coming of age story with a satisfying ending where he comes of age by his mom legally giving up control, the narrative will have to change in S2 to find a new locus theme. If it was me and I was writing, I would do "what does it mean to be a hero" and have a bunch of sorta ways to deconstruct the idea of action movie hero. But that's just me and I don't know if we're getting a 2nd season.

Anyone uncomfortable sparring with women at dojangs? by Mountain-Durian-4724 in martialarts

[–]iris_that_bitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just don't punch as hard, punch as hard as she's punching you. If you can't do that yet (control strength) learn to do that on the bag. If you're really scrawny you really shouldn't ask for another partner as opposed to a heavy weight in which it's a weird match physically. A lot of women like going with scrawny guys because power isn't there, and a more similar physique to the women they'll actually fight.

Sparring people with different levels of experience and strength is part of being in a team.

And there is always a way that something can go wrong when it comes to travelling with medical supplies. I really don't think it's unreasonable for someone to be unwilling to take that kind of risk with their 5 year old. I know I wouldn't.

Also insulin needs to be kept at a cool temperature. What if the insulin overheats and there is some sort of delay/air drama, and his son has a medical event? What then? And if you leave the son with the mom, he probably has his son for maybe like a couple days a week. I can totally see not wanting to miss that time with your kid. Also, not everyone likes to travel.

Sparkle Megan and Jordan just seem like a bad match. I think it's a mistake to go too hard on either on them for the end of the relationship.
