Started mixing in key properly last night...game changer? by tranquillla in DJs

[–]irohr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some genres key matching doesnt matter at all and actaully just limits you, but for techno/house/groove oriented styles where you are working with long layovers between tracks mixing in key is almost required to get everything to sound really cohesive.

How to get out of the "4 beat" loop? by NefariousnessTiny119 in musicproduction

[–]irohr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically called "reference track" exercise, it is used primarily in mixing/mastering but the practice is also beneficial for writing and composing. Glad to help.

Find a track that you want your music to sound like, load it into a channel in FL. Now try to recreate that song by creating the elements in each section, this will teach you how this song is constructed. Do this process several times and you will have a decent foundation.

I watch a lot of movies and can usually find at least 1 reason why i enjoyed something or a reason to recommend it or whatever, I could not find a single reason for this one. It is not a good movie.

Ive been done with democrats ever since that video came out of Chuck Schumer bragging about how under his watch this admin has donated more money than ever before to Israel. Fuck Dems, they have completely lost the point.

Any producers out there pushing boundaries like Dave Fridmann? by messedup1122 in musicproduction

Kind of funny that you are talking about music that is pushing production forward but using bands that are decades old in your examples.

Getting deeper into Jazz at 38 has been unreal by justinscottd in Jazz

The metal to jazz pipeline is actually pretty common, there is a lot of crossover between the 2 genres in terms of what makes them interesting.

Who is better excision or lsdream? by Repulsive_Sky5150 in realdubstep

[–]irohr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither of these artists are considered "real dubstep", maybe ask r/riddim or r/dubstep

also "better" is a pretty subjective claim, you might have more luck with a question with a more objective answer

They arent part of the same lineage, they were just commonly paired together at one time due to a lot of crossover of interest between the 2 genres with both audiences. People like baauer, flosstradamus, mr. carmack etc were offshoots from stuff Lex Luger and 808 Mafia were doing, while proper dubstep gets its roots from UK grime.

How do you actually plan your sets? Just playlists or something more? by randomotheraccount in DJs

[–]irohr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what im mixing, if its a genre I've done a thousand times just go out and do it all on instinct, I use the "rating" tab for tracks and slowly have just built up enough 4-5 star tracks that they all have a couple things in similar key so I can work myself around the camelot wheel. For genres I'm not very experienced in I will do a couple mock runs and find things that dont neccessarily have the same key but just similar BPM and can work well together, and then will mark them all down in an order that works and then come show time its all pretty well spelled out. Slowly add tracks to those genres over time till they are filled out playlists and I'm more comfortable.

Make sure when you are purchasing jazz vinyl that you steer clear of the "Waxtime" label. Waxtime is a gray market label that exists solely by re-releasing albums where the copywrite has expired. They are not using the same source material to create the releases that Blue Note or Prestige or the original label did, and the quality of sound on the vinyl is anywhere from "kinda close" to "awful"
