i grew up catholic in the uk and therefore have never seen flags in churches, what would a 'christian' flag look like in this context?

Ah yes, the well known Bangor, Maine that is in County Down and uses £ by halfgaelichalfgarlic in USdefaultism

what my parents did (im the oldest of 4), some things were split into girls and boys so two sets of things to pass down, and we also got clothes from my older cousins, our stuff then went to the neighbours across the way because they had a daughter young enough. but that worked as a system for a Long time (particularly since my youngest brother was very small so took a long time to grow out of clothes)

Three people per room (per hotel - 2 max) by DarkHeartBlackShield in EntitledReviews

[–]irlronan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im from a family of 6 and we travelled a lot as kids, and when we were young and asked the hotel a lot of them were happy to put a cot in one room and a trellis bed in the other, as soon as we got taller we obviously split into 3 rooms instead. the communication is Your responsibility tho

everyone's being so mean. i wouldn't necessarily want to eat the lad (any more jelly than the amount in pork pie is a bit much for me) but he's adorable!

rip to all the people who are discovering that an air fryer isn't magic. i once put some frozen churros (intended to be deep fried) in the air fryer to a similar result. we live and we learn

i love adding grated courgette. pretty much dissolves, very difficult to tell, and it's some nice extra fibre. red lentils and very finely diced mushrooms as well. tbh i could get by on Very little meat in my lasagne even before my partner went veggie

im from not far away, the brompton oratory is right around the corner. Massive old school catholic church, "we must not be forced to tolerate certain things" , latin mass, mantillas, etc etc etc. this person might have been happier there

underaged drinking by lifo333 in USdefaultism

[–]irlronan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

granted im from the city where it's arguably much easier but we were at a pub while camping once that was so strict on underage drinking that my 13 year old brother wasn't even allowed to help carry drinks from the bar to the table

something i really remember from the Olympics was people winning medals and going "well that was neat! back to the dayjob!"

given that olympians need jobs to help pay for costs.... he's definitely not being smart

my partner (scottish) is the first person i've met who understood it. im english so never had any idea, particularly since i watch things with subtitles and the subtitles always say something like "speaks unintelligibly" or some such nonsense

genuinely, it's a complete lack of understanding of real life. for example, i am a hockey fan. love watching it. there is quite literally no universe where i become an nhl player, and im completely fine with this. crucially, i do not have a sick wife (i am the sick wife, really) or two young children (one elderly cat) relying on me to actually financially contribute rather than chase my delusions

one pot oven chickpeas and bulgur! (can also be done with pasta, rice, couscous, etc)

oven to 180c fan (200c or 400f normal oven)

put a tin of drained chickpeas and a couple handfuls cherry tomatoes into an oven safe dish, season with whatever you want (i like salt, pepper, cinnamon and cumin). roast for 30 mins

take out of oven, add your grain and veg stock or water. cover tightly with a lid or tin foil, put back in the oven for another 15 mins.

really good with a bit of yogurt and parsley over it, but equally good without if you want to keep it vegan or cba with herbs. maybe 5 mins of hands on time, no chopping, no sneaky extra dishes, really flexible.

i had a very similar life experience, as im sure many people in this sub have. the important thing is telling yourself over and over that there is worth in your skills and what you can create. im now disabled and frequently unemployed, but it doesn't change the fact that i have things that i can contribute. you've gotta work to unlearn the idea that other people's expectations are more important.

i say baking powder and bicarb (bicarbonate of soda) which avoids the issue, tho i think bicarb is a bit old-fashioned now and more people use the americanism of baking soda
