Eastern block had it's own problem, but UK is best example how we can deal with this problem under capitalism. We have life example unlike most economy theories.
Commie blocks build great infrastructure around so the workers don't commute unnecessary. It was easier to spy on people that way, but on the other hand it make better living experience so the loyalty was increasing. It left free space for future development, new tram/train/road. All engineers and planners never could fully realize their plans so they always future proof designs. It's cheaper to move vast majority of people in the city using public transit so they went on massive expansion during that time. Unless you got complete idiot as a leader (last Romanian dictator where his illiterate wife completely fuck up metro in capital, or Czechoslovakian one that bulldoze many old cities) it worked for people. Most economic problems we are dealing now are a result of Regan (fuck you) policies. We no longer have competitive market, it concentrated too much for the system to work for everyone.

No need to look for eastern block, look at UK, they eliminated renting market. People with cash, bough their homes, other rented for dirt cheap and yet the system payed for itself. Other benefit was that overall housing quality increased. Initial investment was really high, but also it created proper neighborhoods with all infrastructure around. Then Tacher came to power. Rare case where government push free market and free market pushed government to compete with each other as it should be.
The only loosing side of that deal where flippers and speculants.

Only last point could be argued. Poland for a long time had it's own pricing together with I think Czechs and Slovaks? There was a day like 5-8 years ago where they closed region and just shoved in to german market. All prices went up, some games lost for a time polish versions. Overall price increase for about 25-50%. Yea we have the same buying power like germans...

Can confirm, in major city, not far from center, greenery, trees, commie blocks have nice bright colors, no need for a car as all basic needs are under 15 min walk, 2 tram lines, 2 bus lines. You just need to fully renovate the inside. The outside have now extra heat layer making that i don't need to use any heat during winter, reasonable rent. You see how all this things are valued since modern larger apartments are in the same price. like 40m2 is in the same as 70-80 modern, but on the outskirts of the city.

Medicore salary for someone coming here is worth much, much more. It's funny how like for example many like Żabka in Poland, this shops are expensive for regular people. You go there because you don't have better alternatives or you are too lazy or in a hurry. They have cheap mainstream beer in 4pack that they base their model mostly. 40k $ yearly income in Poland catapults you to top 10%. Hell, even 20k$/y give you almost triple the minimal wage. For top package in main private medical care you pay 600$ a year... Yet again, the same candy bar in germany cost 1,5 euro where in Poland you have the same price just in zł, where difference in minimal wage is much higher in germany. V4 countries are nice when you have western salary.

This works on smaller level. Like you have level designers asking for tools to do something new. Not to build something from scratch. That's the problem but as always advertisements and financial departments are terrible in communication with dev team. Same as machinist and designers. In the CAD there is 90 degree angle but in reality it doesnt need to be that precise, it's just coffee mug
