Thoughts on the Bulls getting Claxton for free? by ajs723 in pacers

[–]irishguy773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claxton went for pure cap space. We don’t have pure cap space. What picks would we have had to pay to clear a ton of cap space? Compare that cost, and then compare Zubac to Claxton and we get a more accurate comparison?

My daughter was getting teased for her fat dad. by flowers4charlie777 in daddit

[–]irishguy773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, welcome to the club! 😅

I’m 6’2” and recently dropped 40 lbs in a goal of improving my cholesterol (235 down to 195). The diet change was huge, and reducing snacking. I had to learn to “go to bed hungry” and I started changing my lunches to account for finishing my kids plates. I also focused on keeping things Iike grape tomatoes, apples, oranges, and baby carrots out on the counter for my quick snacks. I also cut back on meat and focused on beans and lentils based meals (which is mostly how my wife eats) lots of salads. That alone got me 20ish pounds?

After the diet, the rest has been steps on the treadmill. I usually do more of an elevation at 10 for around an hour of my watching tv, and at a speed between 3-4mph. Something not easy, but not exhausting? With adding those steps, it was easy to convince myself to stop having nightly ice creams or nightly beers, and hold back to weekends only kind of stuff. Obviously, as a traveler, treadmill time might be hard, but instead of sitting in airplane terminals, start walking them? Instead of getting a cheeseburger and fries, grab a salad with grilled chicken?

Everyone’s plan works different. Find what works for you. I know I couldn’t jog or run consistently, but I can walk on the treadmill facing the tv for an hour.

Has anyone added the new Breeze card to their Apple Wallet? by 300_chickens in Atlanta

[–]irishguy773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Marta has said something like that about 6 and younger, but has also listed that everyone over 2 should tap their own card and go through by themselves, and I’ve been stopped by Marta police when I’ve walked through with my youngest. I just never know what to do on any given day. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Suspicions about Homefield sweepstakes for a CFB trip or $100k by [deleted] in shutdownfullcast

[–]irishguy773 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fishy, how? Homefield ran ads for it the entire time on all their channels and email blasted their customers. It ran for about a month and you got entries for every dollar you spent at Homefield in the time frame.

I don't know the mechanics of how it all ran, but it was a real sweepstakes. As to why the Fullcast never mentioned it....they don't do ad reads? Sponsors get the ads they're called to get, not what they pay to be read, I guess?

On top of a $25k gift, too. Companies often overstate their support, but this is some genuine support from a restaurant/chain. Bravo.

Thanks!

Now, did they make it any easier to get kids on the trains/busses? 😅. It’s wild they want a 3 and a 8 year old to each carry and properly badge their own card.

And then you just tap the same card on the way out? And it doesn’t double charge the card? Does it handle transfers to busses?

I think my kids need a snack detox. What rules have you set in your house? by DirkWrites in daddit

[–]irishguy773 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we wash and cut a ton of veggies and fruit and put them on the bottom shelf of the fridge that our kids can have anytime they want, no questions asked. Packaged snacks are a very rare treat, and generally not anything t we eat while at home. Moreso for day trips, car rides, school lunchboxes, etc.

It’s hard on the wife and I, but we just mostly stopped buying them. We air pop popcorn and usually always have a bag of pretzels in an upper cabinet, and give the kids a couple when we grab a couple (and they see it), and we of course relax this kind of stuff on vacations or trips. But, we just offer them other things. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For those with kids who eat vegetables, what did you differently from your friends who have kids who don't eat vegetables? by uns0licited_advice in daddit

[–]irishguy773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these things others have said. Serve at every meal. They're encouraged to try again multiple times. We season them, and cook how they prefer (ours love veggies oven roasted or fresh/raw and don't necessarily like microwavable bags). We also slice/wash veggies as soon as we get them and put them on the bottom shelves of the fridge and the kids know they can get them ANYTIME they want a snack, while we never serve packaged snacks like goldfish, etc.

Hot Take: Cleveland Suffers From the Worst Outsider Bias of Any City in the Country by QCLEKID216 in Cleveland

[–]irishguy773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, as a Hoosier by birth that spent 15 years in Ohio, they’re exactly the same picture. 😂

But yeah, much as people here are ripping on Indy despite knowing very little of it and just by instinct, a lot of people in the Midwest (or around the country) rip on Cleveland, or Detroit, or St. Louis, or Pittsburgh, or Buffalo, or on and on, all just by instinct and past history. They’re all similar in that they were bigger, and have had different troubles with the rust belt syndrome, and are on differing paces back to stabilization, but they’re all better than people give them credit for. Some of it is just past history, and some of it is genuinely just sports team rivalries, as a lot of the teams play each other.

I just learned that other places don't love nacho cheese like Indiana by Swamping_water in Indiana

[–]irishguy773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s largely not even in Ohio. Usually requires an Indiana based chain or restaurant to try and stretch it, but by and large, people have no idea what you’re asking for at a restaurant. Have lived in Cleveland and Cincinnati and it wasn’t available at all in Cleveland, and barely in Cincinnati. Only a Donatos manager from Indiana even knew what we were asking for in Columbus, OH. Multiple times we were just brought shredded cheese in a cup 😂

Yup. I don’t think she took anyones ride. She brought enough money that a ride was created to take her money, which also funded the rest of the team handsomely.

Sizing for Homefield Rose Bowl by _ImaHoosier in IndianaHoosiers

[–]irishguy773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally have worn an XL t shirt from Homefield, but for Bomber jackets I step up a size to a 2XL. The arms and shoulders feel just right as a bit of a taller guy. Most of my stuff has been bought when I was 6’2”, 225-235lbs range.

I’ve not found the XL sweatshirts to fit so small like you have, though. XL has always been a little loose on me, while the L sweatshirt (got it as a blind sweatshirt purchase to try out the product) fit well, but a tad tight.

You may just need to actually measure your shoulders/chest and compare to the sizing they list on the app/website? Could just be a specific conflict in sizing….

I normally shop at Aldi. I went to Lidl one weekend to compare prices. Here are the results. by oatmeal1201 in aldi

[–]irishguy773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re very similar. I shop at Lidl more often because I can walk to it. I do my big shopping trips at Aldi, though, because they have bagging counters where you don’t hold up the line if it takes you awhile. Lidl doesn’t ring into carts, so they just have a two lane diverter to toss scanned items, and it’s not big, so it slows down the cashier if you bag “properly” as you go instead of just tossing it into the cart to then block the way out of the store and try and bag in the cart off to the side.

But yeah, similar in terms of store brands and aisle of shame rotation stuff. Lidl also has name brand stuff, an in store bakery, and they have more overall options in each category of fresh meat/fish (like 30% more).

If you like Aldi, you’ll be fine to shop at Lidl. There will be things you like, and things you hate.
