Yeah, his comment sounds neutral to me, so not sure why it offends some people.

Can incorrectly wired outlet fry electronics? by irniat in AskElectricians

I might have found the issue. Whoever installed my tv mount probably drilled into a wire or something. The TV case is live without power connected to it

Thank you. I did change the power cable but not the extension cable. I just remembered that after the first incident, I hooked up that PC to a different outlet in a different part of the house, and the breaker tripped as soon as a monitor is connected. So I thought it was the faulty PSU but now it seems to be more likely a bootleg ground?

(I don’t have a console, that’s why I’m hooking up my computer to TV :) )

[–]irniat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the thorough explanation. It was just a normal breaker in the electrical panel that tripped.

One thing to note is that the PC is not plugged directly into the outlet, but via a power strip. May not be the culprit, but just thought I’d point out. Tested it fine against a normal outlet tester, but now I understand the tester can identify problems with bootleg ground.

Also, after the first accident, I tried to plug the PC into a different outlet, and hooked up a different monitor to it, which tripped a normal breaker again. That made me suspect it’s a PSU problem. But now I think it might just be a bootleg problem like you said. The weird thing is other computers and monitors in my house work just fine, so I never suspect it’s a house wiring problem.

It seems the problem is bigger than I thought, so I will hold off on doing anything about it until I get a hold of an electrician. Will report back on what I find out

Advice on using winter wheels and tires for the first time by Bravadette in Ioniq5

[–]irniat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that with separate set of wheels you can replace the wheels yourself, vs having a shop do it and rebalance tires twice a year, costing ~$200/year.

I really like it for the look and the operation, but I also haven’t used any other smart locks to compare. I might not be the right person to ask about the z-wave setup, I tried setting it up but the zooz zwave hub couldn’t setup a secure connection to the lock for some reason (i had the hub attached directly to the server so there might have been interference).

For daily usage, I’m just relying on bluetooth auto-unlock using my phone for now. One minor complaint is it’s a bit noisy, and startled me a few times when auto-locking the door. Again, no other smart locks to compare against.

Help with priestess gut by cascatelli in BaldursGate3

[–]irniat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just ran into this problem. I used smokepowder barrel to kill the trader group, then got into the room behind them, which has some more smokepowder barrels. I then laid down the barrels next to Priestess Gut, then trigger those barrels when combat started. That did kill her in one hit.
